    MMORPG.com, you are trolling us....hard.

    Its simple.

If you like the over used outdated MMORPG staples done in a piss poor way except by Asian MMO standards along with cheap gimmicky combat that is supposed to be special because you can dodge...which isnt new and even GW2 does better...than Tera is for you.

If not...ha. Tera would be good if it was free and without a sub because it brings nothing F2P games have and it sure doesnt stack up to former P2P games that are now pay trap free games.

Tera is sluggish and adds nothing new but the combat system, which you will eventually notice it will get boring after leveling 20+ lvls ( i did get to lvl 24 in a lancer ). other than that it’s a typical grindfest Korean MMO kill 20 trees in lvl 1 guess what you kill 20 trees in lvl 3 oh yes you will kill 20 trees again in lvl 10 and so on. Soloing an elite boss sure you can do that with the combat system but it will take you 20+ min to do so. Dungeons are poorly designed and offer nothing new so everything else in the game. pvp sure lets duel but we need to stand still so we can hit each other. you guys who are hyping or trying to do so for tera just give me one good reason to play this game other than the BAD combat system.

as of now am really looking forward to play in TSW closed coming Beta (praying that the game won't suck like Tera did)

You don't like dungeons, at level 24 you have access to a single dungeon. The pluralization feels a little unneccesary dear..

You don't like the combat, I don't like GW2's combat - Go figure people like different things.

It's Korean or Asian comments really just seem like pointless racist additions.

It does take a long time to solo a boss, as it should.

Other than the combat system and the dungeons and the 'everything else in the game' you seem to dislike.

No, wait you said everything in the game. Not sure you really left anything for me to talk about..

You played GW2 beta for 3 days, and it takes under a day to get to level 24. I don't think you really gave TERA a chance before you decided that everything in the game was so Asian and terrible.

    ;DDDDDD

Two Days Were Enough For me To decide if this game was worth it or not. i simply found myself got no reason to go back and play the rest CBT though i had access to them through Pre ordering. the game is flat and offer nothing new if i like Tera i should have then Go play WoW its the same game but better in everything (not counting the combat as o told u it gets way boring by time)

TERA is better than GW2 in all aspects: Graphics, fluidity, combat, lag, PvP, fun. GW2 is only a new WoW clone.

  • ElVisitanteElVisitante Member Posts: 44

I played in both betas, got to level 25 in GW2 and 30 in TERA, and I can say without a doubt that TERA is better. That doesn't mean that GW2 is bad (it isn't), but in my opinion it is only a little bit above average. It doesn't do any of the new things that it promises; quests are still fetch/kill/collect, except now you get them all in one quest, and combat is like any other tab target MMO except GW2 decided to add in a dodge button.

The events are definitely nice, but they're so frequent and reset so quickly that they soon lose their specialness. TERA's combat though, is the gift that keeps on giving. Since pretty much everything you do in an MMO involves combat in some form, it's important that the combat be fun, and it is. The political system puts power in the hands of the players and allows for a good community, and the BAMs and dungeons are just plain fun. Nothing more to it then that.

    TERA gets my vote.

Say it is better if that is your opinion, but to call it another clone is just ridiculous. The questing system is obviously different so therefore it isn't a clone.

Disclaimer: I'm simply stating my opinion.  Any attempts to refute my preferences will only result in being hilarious.

To me, the quintessential action "feel" would be Arkham City.  When reading my opinion, understand that this is where I'm coming from, and what I'm looking for.  I only played a few hours of each this weekend, but I'll be picking up GW2 sometime after launch.  Tera has some cool ideas, but the combat wasn't what I was hoping for.  I can sum it up pretty simply: I died once in 3 hours playing Tera, I died 5 times in 1 hour playing GW2.

In Tera, the fights were obvious.  Yes, it was action in the strict sense of needing to actively aim and avoid attacks.  But the combat itself didn't feel like I was in an action game.   I don't like the simplicity in classes.  The approach to PvP seems like it would be a lot of fun.  I have a couple friends who I haven't heard from for 2 days now because of this game.  I know this is a great game, and it's going to build a strong community.  However, it's not for me.

In GW2, I was pissed.  Most of the time, I was throwing my hands in the air or saying 'what?" like a noob getting pwned in halo for the first time.  It was...amazing.  If I sit down and can flawlessly execute strategies in a game in one day, or even one week, I'm bored.  i don't play games to be amazing at them.  I play games to strive to be amazing at them and have moments that are amazing.  This is GW2.  You aren't provided a template for action-based combat and then placed in a context for slow-mo dance fighting that "looks" cool (this is how Tera felt to me).  GW2 combat is cool.  Like Arkham City, I felt bad for the mob when I figured out the fight.  I wanted to check my fist to make sure I didn't actually break it on the skull of a Charr.  I got that oomph feeling.  I wasn't even doing a good job of varying my weapon sets.  I can only imagine what the game potential is for a player who knows the challenges and the tools available and how to execute a variety of strategies.

