Best FREE mmo's around (and worst)

Here is a list of the best FREE mmorpg's around. not in order of best to least.

#1) Conquer Online - This game is best for community. The guild systems are very good, and each guild is like a family. The item-crafting/upgrading system is SUPER easy to understand, and makes your character much much better if you +1, +2, +3 ect. ect. your items. Sever maintainance is a problem, but downtime is only about 15 - 25 min's each time, every other night or so, around 8:00 Central U.S. time. Pk'er's (Player Killers) are allowed, on every map (just not in town, on account that the guards will kill you). But there ARE consequences, such as going to jail if you are killed while black-named (if you are a mass-pker) and also every high-lvl'd player will hunt you down. There is a re-born system, which is very difficult to do, but worth it.

#2) ROSE online - This game has good graphics, unique characters/clothing, very good market system (users can post on thier personal shop what they want to buy, and other players can just drag and drop, selling what they have to you). The game isn't very friendly (such as if you ask for assistance, or just try and chat, many if not all will ignore you). The best facts are that it is 3d, dynamic camera/view system, and easy to understand. Downsides are A) support is non-existant, and B) the game is in closed-beta at the moment.

#3) Gate To Heavens - VERY good game, (for being free). Graphics and sound are excellent, but the quest system and travel are a little tiresome. plus it's full of immature little kids on weekends.

#4) MU online - This game looks promising. But personally, i couldn't even play, because of all the lags, disconnections, and freeze-ups. Made a character and moved 3 steps, that was all the action i got. Servers are jammed, and you need a pretty decent computer to run the game well. So for all you state-of-the-art gamers, check it out.

WORST GAMES EVER.

#1) Runescape - This game is the scourge of all mmorpg's. Gameplay is a joke, everyone looks the same, barely ANY items to choose from, graphics are terrible, and it is absolutely over-run by little 10 - 14 year old kids. It doesn't even fall into a category, it isn't Fantasy, War, Stratagy, nothing. It's just a game that should be boycott'ed.

#2) Rubies of Eventide - This game looks promising from the beginning. There are LOADS of class/speacialties to choose from, so the funnest part about the game is making a character. After that, you come to find out that it's SOOOO slow moving, turn-based, and you must use the keyboard to move. Plus the territory/scenery is juvenile, all flatlands, sparse vegitation, and creatures appear only when you get so close you can touch them, just popping out of nowhere. It's a wasteland, and a waste of time and energy to download.

#3) MythWar - Characters are all the same looking, overhead view is too small and confining, Battle sequences are simular to the Final Fantasy games, but in a child-like version. Quests are confusing, Manual doesn't explain anything, game chat is a pain and gets in the way, and it's all but impossible to get item drops from battles!!. I played this game for 2 hours, hoping it would get better, but I i was completely wrong. Don't waste your time.

    anways Runescape does suck. I got bored of it in about an hour.

    Runescape isnt that bad. This seems to be just your opinion.
    My opinion is that runescape is a decent game, bad graphics, decent community, decent quests, easy, although still a bit challenging in some areas. Anyway its a good game, if the graphics were better it would be amazing.
    You should get some posts to join this thread then you will be able to get other peoples opinions on the Games you listed.

    Truthfully, runescape does suck. Any game where a certain setup is the best, does suck. period.

    IMHO Runescape isnt that bad at all, there have been a lot of cool updates recently, new items 'n stuff, some decent stuff.

     

    I do however agree that the graphics could be much, much better :D image

    I think that Runescape is very good and much better than Rose, the quests on runscape are far better than Rose's and there is about 110,000 people playing at one time.image

    ROSE Is not free but if you do have a fileplanet subscibed account you get 1 free beta account like I have. I do not think the game is that good though.

    I have been in a search for a good free MMORPG to go along with EQ2. I have played most (haven't played Conquer Online yet having download problems). So, far Rose is the best free MMORPG IMHO.

    Conquer Online is crap. Another grind fest of a game. quests? very pitiful. The absolutely only reason to play that game is to get max lvl and pvp, which really has no point. you don't get anything for doing it. Someone said GTH had immature little kids that played it, well, i've played both. And CO by far has many many many more immature kids playing, tons of griefers, unbalanced classes (if you decide to play, do not be a warrior if you want to pvp, they are the absolute worst class to play, although if your new, you never really know it till you get to around lvl 80). I wasted too much of my time playing that game, it was fun for a short while. Mainly when it was in beta, then when they started selling DB's it just got stupid. Became a game for rich little kids who want an easy ride to the top. IMO GTH is a hell of a lot better than CO, besides the server lag. After playing CO, i swore off non-p2p games.

    Personally as free mmorpg's go i liked tibia, good comunity. excellent quest system, due to a new introduction last update there are hardly anymore macroers. you can also choose a server that fits you, theres non pvp, skull system pvp and pvp enforced (no reprocussions at all for killing) also newer servers have less people but items are more expensive while old servers are the opposite (there are currently 66 servers) the graphics are good but not 3d rendered or nething.

    Ultima online it has tons of free servers so u can choose one u like.

    P.S. ultima online free server 6214 people online =)).

    • i love gunbound is so addictive its not even funny and instead of Gunz i would say Rakion^^ but yeah back to the topic i used to play runescape when i was like 13 i mean its ok when ur a young one and know nothing about MMO's and the graphics used to b even worse than wut they r now so i think they r trying to make things better the community is awesome cept for in the wildernessimage but yeah good game
    • ROSE online is an awesome game i have been playing it for a while and it is a great game i do agree about the community and the scammers (thos damn ppl who buy jam +5 for like 100 gold) but i do like the quests and lvl'ing isnt too hard imageimage

    The only reason that a lot of ppl play runescape is because its firsy choice when u type in free mmorpg in google. btw which is better martial heroes, rubies of eventide, knights online or gate to heaven tell me if there r any beter ones

    Oh my God, I can't believe you just said Runescape is better than Rose..... that comment means that EVERYTHING you say is garbage.

    Rose, although boring, is still polished and well done and may be appeal to certain folkse.  Runescape just plain sucks on all levels.

    sheesh....

    I don't know where else to go, you see I want to try Gate to Heavens REALLY bad, now here comes the frustrating part(s) I have it downloaded installed and all that Jazz registered and everything is goig great, I type the information in where it tells me to in the game launcher to get the game started and BAM this error popped up. "! An error has occured in the script on this page

    And no matter which one a click, when I do it again the excact same error comes up, it's so frustrating, and now comes the good part, I can't sign up for the forums for that game it just won't let me get past a part as in I press submit and the page refreshes, NOTHING else happens. So I have to come here for help, god help me PLease?image

    ROSE isn't free, it's just in closed beta. It's made b Gravity, of which their previous game, RO, costed p2p if that gives you any clue.

     Well I know some folks might not consider ShotOnline a mmo. Since Rubies of eventide is on the list of worst and that game can only had about 100 people at a time.

     I think ShotOnline is one of the best free MMO and it is a one of a kind game.

    Even if the company had billions, that game is trash. It held my attention for 3 minutes.

    Ok... that's your opinion. I found it a great escape and the quests were quite fun.

    In the end, it was the incessant name calling, scamming, etc. that drove me to better things. (EQ)
