I think that the game should be the same amount as it is here in the United States, which would be closer to 37 pounds. However, this game still seems like a bargain to me. No subscription fee should save you some pounds per month.

I like this type of accounting. Saving money on theoretical costs is the best way to make profits or steal underpants!
i will re-look this game before buying after 6 months above from it official launch date.
since VSOH, War, Aion, AOC, FFXVI....(list goes on) till the recent SWTOR taught me to be rational.
What if 90% of the players here and elsewhere tell you this isnt like those other games? I know its hard to believe but GW2 actually delivers what it promises. I know we are condtioned to believe that MMOs are predisposed to failure but thats because the majority of all the new releases over the last few years that have failed are WoW clones and GW2 is as diametrically different from WoW as a game can be.

theoretical? the price of digital editon of GW2 is the same as others MMORPG. all around 50€, but even if GW2 cost some pounds in begining (not case...) you steal save lot of money compared P2P MMORPG.
its not theoretical, if you want play P2P MMORPG you must pay the sub otherwise you cant play. in GW2 you only need to play the game nothing more to get all the game, but you can still spend money in shop if you WANT.
i dont see any steal, steal was if GW2 were a P2W MMORPG and that is not the case.
compared with P2P games yes, you are saving lot of money for year...

Here i'll explain. Saving money involves not spending money at all. The only way you can save money with an expenditure is if you have no choice in the purchase, and by making an equivalent purchase you spend less.
As far as I know, buying an mmo is optional.
The theoretical part kicks in when it comes to subscription costs and duration of play. You have to assume long term subscription and you probably assumed it at $15 a month, neither of which is likely for 50% or more of players of any game. We also have to assume that GW2 is an equivalent game in order to estimate a "savings".
Example, does it have equal content to say LOTRO? Is it even a long term savings compared to that game's lifetime subscription model? Isn't LOTRO free? How about Rift, if you play Rift for a few months, with no box cover price isn't that cheaper and therefore a savings?
In other words you generally can't save money while spending it AND what are you comparing this too, WoW? Well, an annual sub got you D3 a little while back, the promotion may still be going, if you were going to get D3 anyway aint that a "savings"?
Does anyone else think that £49.99(UK) is.. well.. just a tad over priced?
I knoooooooow Guild wars is not just 'another' mmorpg,
But £49.99 just for the online Digital version is outrageous!
Thoughts on the matter??
Before posting, remember.. not everyone has a wallet full of cash, or parents to buy games for them.
Man... GW2 have the same price of the others mmorpgs comming this year like TERA and TSW and its cheaper than a videogame game (ps3, xbox360) and ofc there are NO SUBS so.... NO i dont think its expensive !
just to be clear, £50 is roughly about $75 - $80 .. the average retail price of a PC game in the UK is around £20 - £30, although there are a number of places that will charge you more. The question is, is the game worth £50, and bearing in mind there are microtransactions associated with the game.. is this acceptable? Personally i've never paid that much for a game, nor shall i be changing that any time soon, especially as there is a very good chance that when the game is finally released, it will be available for a much more acceptable £30 ($45 - $50)
ok fir st off i really hope nobody posted this already.
50 euros = 64.7250 US dollars
so yeah that's about the same as what we pay in the USA.

i understand where you are coming from. i will continue to keep a look out on GW2 till the day i felt it worth buying and playing. cheers!
bit of a rip off £49 for a bog standard DE ill wait a few months see how the game rolls out befor i put my money on it . no faith in games any more im sick off buying half done games
Maybe you shouldn't bitch about the price of a game being the same as what americans have to pay and instead wonder why your currency is so over inflated that you would seem to be paying more for a game then you really are.
Here i'll explain. Saving money involves not spending money at all. The only way you can save money with an expenditure is if you have no choice in the purchase, and by making an equivalent purchase you spend less.

Yes it is a rip off and it's exactly the same as what we have put up with in Australia for decades.
For example, in Australia right now EBGames for is selling GW2 for $88, when you can buy it online for $59.95 and the Australian dollar is worth more than the US dollar (I think when I bought it I got if for about $57).
And another example, Steam is charging Australians more for the digital downloads of new release games. Max Payne 3 is $89.99 on Steam for Australians, but only $59.99 on Amazon. Apparently crossing the pacific is adding $30 the price of a digital download.
There are no taxes or charges applicable for Australians on purchases less than $1,000 so there is no excuse for this sort of rip off (edit: for online purchases, sales in Australia have a 10% GST). They are simply charging you more because they can get away with it.
Maybe you shouldn't bitch about the price of a game being the same as what americans have to pay and instead wonder why your currency is so over inflated that you would seem to be paying more for a game then you really are.
First off, they are comparing the price to single player games (NOTE: This is not a single player game). Secondly, they are comparing the price to what you guys pay in America (NOTE: The UK ALWAYS pays more than the US). Thirdly, they are comparing the price to an MMO with subscription fees (NOTE: This game does not have sub fees). Finally, they are complaining because they don't know what they are getting for their money (NOTE: Even with all the different impressions they still can't make up their mind).
I say, if you can't spend money now or you don't feel it's in you to buy a game you consider too expensive, there's no need to yell about it. Just don't buy the game until you feel comfortable purchasing it.

You know sometimes there are 5 different listings for the same game on Amazon, some more expensive than others? And in fact, some of the cheaper prices are not even listed until you just stumble upon and are like "WUUUUAAAT?? I just paid 40 pounds for that crap, you're telling me I could have paid 20????" (NOTE: True story). There are some cases where Amazon sells their games at higher prices than other sites like Play.com so, no one is an angel in the online sales market. It's up to you to decide what you're willing to pay for.
But £49.99 just for the online Digital version is outrageous!
It's still a full game, same as one in a box. So the price is anything but outrageous! Think of the contents you'll get when playing this game considering no monthly fee ever. It is well worth it imo.
Before posting, remember.. not everyone has a wallet full of cash, or parents to buy games for them.
Not wanting to sound harsh, but people not able to afford buying game shouldn't play them, since they obviously have other things to worry about in life...
I had a harsh period in my life years and years ago, and my worry wasn't to be able to buy the next new video game, but to find a job and earn money to live first. Leisure activities come after that. Now I'm back to normal since a long time, and paying 50 or 60 Euros for a game isn't a problem.
Not to mention GW2 has no monthly fee.

Yes and prob the main reason im not buying it.. that is just a stupid price to sell a game for..
Will wait until its cheaper in a sale or somithng..
It's available for £35 as a physical box from launch, but I get the feeling many of the drama posters in this thread know that, not least the OP.
I guess some people want to spread bad feeling and anti-hype around about this title though... For whatever reason. I mean, it's a threat to a lot of games out there.
And for the first time in a long time, that threat is real.

This is not a game.
if you can't afford it, dont buy it
if you feel is over priced, don't buy it
simple as that (applicable to everything in this world made available to purchase, eg: iPhone)
lastly you do not need to post a poll asking for other opinion either.

Do I sound like a fanboy now? I dont care... I just liked the game that much.
And yes... as always on the free market... if it costs too much, dont buy it... simple as that.
I don't want to come off as snarky.
But seriously guys, It's an MMO, WITHOUT a subscription fee...
So, those of you complaining about the price of the game would rather spend $10 less for the game, but hundreds more a year in subscription fee's?
