Great more people that didn't have any patience to make it past lvl20. FYI It gets alot better later on in the game.
weird, that's exactly the same they said for aion too :P
Not just Aion...heh. Mostly they've said "Kaching!"

It's not a big deal and at time their strategies do change.
Imagine my surprise when I was in one of the snowy areas and attacked what I thought was a duo of creatures only to then be joined by a third one.
They were hard fights as a lancer doesn't really have high damage output and you can block only so much before you have to attack to regain stamin/power.
The mobs themselves are very "itneresting" to say the least. Very much like Lineage 2 mobs.
However, if one finds oneself on the cynical side and can't see the forest from the trees and is going to nitpick reusing mobs (and I imagine there might be a technical reason for for this) I highly encourage you not to play. though I'd be hard pressed to name many games that dont' reuse mobs. LOTRO anyone? And that was a fun game while I played it.
If you play on a pvp server you will find a bit more excitement. If you play on a pve server you will find some fun fights but it's very much kill x quests. Lots of them and you will find that you outlevel many of them, but that is what it is.
Still I had loads of fun last night when I was asked to tank one of the instnaced dungeons. I was a bit high for the dungeon but that didn't stop me from doing stupid things like pulling a bunch of skeletons behind barrels only to find out the barrels explode taking me out in one shot.

We are all responsbile for our own fun and going into any of these games with the attitude of "ok I've done it all so what do you have to keep me engaged" is really just going to end up wasing time and money.
It's a fun game so work toward the 20's with your first large mobs (BAMS) and your first dungeon and just enjoy take it as it is.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Having played from eq through wow, gw, rift, aion, swtor, ffxiv. etc etc
Yes, I know that all mmo's repeat mobs at different levels to some degree. They do however add new ones or some different mechanic to add a degree of interest.
Some even merge these into a storyline....
Not so Tera, this has got to be the most uninteresting levelling experience I've had, and that's saying something compared to Aion at original launch.
How many Jesters can they stick in the game? Looking exactly the same, doing exactly the same, with exactly the same adds. Talk about cut and paste programming.
No wonder this game bombed in Asia. It just goes to show that you have to have some indpendent thought in addition to getting yourself sued by NCsoft

Tera is super linear, there's no question about it. But it is not boring if you're in a light hearted mood, or simply chatting with other on the discussion canal while bashing mobs.
Lvl 18 warrior here, and this is how it turned out to be for me. Mindlessly click on "accept" quests, go to waypoint, turn off the brain, bash, and have some good times in the chat à-la-MSN. I'm actually enjoying this mood.
And I'm starting to think this is what korean grind fests are supposed to be. Chatrooms in a fantasy world.
The story isn't quite interesting at all, until you get to the higher levels. It sucks you have to get up there to experience it. But it's worth it in the long run.
Besides not like it won't only take you under a month to get there. That's saying a lot about the "grind" compared to the months and months it'll take you to hit max in most asian games. Americans are so quick to judge. It's like having sex for the first time and saying "you know. This just isn't what I thought it'd be. I'm done." In the first 5 mins....lmao

Actually to my experience TERA has very variying monsters on new areas when comparing to the games the OP did. At least till lvl30 every area has got mostly new or highly variying mobs, the OP is basically lying, the proof is right there when you play the game
Ofcourse there's quite some copy pasting too on certain areas and with certain mobs, nothing unexpected there, it's only natural to see certain mobs in many areas unless the lore specifically says that these guys can live only in map X because magical invisible walls prevent them from moving anywhere else. /facepalm

Beautiful. Especially the underlined part. Some time ago I stopped myself from falling into that trap. I think of the attitude as leaning back and going "OK, entertain me." Which is exactly what the newer MMOs are doing.
They're spoonfeeding you fun until you could burst. What happens when the spoonfeeding slows down?
I'd love to hear what MMO's got it "right" for you.
m0lly thinks there will be this sort a question for the end of times always someone asking without trying to even think skindeep why oh why some people play mmos and sametime dont wanna raid or party or whatever is a standard mmo key.
I don't mind the quest system because the combat keeps me going even through the "grindy" parts.
BAM quests and dungeons break the grind and some of these quests are actually worth doing if you are aiming for fast grind.
Personally I don't give a shiz about the quest system if the game is solid otherwise. The "kill 10 rats" is even in TSW and GW2 that are upcoming mmos and I wouldn't expect it to be overhauled anytime soon. Masking the quests into "dynamic events" doesn't remove the fact that the quests are still quests
Meh, I don't mind the mobs so much. Some got interesting attacks and looks. What bothers me the most is the linear path, quest line that everyone must go through in order to level up, uninspiring and unentertaining at least for me. Sure one can grind mobs but that will make leveling up even slower, and for a game that's based so much on gear and level one cannot simply just fall behind. The game is a race to 60 to get your best gear and are able to PvP hopefully on a more even field (lvl 30vs40 is not an even fight) not sure what holds at 60 though, what sort of endgame there is I guess we'll see.
Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

while I agree in the big scheme of things many quests end up being the same thing... SWTOR tried to hide this with vo but combat in that game is just so brain dead boring it ruins it... But I also don't think it's to much to ask for developers to make combat fun and engaging as well as the quests that have you killing those monsters be enjoyable ... Couple upcoming games have nailed this mix much better than any game I have played to date.