You need to know your shit.  You need to know the other guy's shit.  And when you die, it's because you didn't know shit.  If you're lucky, at the end of a fight, you'll have learned some shit.  However, when you have those moments where there's no thinking but only reaction, instinct and execution, well...that's the shit.  This is not an MMO as you've played them.  If you don't like to play every role in a fight, think quickly on your feet without preset rotations, or learning new paradigms that challenge your conventional wisdom, stay far aawy from this game.  You'll just sound like a noob playing Halo.  pwn

Ok, I agree, is not a WoW clone (I was trolling).   But TERA is better.

I'm a huge mmorpg fan and I have played them all (even Tera). I haven't flamed any of the other games and feel I'm pretty partial. GW2 is the least GW2 clone I have ever played. I don't comment to much on things like this but this is just pure wrong to even try and compare. (Nothing against WoW either)

rainorxx, seeing how I am also over 50 years old also I have learned to do a little bit of thinking before posting on these forums. You might want to do the same.

Personal opinion. TERA is better than gw2 in every way besides the quest system. However, GW2 uses a free to play model which means that it will make a great secondary game. Ill be playing both, but neither of them will be my main mmo at thr end of 2012. Im a ffxiv addict.

I actually think that both Luke and good ol' Bill Murphy actually prefer GW2 hands down... but that's just my opinion :P The wording in this article is very selective and careful, especially the "as it stands right now" bit at the end, which is a clear opener for an opinion change in a later article. In other words, TERA gets the edge because it is completed and released, but when GW2 is completed and released.................?

Yes, in TERA you can use a game controller...if you want. I was talking about that strange thing in GW2 when you fall on the ground and need press some buttons to stand up... I really dont understant that. Remind me Metal Gear when Snake is tortured.

You mean a hotbar?  A super-imposed hotbar.  That is all it is.  It has 4 skills to use.  You don't just sit there and spam to get up.  Only 1 button heals you can and you only need to click it once.

Big disagree on quest quality with Tera - this is the very first time I have ever started clicking through quest texts without reading - why? because I just couldn't take them seriously... the quests have no charm to them.

Tera graphics and combat are really good imo.

GW2 really appeals to my explore and wonder side, not just the amazing architecture and zone design but exploring all the class and skill options too. I love the graphics/style and combat mechanics here too.

Both games are really good - they have both saved the 2012 MMO community from the dissapointment of a recent xmas stench IMO.

I've played both and TERA just didn't HOOK me like GW2. Maybe I have not played TERA to a high enough level to make it happen, but GW2 had that "Hook Power" from the get go. It's so fun and imo so much better than TERA (at least intially) that I'll wait for GW2 over TERA.  In the meantime I'm going for D3 and I'm pretty excited about TSW :)

  • k-damagek-damage Member CommonPosts: 738

I think it's quite an honest comparison, but GW2 obviously misses some advantage here by the lack of an opinion from a hardcore PVPer (= pure strategist type, 200% min-maxer). Or even better, from a PVP hardcore guild. Because this is where GW2 will really shine.

And overall, just wait till those kind of players start to post videos on youtube about their glorious moments. Until then, a lot of people won't understand GW2's potential further than "oh these dynamic events and catlike warriors ?".

From the sound of it, Luke is neither impressed with a dynamic world nor appreciates the difficulty of GW2. That's not necessarily a bad thing and why anyone would rag on him about it is silly. Not all MMOs are hard and considering their popularity, it seems a lot of people are fine with that. Not everyone liked the difficulty of GW1's content, which is why a lot of people have never even been to FoW, even people that've played the game for years.

Personally I prefer GW2. I've had enough of the TERA-style gameplay to last me a lifetime, it's not something I'd play even if it went F2P. The only thing TERA has that interests me is the more action-oriented combat, however not only does Raiderz do that as well, it's f2p and has a far more interesting, Monster Hunter-esque mechanic. I'm not looking to bother with any games, in the future, that don't try to break from the mold considerably. That means, for me, pass on TERA, yay for GW2, and keep on the lookout for TSW news and info.

Ok, you still didn't take my suggestion. Us older guys have to think before we post! These younger guys are sharp as razors! Now, in the post you claim GW2 "looks like a console game". Then the next comment was Tera actally has a pop up for an Xbox 360 controller which is used on a game console. You sir are trying to make fun of GW2 looking like a console game but the game you are defending has the options to play the game using a console controller. You need to think before posting, you are making our generation look really dumb.
