Not everyone has the brain power to play TSW

It's nothing to be ashamed of, TSW is a great game for people with the intuitive smarts for it. Some people just need the faceroll games like WoW, SWTOR and GW2. TSW is not a simple game, even the dungeons make you use brain power let alone some of the missions.

Bugs aside, TSW is the best mmo in years. It's different, difficult and mentally rewarding.

hopefully the five people 'smart' enough for this game can pay for the 'smart' guy who has to maintain the 1 empty server it will have.

    LOL

Elitism is ignorant. Therefore it sounds like this game will ATTRACT ignorance, not brilliance.  Pity too, as it's been one I've been watching for years and had planned on playing.  If it's going to be full of tools that think they're fecking rocket scientists....I think I'll pass.

Not sure either why it is that people are surprised that the game requires being awake to play. Ragnar Tournquist is an incredible writer and I'm sure that's reflected in the missions. That doesn't mean you need to be a genius.

Also, you clearly haven't played GW2 since you called it "faceroll."  When will people learn that when they make comments people can tell if they know what they're talking about.  If you haven't played a game and pretend you have....it's easy to discern that.

It also has static dead cities, poor animations, A soulless combat system that is completely faceroll. It's also not that difficult and if you find it is than doesn't that says more about you than everyone else.

Sounds like you been fighting a zombies in the starting zone. Go fight some Draug then rage quit. In case you can't read, many animations are still place holders. If you can read, go read the article on MMORPG, including the portions they added.

You mean like the Secret World Facebook game?  I hope you see the irony in your flame.

That is not a mmo, see the difference?

Is this post in response to people stating the game was too hard?  Or just flamebait?

Most of the complaints about the game stem from the animations, or just people tired of questing.  I don't see many 'this game is too hard' posts.

of course people may be smart enough to look up all the puzzle answeres on google

  • Dahkot72Dahkot72 Member Posts: 261

Being mentally challenging compared to other mmorpg's doesn't excuse the terrible animations and horrible combat.

They could have made both work well.

Of course , maybe the OP and others are smart at puzzles and terrible at combat in games so they dont care about that aspect , that could be the market Funcom is aiming for , and not those who are want both.

Myst fans have found their mmorpg in TSW's current form.

(still hoping they somehow fix combat/animations  before launch , but doubting it)

While I share some of the feelings you have about the game attracting a certain level of intellect it is a little insulting to see you trash players of other games so easily.

I happen to think that people who are not PATIENT will not enjoy this game. Idiots are everywhere.

The main draw of the game is the mystery. Mysteries that you can solve within the 1 hour of the game would negate the whole idea of piecing information together and solving something epic.

I haven't played it myself (I did not like the open build idea which turns into the trinity when you hit a dungeon) but I see ridiculous posts that say "quit in 2 mins" and think to myself 'Were you even listening to any of the story? Were there subtle hints that you passed off as boring quest text? Did you even try?'

Read that others enjoyed it a lot after they got past the nitty gritty of tutorial zone. I believe those.

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

    Massively... check

    Multiplayer... check

    Online...  check

Not a MMORPG but a MMO in every way.

I'll play TSW but come on, who wants all that elitism? I'll continue playing WoW, EvE, Tera, AoC, etc , etc image

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Suggest you think about how long development of an MMO is and that with 5 weeks to go you will not get any updated animations before launch. Probably more like 6 months after launch. The Draug also weren't that hard, harder yes, but not that hard. Again if you felt like ragequiting fighting them doesn't that say more about you. I didn't even have a decent build going since I just didn't bother checking which skills were good.

Oh, I'm sure the OP had to use brainpower to play this game. But I don't think that there were that many people who were forced to approach the game in a similar way, at least I wasn't.

Oh, and by the way: SW:TOR and GW2 are both harder than TSW.

With what time I spent in the beta. I have not run into one elitist yet. Infact, I ran into the opposite. When someone couldn't figure out a piece of a investigation quest, lots of people sent him a tell. They didn't give him the answer, but merely guided him with hints. That is not elitism. Elitism would be them PM'ing him about how stupid he is for not finding the answer.

Smaller communities tend to have nicer players who actually help others to build the larger community.

Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.
    Playing - PS2, AoW, GW2

Let's face it, TSW is a video game, it's not curing cancer or Rocket Science. (or doing sudoku on extreme mode)

Yes the extreme intelligence that it takes to push those 2 buttons to blast a group of zombies in the face is way beyond most of us......We'll just have to wait until Hello Kitty Online 2 comes out I guess.....

Dont forget about magic shoting guns trough people (without hurting them - only monsters), and very inteligent quests where you need to escort lonly girl throught severs full of monsters, waiting esspecialy to shred her, when she wanted to go alone.

This game is more fantasy/unrealistic than most fantasy games...

LOL brain power? Please. The investigation quests are ridiculously easy and the only thing that can make them relatively difficult is the lack of zone and lore knowledge.

Besides that, out of ~55 quests I did, only 3 were investigation, the rest were the usual kill x and deliver x types we see in other MMOs. I had to Google things twice: once to find out the length of 2 songs and once to find a Bible passage and quite frankly it was more trouble than it was worth. The rewards are severely lacking and most of the quests do not even offer any proper closure, which is especially ridiculous when you're talking about the ivestigation quests.

The first time I did an investigation quest, I thought that it was going to be epic. People were raving about them on these forums and I thought that maybe I was wrong about the game, maybe this will be it's redeeming factor. Then I finished one and I honestly said "wait, that's it?" The ending was so anti-climatic, it wasn't even funny. The quest basically ended. I don't even care about the lack of item rewards, there was no real closure to reward you for the effort. It was like "Oh, you found secret illuminati talismans? I wonder what they were up to? Well, here's some XP, run along now."

The combat is basically the same for all weapon sets. You use your resource building abilities until you accumulate 5 resources on the mob and then use your finisher move to do a lot of damage. Sounds familiar? Yes, every single weapon set has the same mechanic as a rogue in WoW. Not to mention that a lot of tier 1 skills are very similar. The other tiers may be more unique but access to them was locked, so I couldn't test them.

The only thing that requires brain power in this game is crafting and not because it's hard to figure out but because it's simply unintuitive and there is no in-game explanation.

It's funny when people say GW2 is easy... just shows how much brain power they must have in order to compare a game they have not played and know about. Oh the irony of this whole thread :)
