What Did You Do Instead of Playing GW2?

mCalvertmCalvert Member CommonPosts: 1,283

Another thread had a good idea. Since we're all hooked on GW2, but cant play, what did you do last weekend instead? For myself, I tried out Anarchy online (horrible) and Age of Empires Online (fun but grindy). Also lost a few rounds of BF3.

I reinstalled Age of Conan to check out a few things.

My conclusion is that I prefer GW2 graphics to AoC... =P

    o.o;

It makes me long for Guild Wars 2's safe, warm embrace.

MMO's played: Ragnarok Online (For years), WoW (for a few weeks only), Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Eve, Allods, Shattered Galaxy, 9 Dragons, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Star Trek Online (Got someone ELSE to pay for it), Champions Online (Someone else paid), Dofus, Dragonica, LOTRO, DDO and more... A LOT more. I've played good AND bad. The bad didn't last long. :P

I made use if Final Fantasy XIVs "welcome back" campaign. Grinded some levels, got bored after a while, just like always ...

Mowed the lawn, got a fresh thing of propane, made tri-tip slow grilled on planks of cedar, played TF2, started a new workout thing, fed a handful of kids that definitely aren't mine, ... basic weekend stuff.  Oh, also made successfully had a gluten-free weekend. Going to give that a try.

    Oderint, dum metuant.

    Socializing in real life ;)

Also been playing the CS:GO beta a little.

I'm glad GW2 isn't out yet as I'm finishing by bachelor project this very moment and I got a fuckload of exams in June, and I'm gonna be in on vacation in the US all of July. I hope GW2 will be released early August, that would be perfect!

Played TSW and Torchlight 2. Both had open weekends. The TSW one was disappointing because Funcom only opened up like ~10 new quests, so I was done in about 2 hours.

Torchlight 2 was amazing and led me to pre-order it through Steam so that I can get Torchlight1 free. Torchlight 1 is a great game as well.

GW2 better have a beta weekend this Fri-Sun.

I finally got onto the mass effect train recently. Good fun. Diablo 3 on the top of my list atm. GW1 sometimes to build towards HoM. World of Tanks sometimes as well.

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

Oh yes, true, I tried TSW too. What I saw was enough to show me the game is similar to SW:TOR, very very linear, but way worse and without the Star Wars appeal. But it's a Funcom game, so no real surprise. I guess some people will be attracted by the "real world" setting, but that's not enough to make a MMO "good" for me. I predict another failure from Funcom.

Otherwise, I was also playing Minecraft... =P

I liked TSW's setting and the investigation quests, too bad there was only like 3 of them. The world graphics were pretty decent too. Kingsmouth had an errie feel to it, which I enjoyed.

Everything else about that game felt like a step backwards. The combat is incredibly bland and lacks impact. The animations are circa 1998 and the character models seem to be from the same era as well. The UI was absolutely horrible too. If Funcom goes through with a June 19th launch, it'll be a disaster and F2P in about a year.

Spent time with the wife and baby (as usual), studied a bit (have a test tomorrow), played TSW beta a little bit at night.

What can men do against such reckless hate?

I tried playing both Skyrim and Champions Online, but couldn't continue for more than a few minutes. They both reminded me just enough of Guild Wars 2 that it made me miss it. I think my best bet is playing something completely divorced from any resemblance to Guild Wars 2, like Portal 2 or Assassin's Creed.

I've started playing GW: Nightfall and Eye of the North to try and unlock more points for hall of monuments than just the 3 for linking the accounts (currently aiming for 10 points total because they're quite timeconsuming when starting from scratch).

Because I completely stopped gear progression raiding treadmill last year in other mmo's after having done that 4+ raidnights every week for several years, and everything else feels grindy having completed all other stuffs multiple times on several characters; I concluded that if I am to do something grindy it might as well be for unlocking some GW2 fluff goodies and feel I'm preparing for its launch  :)

Mostly single player games: skyrim, assassin's creed, batman

Multiplayer: Tribes: Ascend, LoL, sometimes PvP in Gw1.

I'm playing SWG. It's still in development and has bugs and weird mobs in the middle of cities but it has almost everything that the real one had (pre-cu) and it's keeping my mind off GW2. Honestly I've decided to even stop watching GW2 vids, it's too frustrating to not be able to play it at this point.
