Has swg changed enough to make it worth coming back?

Left after a year and a half..few months before the CU came in.... is it any better now or is SOE still flogging a dead donkey for all its worth?

It depends which patch.
I think it's worth the purchase with the Total Experience and all expansions. On the other hand, they are still trying to pull crap that is actually ruining their own game. Space Expansion is great, but the content is horrible and so are the missions. New things with CH make it great, then they nerf experience. Same goes for other professions.
Really, with only one or 2 professions addressed, they ended up this patch doing more to wreck the game than actually fix what's broken. It can be annoying but you know the routine.

Same old SOE then...so whats the grace period on characters being perma deleted now?
Oh and i hope this doesn't lower your opinion of me...but jedi?
jedi??? hehehe The single worst mistake in developer history. So many in Theed, when I came back, you could walk from the Starport to the cantinaand see 30 or more.
I think the grace period is around 6 months now. But could be wrong. I read somewhere that was it but with SOE and their love of lies who knows anymore.

THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO JOIN.
I have saved 2 pages of the general forums. Every single post on those pages are complaints from JUST TODAY. And so is most of the third. If you like I can take screenshots for you (it will be multiple ones as the pages are quite long, youll also see alot of the threads are multiple pages of complaints).
Please, do not waste your money. I did, and I regret it. I am not the only one who feels this way.
Today is a bad day for SWG. The DEVS got it into their head to nerf group experience. I even left. In fact I cancelled my SOE All Access Pass today. And no, it's not because I'm mad about not getting to Jedi or anything. I already have plenty of xp banked I just really think this is a wrong direction to go with the game. I'm making my voice known to SOE in the only way that really matters.
If anyone here plays EVE be on the lookout for a ticked off captain floating around in space trying to re-learn everything he's forgotten since his last free trial

If you are not into mad XP grinding but enjoy questing ... get The Total Experience box or do the digital download of The Rage of the Wokiees expansion ... and you will have AT LEAST one month of fun gaming.
Tons of quests on Kashyyyk , many of them multi-part, multi-planet, ground-space mix with nice rewards.
On other planets : Dont forget to do the Boba Fett quest series, the Clone Relic quest series and all the missions offered by the space stations.
Do the Avatar space platform.
Do the Syren quest series (current story arc).
Get all the new special ships, usually quest rewards.

Wow Elnator, one of SWG's biggest boosters has finally seen the light. Never would I have thought this day was possible.
And to the original poster, dont buy the game, you only encourage the dev team to keep treating its users like garbage because we always come back for more. Stay away, only when they lose money and then they FIRE smedley and his cronies will SWG the game we all love have a real chance again.
There is no grace period, characters have never been deleted from SWG that I am aware of.

SWG has never purged old accounts from inactivity alone. Which is their saving grace since so many people leave and come back.
They say 3 months, but its indefinite and they also said they would announce a player purge. Of course taking SOE as an honest broker requires a huge leap of faith, a leap often having you fall on your face.
Where do they state 3 months? I have always only ever heard that as rumormill. Is there a place I can look that up on their site?

I'm not sure, I read it in the TOS when I quit about a year after initial release because i wanted to know how long i had to change my mind and subscribe again. They might have changed it since then if they determined they arent purging accounts they no longer need to warn people of it.
Because he is like the security guard. They gotta have a scape goat for their lies just in case. And they have used him just for that before.

Now I can completely agree with that. I myself have ALOT of issues with their current testing and patching practices. At the moment it actually has me considering wether I should continue to pay them while I continue to beta test for them. They seem to be getting faster at fixing their bad patches now, but its still very apparently with each patch that they are doing VERY minimal testing on them.

Sure. And if we can assume that SOE aren't complete morons, then there was a reason for the patch existing on test for 1 solid day.
And I think this is it. So the players wouldn't have a chance to argue the change until it was live.

Very observant and almost an absolute certainty. They dont listen to us anyways, at least they no longer pretend too. They dont care what we say, because they will do as they wish, and at least this way, they can send this out as a stealth nerf. As opposed to the big announced ones.
i was sad when i did it, but enough is enough......i pulled the plug. I had fun..once,.....now...well its just a bad day to be a SWG fan. SWG...R.I.P.old friend. Playing this game from the begining and seeing it fall apart and change into what it has become was horrible......it was like watching a close friend drink himself to an early grave and there was nothing i could do about it, no matter how hard i tried, how loud i shouted or how loyal i was........
Welcome to a very sad club that alot of us are in, not welcome in a good way because we wanted better but hardly alone.

The CU was good for the game.
Nerfing XP, most especially in the way they chose to do it, will kill the grouping incentives they put in with the CU.
Nobody is going to want to group with a low CL character anymore.
Nobody is going to want to group with a non-combat character anymore.
The vast majority of groups will be formed with 1 goal: The most efficient possible set-up to gain XP in the least ammt of time.
Mark my words, within a month you'll see groups excluding lowbies, far more than ever before.

I'm not going through that. This game was a casual player's paradise. No longer true.
And for me it's not about the XP, it's about what the change to XP is going to do to the game. I'm a fully templated Master Bounty Hunter with no intention of ever going Jedi but had enough FS xp banked to go Padawan in a click of a mouse if I so chose. So XP isn't my concern... at all. I've had enough XP to go padawan for the past 3 months. Last night when I checked before I quit I actually have enough to go padawan twice over.
It's not about the XP... it's about what this change is going to do to the game. It's still fun, as long as you don't need XP anymore. For those who do? It's going to suck, royally. And it isn't just going to affect Jedi... it's going to hurt new players FAR worse than Jedi.
