Did you go to E3?  I heard it has gone from four rooms down to two rooms.  Worst E3 in years as far a content.  Plus, since some companies didn't come and they had too much floorspace with only two room, they gave deals  for biggger spaces for those who did attend.  Resulting in large but sparse demo spaces.

Also, much less opportunies to demo games based on the number of demo systems on the floor.

A lot of ums, ahs and stuttering.  I'm afraid this one needed a reshoot.

I got to do a 30 minute Neverwinter dungeon crawl as a "control" mage with a couple others from our team at the show.  It was a LOT of fun.  Personally looking forward to Neverwinter, ESO and PS2.

I'm looking forward to NWN.  Loved CoH/ CoV, not so much CO, and I didn't even give STO a shot.

I still think you're being to lenient on ESO.  It may well be a great game, but that doesn't excuse them for making an ES mmo that's not like an ES game, and that doesn't mean a "skyrim online".  There is a world of difference between a "typical MMO" and an ES game.

There is no "proper way" to make an MMO, and that's the gist of what ZeniOnline is telling us for why they're making ESO the way they are.  You guys praised EVE online for not being a typical MMO, but you're giving ZeniOnline a pass for turning a great sandbox RPG into a typical MMO.  That makes no sense to me. :(

This video needs some background music. Then it would be great

Seems a show and prices for publisher and developers, really not for gamers.

And it's simple: Trion World (The Rift is one of wortest MMO ever), Cryptic Studios (City of WHAT?) and many, many crappers developers and publisher win a price or a nominee (innovative Pirates 101? OMG) (or Sqaure Enix: the big FFXIV failure? And someone remember Fantasy Earth?).

Well, the only one of the bouchet is Elder Scroll Online. should be a great game (public dungeons like DAoC, EQ and other golden age MMOs! Ayeppaaaaaaaa!). Orther titles are marketing, not games for gamers or games for a price. No other good MMOs @ E3? No prices, it's simple.

How is combat? Something more involved would be fantastic in another Dungeons and Dragons game. I have a lot of respect for Turbines DDO for trying something slightly different. I even enjoyed it.

What really set Turbines game apart though were the traps and platforming moments. If you ask me, not enough games have them. I remember at one point someone, another player, pulling a lever that caused the ice below me to break, causing me to fall into the water below.

Neverwinter is going to fail, STOP before you go herpia derpia troll.  Take into account the people who are making the game and publishing it.  That is not a track record of "for the player", its a track record of max profit minimum work. They hook you in with something cool then once you  dive all in you find out its shallow water.

PS2 could go either way given Sonys track record but i am hoping for the best; over the years they have shown signs of moving forward unlike EA who thinks were all stupid little sheeps.

Would have assumed  Otherland for most innovative or at least nominated but owel

  • Opt1kalOpt1kal Member UncommonPosts: 1

And Tera wasn't mentioned anywhere? Honestly, kind of suprised about that. Some of the games mentioned do deserve their awards, but Neverwinter just looks like a recycle to me. Defiance does take the cake for Most Innovative though.

Overall not bad choices in the awards, just a little suprosed Tera wasn't in there.

Planetside 2 will probably be an awesome game, but SOE will nickel and dime the fun out of it.  It wouldn't suprise me if you had to pay real money just to get certain skills to pilot certain vehicles...plus the subscription...sounds like something SOE would do.

You should just say some of  the best games instead of trying to pawn off some of them as MMO's

As for ESO, I'm having trouble understanding how someone can relate the brand to the product that's being shown. The only variables they share are in name alone, so if people are getting excited by what the newest themepark garbage is referred to, color me depressed. Still, I understand your point and I think it's valid.

I understand your concern. I shared it. But I really do think it looks like an excellent MMO so far, and everyone there for MMORPG did as well. And we were all skeptics.

Honestly Bill, I have never seen this site post a negative preview about a game.  Every game you guys have ever previewed is given a positive spin.  Dont expect us to get all excited over another glowing preview and if Neverwinter turns out to be another CO or STO, I hope you are ready to eat some crow after the hype you have given it.

Well, since he only listed a few of the many games presented at E3, wouldn't that be a 'negative' by omission for those that didn't make the vid in some respects?

Besides, this is more of a promotional site and always has been - don't you see the ads on this site? Ad money runs dry when you become a critique site.

As a promotional site, don't be surprised if they follow the biggest titles closely and tread lightly out of respect to not offend the constituents of this site who happen to want info about certain games you may not like. What if they started a heavy critique of your favorite game? May not come here that often anymore.

no offense to you bill, but you're sorta.. boring to listen to. this is your job isn't it? why not at least pretend you're interested in what you're reporting, and display a little bit of energy? nobody enjoys listening to a monotoned speach.

  • spookydomspookydom Member UncommonPosts: 1,782

Best one yet. The sound is so much better this week. Good work.

no offense to you, but you're sorta... annoying to read. You did this so someone would read it other than Bill, right? (cuz you didn't pm him). why not at least pretend you actually know how to critique politely, and display a little bit of courtesy? Nobody enjoys reading a snarky rant.

I felt like I got info about games I'd like to know more about, and was exposed to games I would now like to know more about. Well done Bill.

Wargaming.net had some really interesting things to say about their f2p MMOs (World of Tanks/Warplanes Battleships) at E3 this year.

Check out this interview with them discussing their Universal Game Platfome as well as their MMO trilogy.

I was BCD with ESO, it's garbage, shouldn't be on any best of lists ever.  Maybe worst of lists.

I assume you're talking about Neverwinter, which I played at the show, because I was BCD with ESO and it looks and feels like garbage so I'm curious if we saw the same presentation.  Especially in light of GW2, Neverwinter, Tera and all the other MMOs like it on the horizon, ESO might be heading toward them, but it's a huge step backwards from its IP.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of TES but it is obvious they have cut so many corners and watered down almost everything good about the IP to fit into a typical MMO mold instead of what they could have done: a AAA sandpark Darkfall/Mortal-esque MMORPG that would blow all other games out of the water.  As an MMO it's "fine," "mediocre," "passable" but as a TES game, even a spin-off, it looks like utter cash-in trash.

So, what would be your picks then? ;)

I would rather leave spots empty than fill them with titles that I thought were an afront to the genre, but that's just a personal perspective, and obviously one that isn't shared.

Can you imagine putting forward a website that covers the E3 and coming back home to your website's fan base and stating that there will be no annual award article because you do not deem any of this years nominees worthy of you opinionated mmorpg taste? Neither can I...and with all due respect...maybe that's why you don't run a website? Just a thought. If you HAVE to choose a winner I'd rather they try to make it seem like they are checking out these new mmorpgs even if I likely will not.
