I never claimed it was. However, I think it's irrelevent whether or not it's an MMO - it's competing in the same item-treadmill design, it's got a huge overlap in the player base and it changes consumer expectations. I think it's a fair question whether a significant number of MMO players, now that they've tasted an action/item game and dynamic spawns are going be able to go back and look at WoW's static design with the same enthusiasm.

Good point. In fact, we know for sure that there is at least a 1.2M player overlap (that is the number of WOW annual pass players). ALL of my WOW guild is playing D3.
In fact, what this will do .. is more MMO will move to be more like Diablo 3 .. and some MMO development may be modified to make a online RPG instead.
Sad that people would support such intrusive DRM and repetitive gameplay that insists you repeat the same content over and over again.
1) online SP game is GOOD. No cheating. I support it 100%.
2) Hmm ... not more repetition than MMO end games. Plus, the dungeons/ areas are random, and if i am having fun fighting DIFFERENT random groups, i really don't care about repeating quests.
Why would you care if someone cheats in their single player game?
If there is a chance that he or she may bring his single player character to multiplayer, then YES.

That's th eissue many have with the way it was setup. D2 had 3 versions, Single player (offline, not able to play characters from SP online), non-battle.net (tended to be full of cheaters and stuff), and the battle.net servers.
I could understand them dropping the non-battle.net stuff, but nobody can really give any valid reason for why they had to completely remove th eability to play single player offline. If people want to play single playe ronline, you were able to do that in D2 by just making a private room. But now there is no option to play while not connected to the net, or while theyhave their retardedly long weekly maintenance.
Damn right it is, some people just don't know and some just can't get themselves to play cause it's Blizzard, game is amazing and happens to be one of the funnest games i ever played....Good job Blizzard

The logic is quite simple. People are attached to their character. People do NOT want separate SP and MP characters. Thus, if you have to allow SP characters into MP games, you have to worry about cheating. Online -> kill cheating. Pretty logical to me.
I saw a thread on this site in the last two weeks that said, "only 2 million westen players subscribe to WoW now and that the rest of WoWs 10 million plus users are in the Asian Continent. And that of the 2 million Western players only a small fraction would bother to stop playing GW2 to try D3." I realize this is not a direct quote, just a paraphrase, I didn't follow the thread so I can't find it now. I may only be 88% on target with what was said in that thread, but close enough.
My point D3 is an Online game with a Massive player base. A number may be involved exclusively in solo play. While others continue to find D3's party size to be Multiplayer enough for their wants and needs. Clearly 6.3 million consumers have the confidence to return to Blizzard & D3 for their B2P action & adventure RPG fun.
Everyone who I played D1 & D2 all those years ago with and now have kids are playing D3 with the new generation. My fellow gamers who played D1 & D2 back in the day now have children and grandchildren who have grown up considering Blizzard a producer of quality products that they can count on and respect. BTW my only connection to Blizzard, I know a Guild Leader, who last I heard works for them. So an acquaintance, who is NOT a source of inside information, is my only connection.
Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.

So they say there are 2 mil subs (we know there are 1.2 mil annual pass subs), if that was true there would be much more ppl flying around on Tyrael chargers... If u look in the towns there is maybe 1 charger on every 5 players
And by the middle of next year, dozens of F2P Diablo-clones. It's becoming a new law of physics.
Eh. Not very likely. Even TL2 can't offer a lot of teh things Blizzard can like dedicated servers and auction houses. Part of D3's appeal is teh massive number of people playing and the knowledge that there will always be lots people to play with years after release.
I fail to see how "the massive number of people playing" in a game like D3 means anything. You're limited to a tiny group while actually playing, not to mention many people play solo. Is it a psychological thing?
A lot of games die out in 1-2 years. A lot. And then you won't be able to find even 3 people to party with. It has everything to do with other players because it's a multiplayer game. Before Diablo 3 (not sure now) Diablo 2 had tens of thousands still playing it after 12 years. The lasting appeal of Blizzard games is ridiculous.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
For me Diablo is great game. Not just for the fact that me and my friend were waiting for so many years for this game. But also becuse it realy is great game for me. We had lots of fun playing it last weekend with my bros. And lets be honest here.. games are all about fun (from users point of view). If you enjoy the game, you dont care if other ppl like it or not.
And the number of sold copies talks itself pretty much I think.
I think that the fact, that there are quite many ppl hating the game and have a undeniable need to tell it to everyone is a proof that we have something extraordinary here. Coz they dont do it to save your money, the just try to spred their hate.
Cant wait for another weekend to play the game.
Let the haters hate... there is no point in trying to make them change their minds.
Blizz - good work again. Thaks for another gorgeous game

hmm .. people have MULTIPLE mounts, they don't use the same one all the time. I have like 50-60 mounts and Tyrael is just ONE of those that randomly used.
I knew this games sales were going to be crazy high. I just had to laugh at the posts of people saying blizzard had put a " nail in its coffin" with this release.
And people wonder why they had server & launch problems? With around 4 mil. people logging into Bnet in the 1st 24 hours its no wonder.
So much for the doom and gloomers, most of which probably bought it anyways. With no sub fee and standing on box sales alone D3 is a crazy success. People can bitch and moan all they want, if you bought it they have your money. Its not an MMO where " I quit" really even matters. All that does is free up some bandwith on the servers lol.
Hehe diablo 3 put nails in a few coffins.. none of which belong to anything Blizzard has created.
It's all about having fun and not overthinking the "future of gaming".
A problem is that a lot of people don't think at all of the "future of gaming", they are just in for the potential fun.
I dont see this as a problem. If a game or activity is fun and worth the $ charged then I dont see a problem. One of my goals in life is to have as much fun as I can for as long as I can untill I die. If your that worried about the "future" of gaming then by all means sink all of your own money into a gaming company and try to produce something worthy of the "future". If you come up with something cool then you will make your money back - if not then you will be broke and living on the streets.
I did not buy Diablo 3 due to the simple fact that there is about 10 to 20 hours worth of non repeat content. That is not enough for me. Other than that, I played the game on one of the beta weekends and thought the game itself was fun and the content available while short was also fun. It appears that they wont be missing me as a customer though so from their end they made the right game.

Think youre kind of missing the point, if im playing SP why do i need to have it transfer to MP? It wasnt like that in D2, they were seperate. And last i checked just about every form of online game has some form of cheating wether it be hacks, bots, other 3rd party programs, etc. So no, online is far from killing cheating. MAybe you missed the thread about ONLINE D3 account sbeing hacked and items stolen.
That's what happens when you take the greatest gameplay of all time (D2) and then make it 10x better. Congratulations to Blizzard, a well deserved success!

the game is justz great. im on hell difficulty with lvl 53 and im ver ymotivated and i gladly payed 50€ for such a great game (despite launchday problems)
I just managed to convince my friends to play Lineage Eternal, they were so skeptic about top down MMO ala Diablo, but after playing it we are all looking forward to it, hopefully the genre will develop a bit more, we dont need 30million per character polys to make a nice fun game.

MSORPG.
massively single player online rpg. Hehe.
Anyways, not really surprising although that number does exceed my expectations a bit. I was thinking around 5 million sales.
Anyways, game is excellent and deserves these sales numbers.
