let's fan out the people who post on this topic. from now on, all hardcore players, people who live in there parents basement, and men who's name start with the letter Q, cannot post on this topic. this is NOT a MMORPG, this is NOT meant for hardcore gamers who play games in 10 hour intervals, and this is NOT supposed to be compared to stuff like WoW or EQII. It's a game that's meant to be a Online RPG with the annoying stuff cut out. simple as that.
If Guild Wars isn't MMORPG then it needs to be removed from MMORPG. (As well as other other non-MMORPG.) Either that, add NWN to the line up. It's call an CO-OPRPG because GW requires cooperation to win in this game. The game is still a MMORPG deep down.

You should ask for help or get more info from other players, not just do what you can and just give up, damn. Oh well maybe you will try again. C ya !

Originally posted by Astrael I happen to be a HUGE fan of Guild Wars. I've been playing since the beta. And one thing that bothers me is people complaining it's not an MMORPG. THAT'S CAUSE IT'S NOT! They don't even call it an MMORPG. I've got a direct quote from the FAQ on the Guild Wars website that should clear that up.
Is Guild Wars an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)? Guild Wars has some similarities to existing MMORPGs, but it also has some key differences. Like existing MMOs, Guild Wars is played entirely online in a secure hosted environment. Thousands of players inhabit the same virtual world. Players can meet new friends in gathering places like towns and outposts where they form parties and go questing with them. Unlike many MMOs, when players form a party and embark upon a quest in Guild Wars, they get their own private copy of the area where the quest takes place. This design eliminates some of the frustrating gameplay elements commonly associated with MMOs, such as spawn camping, loot stealing, and standing in a queue in order to complete a quest.
... then... Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game). Guild Wars was designed from the ground up to create the best possible competitive role-playing experience.
That should explain it. It's not truly an MMORPG. Also, has anyone who's criticized the PvE system taken on the Underworld or Fissure of Woe? Or attempted to kill Glint? They're some nasty monsers there. Also for PVP, the main part of it is not the arena. That's just practice. The team competitions are extreme. Hall of Heros battles are intense, and require good groups with experienced members.
I understand a lot of people may not like the game for certain elements. But I personally have put about 150 hours onto the game since the beta. I always find something new to do.
Well said dude, GW owns, this is coming from a player of both WoW + Guild Wars! First define what an MMORPG is? Because last I check GW has every elemental an average MMORPG has. It may not have multiple servers, but multiple servers don't make an mmorpg what they are. If it isn't a MMORPG then this game and other non-mmorpgs game needs to be removed from this site since it's unfair that such games are being promoted in a MMORPG dominated site.
ANET only cause GW an CO-OPRPG because it requires cooperative play to win any battles. The problem with this logic is that ANET contradicts this stance by adding henchmen and allowing them to be played in both pvp and pve. If this were a co-op rpg wouldn't the gameplay force players to rely on the next person rather than a henchman?
Guild War is both a PvE and PvP. It's PvE aspect was suppose to make this game seem more deep and provide gameplay for those who don't like there head getting caved-in. Unfortunately, pve can finish in "one hardcore weekened." PvP was created for those testing their tactics and build against other friendly online players through co-op efforts, but again defeats itself with the ability to use henchmen in pvp and putting random players together in random team.
Another problem here too is that Guild Wars intertwines both styles of gameplay with each other. The only way to be more effective in pvp is to find skills/runes/armor in pve and the only way to get access to more pvp areas, you have to go pve. Instead of increasing gameplay, it's only cause the neglection in both communities, gameplay exhaustion and player frustration. You feel like your play Pokemon half the time. Due to the lack of co-op gameplay in this game, pvp, and especially pve for that matter, feels more like a job than a game.
ok, first of all i have a lvl 60 in WoW, and at lvl 60 the game has just begun... so many instances and raids to run and lots of gear to get. not to mention molten core epic gear and way!! better grapics then GW all tho they may be cartoony but the rock!!!
dont even know what your talking about when u say it just get boring you probaly didnt have a good guild. World of Warcraft kills btw in GW you cant even jump what is that?!?
I bought GW's and haven't really got into it, granted I don't have a guild yet but it was challenging to me, I play COH and one thing I missed almost immediatly was the travel powers, it was so slow and the loot and crafting thing I'm not so hot on, I've never played WOW and I'm pretty sure I never will just by looking at their forums and reading them on these forums, I have no interest in PvP so I don't think either of these games will work for me. But GW is very nice looking I have to give it that.
P.S. If your having fun continue playing if not quit, and if you didn't have fun you don't have to be a jack arse about it.

