Now that Blizzard has started to take more and more heat, and now even having their Seoul South Korea office raided due to customer complaints over a bandwidth limit reach for the region. Do you believe that Blizzard will patch-out the DRM online only aspect of Diablo 3, or will they stand firm in their conviction that DRM online-only somehow protects the game more than it hurts it from Piracy?
Furthermore, if they DO patch-out the DRM system to allow for true offline play would they ever consider adding back in LAN play?
Thoughts ?

I think it would be a wise move....even though I want a refund for the game....I kinda regret buying it
There are times when one must ask themselves is it my passion that truly frightens you? Or your own?
They won't patch out the online only play because it would require allowing everyone who's playing the game to run their own server. The game isn't 'locked', a good portion of the game runs somewhere else.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Doubtful.
Not likely they will decide to do so because of the moneyz.
Not likely that they are actually capable of creating a compact "server", i would guess the game runs on some distributed wow java variation software.
Given what i know now, after playing it, solo (read: without the ah) would be a dreadful experience.
Flame on!
It takes some time. D3 is a server based game right now.
If i had not received this game as a gift, i would not even bother, let alone buy it.
Its just terrible, the random loot is awful, the story is just a rehash of D2, and the leveling is pointless. I feel like the entire game is just grind and grind.
I am sure there are quite a few who disagree with me, but Blizzard gets a hufe "F" from me on Diablo 3.
Seriously, anyone else think that the big RPGs devs decided to just make crap games this year ? SWTOR, Diablo3,and while its not going to be released this year Bethesda annoucing ESO with all its apparent flaws just screams bad.
I guess i got 2 games comingthat i hope will supply me with the kind of experience i am looking for. Not gonna say which 2 because it tends to enflame haters just mentioning them.

Nope the DRM is their baby and they want it to be their next money maker. They are going to do everythig they can to make it work and successful. Once they prove we will blindly waste money on these items and gold other companies are going to follow.
Short answer is: No...

OP doesn't know what DRM means.

Not very likely to happen imo. The vast majority of the loud "masses" will probably settle down very quickly when the problem goes away (I kinda assume that it WILL go away, otherwise they're screwed).
It seems to be some sort of long-term-memory deficiency: lots of people rage and swear off some company or similar, then almost all of them immediately buy the next shiny thing as soon as it gets released.
I'm not entirely sure they could even if they wanted to.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
While I do agree there seems to be some sort of "memory issue" with customers nowadays. Personally, my family hasn't bought a single product from Blizzard ever since Activision bought Blizzard. So I DO think there is a large portion of the market that were interested in Diablo 3 before the DRM & RMAH were announced, and then swore it off their checklist. That's what it feels like, anyways.

Ah so you've bought every single Blizzard game.. cus Blizzard have yet to be "bought" by activision.
They wouldn't make money on it so no. It's all about the money.

You dont know what DRM means. Every DRM game up until D3 has been cracked with a server masking file showing that all game info is client side...D3 may be different with more information server side...but that doesnt mean that "DRM" cannot be removed...just that D3s cannot because its a different type of DRM.

No, they won't.
Go search the official forums, blues have already spoke up on the matter.
They won't (which is sad since it is the main reason for me not trying the game).
Two things to take into consideration.
First, the always online thing It's not just DRM, if it was that then the game would be available on pirate torrent sites by now. Diablo 3 works more like an MMO, where a significant portion of the game experience (like dungeon layout, location of monsters and loot and the like) is generated server side, the code to do all that isn't even included in the game client, changing that would be a significant rewrite of the game, and probably for nothing when it comes to the South Korea situation because:
Two, the SK investigation is NOT about needing to be online to play single player, it's about whether Blizzard launched the game knowing that the servers would not be able to handle the demand (having an offline SP mode would do nothing because the investigation is about both SP and coop) and because Blizzard isn't providing refunds for keys that were already in use when the SK law demands companies to give them if the costumer requests it within 7 days of purchase and the reason they use to ask for that refund isn't their fault (meaning, not being able to play the first few days).
What can men do against such reckless hate?
At this point, I think that they should if it is technially possible without a bunch of cash being spent. They've sold 7million copies so I don't think that piracy will be as big of an issue now. And if they set it up so that if you do choose to play offline, you can never take that character online, the RMAH will still be secure.

It's not possible. Even in single player, your actions are handled server-side. It would be like asking for an offline mode in GW1. They would have to rewrite a significant portion of the game engine.
If they had put a different spin on the entire thing, people would be praising the game for not having a monthly fee instead of complaining that it's always online.

Enemy and loot data is stored in server side not client.
I doubt they'll rewrite the game.
It is what it is and with 6.3 Million sold, I doubt Blizzard is hurting by this.

No cause of RMAH.
They want as much people to using RMAH and to draw casual players to occasional RMAH as well, so nope.
Game is designed around AH / RMAH and that's why online-DRM + many game mechanics exist in shape and form they do.
Well that's it unless Acti-Blizzard would have to return money for like 10% + copies sold & pay fines to variuous consumer agencies - which is very unlikely.
RMAH

What you guys still fail to understand is that this is not DRM in the traditional sense of the word.
It may have one similar effect to drm, however it is a different beast altogether.
This game is structured like an mmo from the ground up. Do you think they will be patching the same "DRM" out of WoW any time soon?
Haha. It's a laughable idea when you think of it likethat.
The answer is no.

While I wish this game had an offline mode, they've kinda commited themselves down a path that's kinda difficult to turn back from. I don't see them doing this anytime soon.
However, I think they are going to have a hard time justifying this business decision going forward. So far the DRM / AH has done absolutely nothing to deal w/ the problems they claimed it would fix. There are still gold farmers, accounts are still being hacked, and the game has already been cracked. I haven't seen rampant duping yet, but I'd only give it a matter of time before that starts to appear as well.
does the crack let you play offline?
I never used pirate stuff before, but i might make an exception for D3, seen as ive paid for a game i cant bloody play half the time.
No there are no Cracks, Hacks or Magical Sparkle ponies that will let you play Diablo 3 offline, any that claim they do are just viruses and other nasties. Sure the Game is up on Torrents sites but withot a Bnet account that had diablo3 activated on all you'll get is the login screen.
