I'm still holding fast to my prediction that the plug will be pulled in this game sometime this December. There is no way that this game doesn't hemorrhage subs to fatalistic levels once GW2 is released.
I hate people who do this on The Price is Right, but I'm going to bid 499k Drew!
Made me laugh. I'm going to say around 150,000-250,000 will be left by the end of the year. Those being die hard Star Wars fans, extremely casuals, and fanbois. I really can't see the game holding onto a lot of people.
I don't know about the analyst, but I know an astrology that says that the world may drastically change on Dec. 21, 2012...so won't make a difference how many subs SWTOR may or may not have.
The funny thing is, if they had just done a good job of cloning WoW, they'd probably be doing fine. But not only did they recycled the same old game, they put crap out there as their flagship.
This is not true. Most people who play WoW won't leave their years of commitment to start over to play another "WoW". Sure they may give it a shot, but the vast majority will realize they are just playing the same game but without all of their friends/guilds/geared up characters.
I would argue that the same thing that will scoup up WoW players is the same thing that will bring in new players: An entirely new MMO experience.
My best friend took control of the largest guild on his server when the original GM went back to WoW, and has convinced most of them to join him in GW2 when it's out lol

Guess you didn't get the memo... they found another calendar tablet, so we're good for a few thousand more years.

It's working for Rift. It's not on the same scale as TOR, but it's actually growing slowly by winning people over.
This game was just boring for me. most of the time it felt like i was playing a console RPG with some random instant messaging in the back ground. The pvp was great however, i hope future games use the same model. At any level, i had an instant Q for battlegrounds. I think i read somwhere that GW2 is using the same level adjustment concept for PVP which has me excited.. i guess we'll see. I'll be playing Free to Play games until The secret world and GW2 come out. Far too bored with WOW to go back for any reason other than MOP. I'm expecting to be bored with MOP in a couple of months...
From a gamer standpoint, honestly, who cares? Every MMO I have played was made 40k worse by getting popular. I'm not a shareholder or a developer so honestly i could give a rat's if they are sad with their numbers. I casually play the game and i enjoy it still. I don't space bar through convo's and i didn't have any preconceived notions of what i wanted it to be. I think quite a few people fell victim to that and that's too bad.
Either way my point is that i personally don't care what is the popular game or what consensus agrees is the must have game. The mainstream mmo community is horrid. There i said it and i know quite a few that agree. The first month of SWOTOR all i read was some teens lame drug experiences, arrow to the knee jokes, Chuck Norris references and posts asking what is the best x class. If that's what it means to be in the best game....keep it.
There seems to be some players that have some inferiority complex about not being in the "next big game"....i judge by whether i have fun. /shrug
All I want it to be is a MMO. It has got nothing to do with inferiority or any other complexes.
The game may not be bad and it may very well be fun to level a character or two to level 50 and listen to all the voice acting. But in the end it is not a MMO and should have been SP or B2P.
The beta testers told them so many times about the problem with TOR... they chose not to listen to us.
Reap what they sow. The game will fall.
Even if they quickly pump out some end-game, it's going to be so unpolished and uncreative because now they are just striving to keep their players.
I was in beta for a long time, I was not a weekend tester, and this is not true at all. In AoC that was true, in warhammer that was true but in SWTOR only a few people said anything negative and they said it over and over. The vast majority of testers praised it and just talked about bugs that needed fixing, but still generally praised the game. So maybe the testers were to blame as well. I just miss the orange pixel .
It's almost overwhelming to read all the lying trolls on this forum. Only as moron would jump on this article and spout idiocy such as "it's a single player game with co-op". If that's the case then so is every single theme park MMO, becuase TOR is WoW with the SW IP. The only difference is that it lacks content, but that can and is being addressed. I don't blame you if you dislike it because you are burnt out on the same old them park MMO, but for love of clarity at least use honesty when criticizing it.
If anyone was intellectually honest they would acknowledge that even hiting the one million mark or above for the first year is great for an MMO.
If content was TOR's only problem, then it wouldn't be so bad. There's nothing social or massive multi player about logging in and chilling on Fleet, waiting to raid twice a week. There's nothing that promotes player interaction on planets. There's no guild functionality. The game is far too instanced. There's nothing that promotes a huge war going on that i can actually affect an outcome of.
I can live with little content as long as the game provides reasons for players to log in every day and contribute in some way to their server. Daily's are not what i'm looking for, they're 2004 content.
I'm nothing but honest. I don't let my love for the IP cloud what i know to be wrong with a product i paid for.
Compared to the last few MMO releases that were supposed to be big it's really not that intanced. Aion, LoTRO, AoC all way more instanced. I'm not sure what your getting at with the social aspect, I come from sandbox MMOs, I'm used to having to make an effort with very few tools. It's the payer base that kills the social aspect, same thing with WoW. I think the game has a lot of flaws, It's biggest being it's another thempark clone, but it's not a single player rpg with a multiplayer option lol.
Are we talking about the same game here, where every single cave or elevator is instanced off?
By social i mean players playing together other than raids or terrible 4-man content. Being out in the worlds and doing stuff together. There's none of that. It's closer to a lobby co-op than an MMO.

SW is like WoW except the latter has:
Boatloads more polish
An open world
On PvP servers, PvP will actually occur outside of warzones
On PvP servers, there were big raids of enemy cities.
PvE that is far better scripted
NPC's with charm.
And this is from someone who doesn't like WoW. TOR is a knockoff of WoW that understands none of why the game was a success.
I agree with some of that but open world PvP is almost dead in WoW soo.. I agree whole heartedly with the NPCs in WoW. in TOR most of them unless they are giving you a quest don't even talk at all. The polish took wow years. PvE is not better scripted, this one area that ToR got right. ToR has an open world just no incentive to explore it. I go off the beaten path all the time, especially the level 30 and up planets, tons of open space.
The beta testers told them so many times about the problem with TOR... they chose not to listen to us.