--- The fact that you can't jump is what drew me to GW... I got tired of "players" in other MMOs running around like rabbits anytime the group wasn't fighting. In GW, though such people can still run around and agro half the map... they can't do it like horny bunnies... And that ALONE is worth my $00.00 a month.

If only we could tell this to every person (must be thousands) who say GW is bad for not being an mmorpg. Great find Astrael
It isn't that GW is a bad game. The reason for this great divide is two fold. 1) It is highly misrepresented in many reviews and some of the ads 2). people differ on prefering PvP or RP/PvE.
I regret buying GW, i can't stand it. It has only slightly more depth in any form than PSO, and that comes primarily from shallow PvP.
Now...my nephew loves it. He is looking for another type of game than i am. He can sit and play smash bros endlessly also (i can only with friends and drinking beer now >.>).
If i didn't already have PvP games i could play in short intervals maybe i would enjoy GW much more, but i find it lacking almost as much a WoW....but you can't really directly compare the games.
but ya....highly misrepresented i think that is the root of the issue (BTW WoW is pretty dang misrepresented also).

Same here. GW is a decent game that should been made into a console game rather than a pc game due to it's short term replayability. It feels like a console game since they isn't much content and it has mini-games & task that require group effort, which is mostly seen in multiplayer console games today. It failed because 1) the community, 2) the lack of content to entertained or to give the game depth and 3) the dymanics. GW lacks so much that past mmorpgs have and that's what made it half-decent game. The thing I enjoy was the fact that GW felt like a party game, but it's not really a deep game.
Whether you like WoW or not, you have to admit WoW does have a lot content to enterain and give depth to the game to make the game replayability better than most MMORPGs are out there. I believe games like GW don't need to be on the MMORPG market because real MMORPGs have a longevity factor, which GW doesn't have.
dont listen to ppl who think it is really bad..most of those ppl probably play WoW?? most likely, or just have played the game through from start to finish many times.
Guild Wars is a good game, I've bought it, liked it, stopped playing it.
There are only 3 possible reasons I know of to quit Guild Wars.
1) Jeaulous of it being better than the game you worship and wank to. 2) The HORRENDOUS community (yes, I know there are really nice people there, but the great amount of assholes turned me off big time). 3) Missing the feeling of a MMORPG
To me 2 and 3 did it. Nonetheless, it's a great game, jsut not what I was hoping for. I'll probably come back to it eventually, cause I am starting to miss it a bit.
help!!!!!!! i was really looking forward to buying it but now i read all this tpoic and most people thinks its a shit game, so its making me not want to buy it. i thought it was a mmorpg, u play it online and u can pvp and pve.
the only mmorpg ive played are rubies of eventide and i thought that was amazing, so is it better than that, cus if so, im buying it.
oh and is there a monthly subsription, cus im not gonna pay that.
There is no subscription fee, that's why I say you should try it for yourself and see how you like it. You may end up liking it better than true MMORPGs.

or maybe I am a mmorpg fan who cant understand how this game is considered a mmorpg in the first place ...
That is because it isn't an mmorpg!
Oh sure.. one could argue that it is but after having played it I can say that it has many mmorpg elements but it is not an mmorpg...
This game is essentially one main quest with a variety of smaller side quests. All of this is so that you can lvl and enjoy the main content which is the arena fighting.
As far as the graphics... don't know why you hate them.. I feel they are THE best graphics out there... bar none.. and My main game is Lineage II.
It seems that you didn't leave the noob area,(which many love by the way) so there is so much that you havne't done... mostly the main quest and the pvp.
You can play with friends... you just have to group with them in the cities or towns. I love the skills and the fighting though I did feel that they needed more variety in the main quests as they are very linear.
Also, this is for casual gamers. Listen, if you are a WoW player and that is your preffered type of game then of course you are not going to like this game.
If you like pvp without any hassle or consequences then you might like this game.
(love the graphics... LOVE!!!)
