I've often had a saying of "I wish there was a sever where only people over 21 could play". I was often frustrated by the childishness of other players.
The problem was I assumed that immature people were under that age or close to it.
Once I started to get know other players more, I found many people as old as 50 acting like immature jerks inside the game.
Age is not proportional to maturity.
For what it's worth MMRPG's tend have the most mature gaming audience. The average PS2 player is about 14-16.

Geez, what MMRPG's have you been playing? MMRPG's usually seem to have alot of intellect of 10 year old, maturity of 11 year old, and uses profanity so bad that a sailor wouldnt dare repeat it.

Some people are born with a corncob up their @$$, and others are pretty cool... some like to roleplay, some just want "phat lewtz", some are female gamers, some "pretend" to be female gamers just to exploit the young boys into giving them free stuff lol.

I can't believe that people are so old. I thought that most of the people would have been 16-17ish. There 139 or so votes.. 136? anyways, it's an accurate poll. atleast theres no one under 10.
I think you will find that the age and sex ratio is a lot more mixed in more 'social' MMOG's (especially EQ). I remember a similar poll in EQ based on your demographic, not just age and it was refreshing to find that MMOG's appeal to people across all social spectrums and backgrounds i.e. plenty of married players, families, as well as the teen market.
Age is never an issue with me (except when dating - even then I try not to ask :P That was a joke before anyone takes me seriously) - it's all about attitude. I prefer a democratic system than an elitist system dictating who should and should not be playing - let the players make their own choices i.e. in MMOG's I generally group/affiliate with players with like-minded goals, attitudes and style of play. Yes, there will be the occaisonal ass-hole but that's just demographics.
Personally, I've just hit the big 30 this year - which is a psychological milestone more than anything else - but fortunately look mid twenties and unfortunately have an emotional age permanently retarded at 18 :P
I remember when I started with the 'net thang at the age or 20/21 - I was just one walking hormone with thought processes barely rising above drinking and pulling. Ok I was a little more intelligent than that but looking back, didn't display such intelligence. I find it rather refreshing that there are plenty of 'kids' (I mean that in an affectionate rather than disparaging way) playing MMOG's etc who can conduct themselves with an assured maturity, putting many so-called adults to shame.
I'm down with the kids, but not down on the kids you understand - unless they're above the age of consent and knocking on my door at 02:00am then it's hard to say 'No'. :P
Ahem.

I've read that alot of the ppl thought there would be more younger kids, but I found myself to be among the minority in every mmorpg's i've played, everyone i got to know had kids or a full time job, etc.
one thing though, many young people do tend to use profanities, but still, even the games aren't a perfect world, and it is a MMORPG, think of the immature ones to be the people that's roleplaying as the town's idiot or something. works for me.

And one of the guildmembers whole family played it, like his wife and his son and stuff. Hrmm... my parents are 46... that'd be cool to play UO with them. I think... Well, first they'd have to start to like gaming. I've heard of family's that play games like UO and Everquest together. There is a big age range.

Seriouslly though, when I play mmorpg I can never guess for sure the age of people I team with and I never ask. Has said earlier, maturity is sooOoo unrelated to the age of a person. That's why I don't care about numbers unless they are on my paycheck.

Agree and disagree. There are times when I can say with a high degree of certainty how old a player is - usually by their responses, their spelling, their vocabularly and their use of punctuation. But the 'net is the great leveller in that regard.
Age is irrelevant (unless cybering some foxy Wood Elf chick who thinks your r0x0r) - attitude is everything.

Wow everyone is alot older than I thought. Im part of a Halo forum and there is nothing but 13-17 year olds with the occasional college student.
Yes kids that age are very immature but they can be very good gamers also.

40 isn't nearly as old as you think it is, speaking as one who is knocking on 40's door.