More nonsense. I was also in beta for a long time and judging by general chat, people were ignoring all the flaws and saying stuff like "it'll get fixed, it's only beta". Every time i brought up an issue in chat i was immediately told to piss off by blind fans that didn't want to accept it's flaws.
The players that were in beta longer than the weekend testers were friends and family that were not doing their jobs. Sure they were looking for bugs but not many stood up and said you know what, this system in place is not working as an MMO feature. The ones that did, like myself, were shot down and told to go play WoW.
Hope these same people enjoy what they helped create.

ROFL no lobbies, its not Guild Wars. The instanced caves etc are for class quests and flashpoints etc. There are a lot but atleast on the higher level planets there is still tons of open world.
Have you played since the world event started? Tat is crazy on my server becuase of it. Loads of ganking and open world PvP, guilds running around doing the event together, masses of people socializing as they wait to get infected. It's made the game come alive. If they keep doing these world events it's gonna help the game a lot.

So you said that what I said was nonsense then went on to agree with me???
In other words what I said meant that the testers were not generally pointing out major flaws just little bugs. I disagreed though that they ignored the testers, becuase most of the testers were praising the devs work. The other games I pointed out, the majority of testers were telling the devs what was fundamentally wrong with the games and the devs made almsot 0 changes before launch, so they actually did ignore the testers.
Lack of endgame content isn't the issue alone. All the people stuck on Light and Standard load servers (especially Light) have been screaming for server mergers / free transfers since february and have not been heard!
Nothing is more frustrating than being stuck on a Ghost town!
The idea of having to reroll yet again and having to start over and leveling up yet again, going through all the same content isn't appealing to many.
Well ... i'm not among them. As altholic have 8 alts, 2 lv. 50 and bunch of close to ... and is never boring, not even leveling 8th alt. Never, exception are wow and rift, had such blast with playing any game. And particulary I love being solo friendly. Sorry.... but when i want to socialize i have many real life friends. :-)
As a person who is enjoying the game and making no plans to end his subscription in the foreseeable future, I can hardly see this analyst's speculation as bad news. 1.25 million heading into 2013? That's a plenty healthy MMO population--many people to play with, and much profit for the developer to continue creating content. Of course I'm merely talking from my own perspective as a player; I'm sure EA and BW want their sub numbers much higher, so that they move into an obscene level of profit category rather than simply a respectable level. But I'll say it again, 1.25 million is great, and moreover, if true, this to me is breaking the trend of all the previous so called failures in the MMO graveyard of years past.
To all those ever so enthusiastic naysayers, I certainly acknowledge that we still need to wait before declaring any of these speculations to be truth.
Another fan of the SWTOR confirms that the game is very nice ..single player game with nice cooperative options.
Why pay a monthly fee???
Well I got into a weekend beta. Saw by day two that this game was an RPG co op. I wont say its a horrible game, but there's a whole lot wrong with it, half of which I probably dont even know, but I saw enough.
I will say its good enough to me that if it was about 30 dollars, Id pay for the game, and play it. With no sub fee. Its good enough to garner that from me. So its not a total waste at all. Its worthy of me laying some money down and enjoying it.
But right now the sub fee is whats keeping me away from it, because its just not worthy of one.

Maybe it's because those testers didn't want yet another old school MMO or maybe they don't see certain mechanics as flaws like you do. It's pretty arrogant to say they didn't do their job, just because they didn't point out the things YOU didn't like about the game. Not every MMO has to be an experiemnt in social enslavement. You want a forced grouping, raid centric, non-scripted, non-voiced game, there's plenty out there to choose from. Move on and realize that not every game needs to meet your criteria nor cater to your wants and needs.
I just hope they don't pull a NGE and make the game into another SWG. If people don't like it , screw them. problem is people jump into the game and finish the contents too fast. Every game falls in numbers and manage to come back. But the way I see it, its the people who cry and whine who are leaving.
It's SWG all over again, whiners crying, people complaining instead of giving the game a chance and then when it gets dumb down for them they complain it's too easy. Go figure today's gamers.
There's no way in HELL BW does that, but not for the reasons you might think. They CAN'T do this because they have CONSISTENTLY demonstrated they do NOT know what they're doing with this game. The NGE, while unpopular, was a massive coding change. BW can't pull this off.
The decline in numbers is not SOLELY because of the lack of end-game content. While that *IS* a problem, most of the 1.7 million of us who bought the game and initially subscribed would have patiently waited for BW to release more and more end game stuff. However, what HAPPENED and what CONTINUES to happen is BW screwing the pooch. From not having a reliable/easy way to transfer lev50's over to the PTS, not listening to the feedback provided by the few public tester's they DO have on the PTS, continuing to arrogantly insist that they know they're game better than we do even when it is READILY apparent to anyone who reads the few exchanges between certain 'Principal Lead Whatevers' (I'm looking at you, Georg Zoeller and Gabe Amantangelo (sp?) ) that they don't even play their own game, making sweeping changes to class balances rather than tweaking here and there, and perhaps their BIGGEST failure is the 1-2 punch of their GM's/Customer Service and their Q&A department.
The lack of end game content could've been forgiven for a period had BW aced the other stuff. While I'm empathetic to the 500-1000 people at EA who might lose their jobs, one of the FIRST things BW could do to right the ship is make sure Georg's and Gabe's and perhaps James Ohlen's names are on the 'To Be Fired' list.

Sorry for your loss SWTOR.
Just to clarify since some people seem to misunderstand:
Q1 of FY(2013) begins in October of 2012. So this is a prediction less than six months away, not simply next year.
Better tell this dude, he hasn't read it yet.
