Hype

Lord.BachusLord.Bachus Member RarePosts: 9,686

There is no hype, only the truth excists.

This is the difference between GW2 and all those games before them. We know exactly what to expect from the game. Thats why we are enthousiasts of GW2. I have had hands on experience and what i saw was exactly what i expected to see based on the information of the Arenanet blogs. We know almost everything about the game mechanics, and how the gameplay will be different and how some parts will be typical MMO.

If you don't like MMO's in general, chances are you will not like GW2 either, because its still an MMO despite all the small and little differences.

But if you where wayting for that little change of direction needed to make your MMO experience a little fresh and a tad more actionpaced, then GW2 could be the game for you.

But there is no hype that makes people enthousiast, its the facts and the honesty of Arenanet that make people drool in their pants.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Was hoping for more of a response. The OP's monologue wasn't much for starting a discussion. Also, unless there was some vote of the GW2 zealots I'm pretty sure he meant that when he played the game it was what he expected, rather than some "we" he believes himself to be a part of.

I only drool when Im not wearing them so I have no idea.

Anyways, the OP is right on.   Good post.   Hype is generally excitment without knowing much and expected assumptions which end up being false compared to the final result.  This is not the case.  GW2 fans know what they are getting with this game.

Either be excited for that or not.  But hype isnt all that prevelant here, or may barely exist at all.

    This ^

I dunno how things got so distorted, but it's pretty aparent that many people on these forums seem to thing hype = excitement. This is not at all true. Hype is marketting / promotion of a product, often with very little evidence to back it up (ie false / boasty claims).

While there has been a bit of that, it's all been backed up with proof, kinda nipping that argument in the bud. Fans cannot 'hype' unless they are working for the company they are excited about. They can only be hyped.

Anyway, I'm sure that horse is very much dead by now. I'm not sure it's bones even resemble a horse anymore.

You've seen the final result then? Because I'm pretty sure Anet isn't even finished making it. This is the problem with all of these folks that swear they know exactly how the game is going to be- it isn't done. They are banking on nothing more than some videos and faith.

If something appears to be to good to be true it probably is. Nothing is perfect. People that believe in hype will often be dis appointed when they try the product.

This is not only true for games. But I think a lot of people that have played new MMO:s and discussed them on forums long before release should have learned this based on personal experience. Its important to be critical. Even the best product will have some flaws. And sometimes minor flaws that others think are insignificant can be a real problem for you. Because they are not you. They will not know what you like or think is important.

Truthful claims can create hype just like the false claims. Hype is a very flexible word. There is nothing wrong about hype unless it is being treated as blind-faith.

Edit: BTW, DarkPony does have a point about not knowing the content in the end levels. Personally I think what I saw is worth the money, because I like PvP of all kinds and I like the idea of no dedicated healers within that PvP. Us PvPers that have everything we want within sight (except for stress tested WvWvW PvP) will probably be cozy. However, I think PvEers should wait awhile with pre-purchasing. We still have yet to see if ArenaNet's idea of "end-game," which is something we are so used to with PvE content, will be accomplished.

I bought the game myself. I figure no matter how bad it is WvW should keep me busy for at least a month. Which will be worth the investment by me.

However after this game launches and the "shiny" wears off, there will be rage and there will be tears. Not mine obviously, unless they botch the last five minutes of the game somehow.

Thats something noboddy will know, my best guess is that for some the shiny will wear off. But for many casuall PvE players, the game will stand for years to come, and then the PvP fammily will have found a new home for many many months. And if they leave for 2 months, they can allways come back for free.
