Tera or Diablo 3?

Relentless02Relentless02 Member UncommonPosts: 126

Payday is coming up for me and I have been itching for a new game. Played Tera Beta and loved it. Haven't played Diablo 3 at all but it looks really fun. Abybody got any suggestion that can swing me a certain way?

    Diablo 3.

    ** edit **
Even with the reports of limited game time in Diablo 3, you'll have more game time there than in Tera. Tera is 'just another MMORPG' with better combat.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

  • I haven't played TERA, so I can't vouch for that. But I will say Diablo 3 is a really great game. But you'll need a lot of time on your hands because it's super addictive.

D3 is not working, that is hahahaah, but if it was working I think D3 is better made than terra.

I tried the beta of both, with D3 i wanted to play more, with Tera I logged 45 min and just didn't like it. (the x farming mob quest)

They don't even try to hide it in tera, just go kill x number of  mob.

In d3 the gameplay (which is good in tera also) is just better, you just want to clic/combo/multi-kill.

Both have good gameplay, but i don't like D3 because of the real money auction house (Rmah) and Tera because of the quest pushing it back to the 90's.

The thing with D3 is that you don't have a go through-quest from lv 1 to 60, you have to redo again and again the same quests, but i thought it was less repetitive in D3 because of the gameplay.

But both are not that good, just wait for GW2.

    Diablow 3, it sucks ...

Since you said you loved the Tera Beta you might want to go for that, not many can say that. Just beware that the game doesn't change much up which might be good for you. D3 is not a bad game though, I'm enjoying it more than Tera but everyone has their own taste.

Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

umm gw3 thats what you need to get diablo will run out of content to fast and is over priced right now tera is ok not for me , looks great and is already out . but in a couple of months when the price drops i will be getting diablo as a 2nd game to play when i get burned out playing my main game

Diablo 3 is fun, but it just isn't a long-term game. Not enough content. What there is is good and fun, but it just isn't a huge game. Can very easily beat it in a few days playing casually.

It's pretty much the same formula as MMOs. Grind for loot till the end of world. The difference is in Diablo 3 grinding for loot is actually fun. For a lot of people Diablo is a long term game. In Diablo 2 there were rare items the likes of which you've never seen in an MMO. The drop chance on some of the most rare items was ridiculous. Also it is the PvP that will most likely prolong the life of the game.

weird combo choice, those games are nothing alike.

I'd suggest tho playing the full version of anything because you will deal with large numbers of problems with each new patch in any beta and that would totally destroy the fun.

TERA just went on sale on amazon for $25.   Diablo 3 got old after hitting level 50 3 days after release... Make your decision, but if it were up to me (Own D3, played TERA Beta)... I would definitely choose TERA.

Tera is not on sale anymore on amazon.

To the op for the topic if i had to choose between tera and D3 it would be tera. For me there is just more content in than D3. The go kill x and y quests argument i saw in a earlier post is just a bs excuse to bash game these days. All mmo haved them and these quests do the jobs. People complain about that but when dev decided to do something different the same people will still find somethings complain about.

Btw passing the same game with differents difficulties over and over is not content, i can do this 2 or 3 times at best but after that the game goes to the shelf.

When i think about it that just suck that i miss the 25$ sales!

Tera is fun if you are a PvPer imo, a bit less if you just PvE, Diablo of course is hack and slash with blizzards great production value, you could also try tochlight 2 which is fun and a bit more varied than D3 ,    So if you like PvP go Tera if you dont go D3

The thing about Diablo III that you must understand is that it's a gear grind game. That's how D2 was, and that's the main attraction of the game to it's fanbase. It's different from MMO gear grinds, however, in that the gear is completely random (as in the gear is generated with random stats) and thus obtaining the "perfect" gear for your particular build will take a huge amount of time. The upside of that is nobody ends up looking the same like in MMOs, sice even Legendary items get beated by Rare ones who roll up exceptionally good stats. Also, the gear drops randomly, thus you can't grind bosses for the best gear rather it will drop from any mob (with some more likely than others).

If you like that type of gear progression gameplay, Diablo III could keep you playing for far longer than Tera, in fact. It all depends on your taste.

I just find that Amazon will be doing it again on May 26th. I will not miss it this time;)

From what I've seen of Tera, definitely Diablo III.

They are very different games, though. Kind of a weird comparison.

  • RighteousRighteous Member UncommonPosts: 99

    Neither.

Path of Exile is better than D3.

If I were to buy a game now, buy the $15 Arma II 2-pack from Amazon and get the Day-Z zombie mod for it.

Watch a youtube video 'Day Z Mod' and you will see.

  • ZylaxxZylaxx Member Posts: 2,574

    Neither, Id go with DayZ

I like both games quite a bit, although Diablo 3 is my current baby. I will however maintain a subscription to Tera, because I expect that I'll need a break from D3 at some point.

I will also say that while I normally don't go for permadeath, full loot PvP type games, I'm tempted to buy the ArmA 2 bundle to try out DayZ. I think I'll wait for a steam sale though.

Diablo 3 is just going through hacking stuff from a top down view.

Tera supposedly has improved combat, but is just a standard mmo.  Except the graphics are amazing and I dont think anyone can deny that.

Id go with Tera if I had to choose between the two, but personally, Id go with neither.   But if you had to choose one, Id do Tera just to enjoy the combat and the beautiful graphics.  Would probably last you longer too if you stuck with it.  A lot of people have said D3 is kind of short.

He's talking about Arma 2: Combined Operations and the DayZ mod that goes with it.  Game is 30 bucks or supposedly 15 on Amazon.  Thought Id make that clear in case anyone said "Whats that?".   Also, yes, Id go with that too.  For sure.

    To OP:

If you're looking for playing a game in the long term, while paying a subscription monthly, then go to with Tera. If you're looking for something to play a lot at first, then in spurts later for free, get D3.

D3 is NOT an MMO, and will not keep your interest for long periods of time like an MMO, especially if you're mainly interested in the story, which was a tad underwhelming, and only took me about 15 hours without rushing to get through the first time. However gearing up and the other difficulties could take you months if you wanted to go nuts on D3, so if you like repeating the same content on different difficulties and getting more powerful, then that's also another plus for D3.

Tera didn't seem like a bad game, but personally, D3 is too exciting for me at the moment to bother with it. I didn't play the beta briefly before launch, and the combat is pretty cool, though the quests were generic and crappy from what I saw.

    Hmmmm!

I tried the tera beta and purchased D3..

i found both games to be pretty average.. tera got boring fast but d3 has big issues at this stage.  the forums are full of complaints about gear, classes and progression difficulties.

if I had to choose a game to play until guild wars 2 comes out, I'd go with Tera.
