Im excited for the beta too. However, disconnecting every 3 mins while trying to play the mist of pandaria beta all this week has been a well needed shower of reality , so i am ready for anything.
Just like with TOR, I've got no excitement for this one, however I also have no hate for it.
I will continue to look at feedback from players this weekend, and after launch, just for the sake of interest in the genre.
If I do end up giving this one a shot, it will be post launch at some point and only if I tire of my current mmo lineup, but I am very happy for the folks who have waited so long for this one, and I hope it;s everything you guy & gals want.
For me, I have found that no matter how excited I get for a new release, it never lives up to the old mmo's like AC1 and UO, and even EQ1, even as they stand today. So I stopped getting psyched up about new releases a while back, unless it's truly indie which I always enjoy being a part of that kind of development.
So here's to you guys and gals! Have a blast and don't forget to post your thoughts, as some of us who aren't interested in the game are still interested in the genre as a whole!

If you are an Asheron's Call 1 nostalgic, I'm surprised you don't watch this game closer. To me, at least on the paper, it's the closest thing to AC1 in MMO history so far. Player skill based combat, less gear/level reliance, all this sounds very similar to me.

I think it will be a good game, but just like I do not buy hype anymore, I also do not get too excited, that way I will look at what something is a little more honestly I think....I think I will have fun in GW2.
I actually forgot about it being today for a bit, distracted by the NFL draft.
hmm im confused.... The countdown on the guildwars 2 website is done and it says beta is low live but I cant login. The beta invite email says noon PST not EST so did they screw up on the website and do a wrong countdown or screw up on the email and the beta doesnt start for another 3.5 hours????

I am currently playing AC again and am very engrossed in it, just like I was back in 99. But I never rule out a game until I have tried it, this one just hasn't made me want to try it. It has things that i really like about it like day/night and weather... as well as underwater adventuring, etc... but it also has quite a bit that made me cringe as I read about it or watch it in videos.
I definitely am not ruling it out forever, just not excited about it for myself is all. Still excited about it's impact on the genre though
A few hours ago when I noticed there was a new brand of beer at my local grocery store I haven't tasted yet! Saving it for when I'm able to log in.
Haha I bought two 5 liter mini kegs of german pils for the week end...
Man, I'm clearly a rank amateur betaist compared to you:) Oh well, live and learn...
Well, it's pure luck - they had a promotion at the store, you buy a mini keg, and the second is half price. So I got 10 liters of good, draught german beer for 10 euros, definitely a good bargain

Im giddy. Guild Wars 2 will finally be playable in like 4 hours (for me). The last time I felt this excited about a game was 1995 when Chrono Trigger was released for the Super Nintendo. I remember reading my Electronic Gaming Monthly to get all the details and locals. Story by Dragon Quest creator, Music by Final Fantasy music creator, and Art work by (one of my favorite artists) Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball Z fame. It was the trifecta!
Actually playing it? Lived up to everything I expected. It was a phenomenal RPG and now that I think about it, actually changed the RPG genre for back then. Though it was still turn-based and utilized the action time bar, battles appeared on screen and had small cinematics. Also had the "TECH" system where two characters could combine their powers for a single master attack.
Guild Wars 2 strums up those same feelings.
For those who feel the same, when was the last game that made you feel that way?
I Am Gamer. Play. Forever.
Well, as you know from our last discussion, I'm not big into getting too excited about a game before seeing it for myself, but a long time ago I was not nearly so disciplined. Of course it was a different time, then. There were NO RPGs for computers. DOOM had been released and the computer world went nuts (literally from my POV) over this new EFF.. PEE... ESS...?? genre.
So while everyone and everything was being devoted to jumping and playing the next big FPS bandwagon, RPGs... died. No exaggeration, there was a stretch of years... almost half a decade where there were no real RPGs to play. There were weird hybrids trying to latch on to the FPS craze but they were so watered down as to be unrecognizale.
So along comes a game that says it's a new RPG, and we were starved. It was a glistening glass of water to a dehydrated man. That game's name was Fallout. I was excited about it but also cautious. The RPG games that had trickled through the system were sad parodies of the old gold box series and Wizardry games. So I was controlled, but when I played it, it was incredible! Graphic combat, intricate character development, 2D/3D hybrid isometric. A REAL RPG! But somewhere along playing it that all paled. What I wasn't ready for was one of the best stories to ever hit computer games. Unexpected twists, and a surprising ending.
So, almost to the day I finished it and was sitting back it the most sated feeling I have ever had at the end of a computer game, i get the word that will set me on edge for the next year...
This unknown company known for making medical software has procured the D&D license, and will be making a new FANTASY RPG. I was hooked. I watched their website everyday. I read every magazine that would even have a minor ad for it. When they released the System test client. I watched that damn gnoll walk across my screen 1000 times. I knew every fireball that chased him off my 15" monitor.
And then the day came. I rushed home with my newest (for YEARS) Fantasy CRPG. I installed it rolled up characters and got lost in Forgotten Realms in a small town on the Sword Coast, called Baldur's Gate.
The RPG had officially been ressurected. Thank you Interplay, Thank you Bioware, Thank you Tim Cain, Thank you Greg Zeschuk, Thank you Ray Muzyka. My genre of choice had returned.
(That's not to say I wasn't a mean DOOM player!)
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.
When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.
No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

10 liters for 10 euros? Where do you live and are there any vacant flats out there for a small family?

Probably when EQ2 was coming out. I was so hyped for that game.
2 months later, I was playing WoW.

Website says 2h 33m to go still for me.
Not sure if serious here...
On http://www.guildwars2.com/en/ , it still says "2h35m20s".

SWTOR, but then I played the beta.
Before that, I'd have to say WAR.