Yeah...I would wait a few months after their launches before making such a statement.
I remember thinking "SWTOR's fully voiced. That should be fun!" And after logging close to 100 hours I was about to spoon my brains out. I couldn't take it any longer.
I gave this one a try a few months ago during one of the weekend betas, and i had such high hopes for it at one point, but yea i didnt last more than 30 mins.
First Quest, go kill 5 tree monsters...alright sure
Second Quest, go kill 5 elder tree monsters......uninstall
So you don't play MMOs?
How else do you plan to level in a game if not by killing monsters?
Thats why you make a skimpy-clad female. So you can watch them bounce around while mindlessly killing mobs. It worked well with my axe class thing. Berserker? I had a good bit of fun AOE-ing like 3 groups of the minimobs.

Well, calling you a liar was a bit harsh, but I am curious about your one comment about there being Jesters all over the place (and you're level 30).
I've only found them in like two areas of Porpori lands, (at level 37) so just curious where else you are finding them.
Or maybe you and I have a different idea of what a Jester is?
And I'll agree, there's definitely some npc reuse, heck, they keep reskinning the boars in almost every place, but overall I don't feel the level of aggrevation you do with regards to the resuse. Could just be personal tolerance I suppose.

I totally agree! I dont understand the hype regarding the dynamic quests in GW2.. you just skip the npc and get a quest marker directly on the map.. AND guess what?! You gonna kill mobs! You gonna kill tons and tons of mobs even in GW2.. so whats the problem really?
If you dont like killing mobs dont play mmo's... TERA has a unique combatsystem that makes combat fun! Thats all that matters!
I have the same problem with this game's mobs that I do with SWTORs. It's not the lack of variety, it's how they are placed and set up. You either fight 1 single mob, which I like or you fight 1 mob and his 8 little friends which is annoying as all hell, specially when they get under your feet and for some reason the targeting doesn't always hit them. Can't hit a mob at point blank range? WTF!!! Every quest tells you to go fight clumps of these or the single mobs. I actually jump for joy when I get collect quests and deliver quests because those let me see something new.
Again, just like SWTOR, this game has no real depth. SWTOR had story and no combat with lackluster enemy clusters and boring leveling. Tera has combat with lackluster enemy clusters, boring leveling and a pitiful story.
If I could take Tera's combat and throw it into games like EQ2, Aion, and SWTOR I would be a happy camper.
I'll start by saying I only played the beta, getting this game in a few days once exam week is over.
But I liked that about the game, the mob blobs. I utterlly hate fighting one on one or two on one against the common stock of enemies, that's just boring and well, I'm so used to it at this point because every freakin' MMO sets up mob placement to be like that so you don't end up dying to much (and rage unsubbing). At least with Tera I could take on abunch of mobs at once and come out victorious and know I earned that. Unlike Wow (using it because it's the most recent MMO I've played) where I can only pull multiple mobs on a tank class, or FFXI where if even in groups you got a few to many you'd be utterlly ruined.
I totally agree! I dont understand the hype regarding the dynamic quests in GW2.. you just skip the npc and get a quest marker directly on the map.. AND guess what?! You gonna kill mobs! You gonna kill tons and tons of mobs even in GW2.. so whats the problem really?

I'm glad you like Tera's combat. I agree that Tera's combat is the best feature of the game.
GW2's dynamic quests aren't related to the heart quests that are marked on the map. It's hard to explain what GW2's dynamic events are like so here are two short videos showing a couple dynamic events that happen in the starter areas:
I guess TERA has a great NPC Design. I mean you grind the same mobs (model / texture) in any MMO over and over again, sometimes because of Lore, sometimes because the designers have been lazy
AND yet, TERA had outstanding enough NPCs to make the TO remember it, but he couldn't renember the copy & paste spiders, rats, rabbits, minotaurs in GW2, or the copy & pasted races of SWTOR. (same 5 faces over and over).
Personally i'd rather "grind" 5 great animated and skinned npcs than 20 black dots wioth 8 legs.

I am curious as well. Where were all these jesters at? Because yeah they are all over Porpori, Eldritch Academy, but I dont recall seeing them elsewhere. Not sayign that Tera probably doesnt reuse NPC skins, most games do. The OP said he played EQ, well eq/eq2 was infamous for reuse, so was Aion, so all of a sudden it is a problem now but not before. I see.
I totally agree! I dont understand the hype regarding the dynamic quests in GW2.. you just skip the npc and get a quest marker directly on the map.. AND guess what?! You gonna kill mobs! You gonna kill tons and tons of mobs even in GW2.. so whats the problem really?

As you can see in the video, GW2's PvE certainly isn't kill 5 apple trees, kill 5 orange trees, kill 5 cherry trees, kill 5 oak trees.
Honestly, it's not complicated. Dyanic events are essentially a branching tree of quests. Alot of do A the B, don't do A then C. In the end, it's much the same as the WAR dynamic quests and will likely suffer the same issue: At the cap, people will grow bored of their easy to understand nature. People will exploit the branching system for the biggest reward, those who purposely try to break this will be seen as griefers and the community will slowly spiral.

The most mmos use the same npc design as you level up.
The npcs is a part of the lore and a part of the virtual world desing. There are factions families and races.
Your character race is the same to others too.
In a virtual world with standar and premade lore an orc is allways an orc.An elf is allways an elf.
In real world if you see a cat in your place or your country, you can see a cat in another place or country too.
I can't see a problem here.
I dont find Tera more boring than other games.

GW2's dynamic quests aren't related to the heart quests that are marked on the map. It's hard to explain what GW2's dynamic events are like so here are two short videos showing a couple dynamic events that happen in the starter areas:

As you can see in the video, GW2's PvE certainly isn't kill 5 apple trees, kill 5 orange trees, kill 5 cherry trees, kill 5 oak trees.
I see.
Tera is basically lineage 2 with semi action combat and without the great pvp system.
