"Everything is zerging" -- This is only true if you consider a zerg to be any large collection of players. To me, a zerg is any group of players that just spams attacks and steamrolls everything. Zerging, by this definition, is impossible in WvWvW (you will just get destroyed by siege equipment) and in PvE it depends on the DE. Having said that, what were some of you expecting playing with large groups of players to be like? Is there any reference of a game involving dozens and dozens of players that doesn't result in chaotic gameplay?

In GW2 I changed servers because there were to many people running around and all the pve content was just a stupid zerg. It was one of the worst pve experiences i've had. However when I got onto a server where I was doing all the content solo it was lame to be alone, but at least the pve was fun.
The GW2 threads are just getting old. "Defend your positive opinion of GW2" and "defend your negative opinion of GW2"....blah blah blah. How about this.....I don't have to defend my opinion to any yayhoo on a web forum. If I like or dislike a game I'm free to just DO that without having to give anyone a "reason" for it. Forums are great for sharing opinions except when they become a big competition where you're "required" to take it as seriously as a debate. Sometimes I just like something and don't have any great debatable points about it. Sometimes I DON'T like something and I don't feel a need to justify that to a bunch of strangers.
This is why I do more reading than posting lately. I'm tired of debating. I just want to enjoy the little bit of this hobby that is LEFT to enjoy. I don't feel like arguing about it for days and pages on end. Just my opinion, of course.

Great job at comparing a level 65+ zone to level 1-10 content in GW2. It gets much more difficult and interesting later on, that is for sure. The beginning zones are most definitely pretty zergy feeling, but the bosses and fights gets much harder later on.
The fact we have hardly grazed the surface of the PvE content and are already comapring it to end game raid content in other games is just silly.
If you don't like GW2 then just go to GW2 Guru. For a supposed fan site I have never seen so many negative remarks in one place. I guess that has something to do with Curse.com taking over recently. Thats the place to go for no raiding QQ and what not. I for one cannot wait for the official forum boards to open up.

Or some other ungodly feature they had in the last WOW clone they played.

Exactly. I really don't care if someone else doesn't "approve" of my opinion. They can just not play the game. I sure won't be missing them.
Don't you ever feel like that your desire to be "the hero of the world" clashes with your immersion in MMORPGs?
Immersion doesn't work that way for people in most MMORPG's, because it is not the task of video games to become, well, a "life is unfair" simulator. Most people play games for fun, escape, cooling off, so that element is one of the first that goes out the window. We do not lose immersion because we become the hero. While extreme realism can be fun for many people, it's a bit abnormal, since there's plenty of in real life as it is.
I wonder though how many people feel like you in that aspect. Perhaps the majority are happy with just being a member, socializing, going on adventures without ever feeling like being the "hero of the world"; at least that is what I've always suspected.
I think people are OK with being all-right and not necessarily heroes of the world, but many sandbox MMORPG's go as far as to make a new player a complete nobody and keep him a complete nobody for a really long time. Some people do not enjoy being bossed around much, they want to be in control and want the game to allow for their expression.
If a person wants to build a house, but it's impossible to build a house alone, and they are forced to go help someone else build their stupid house or not build it at all, well, you see where that's going.
You can have control to a certain extent and allow their personal expression to a certain extent without resorting to the trick of making everyone "The hero of the world" with emphasis on "The". I think it is okay if people feel like they matter as long as it doesn't lead to a lore contradiction. The lore shouldn't tell the player that he is unique in that he is the one capable of saving the world and then repeat the same story to every player in the game.
There are other approaches which do not necessarely lead to a contradiction. One way is to tell every player that there is a war going on , that it is their duty to fight back a certain faction and that every man counts. In other words: while you may not be the hero with big "the", you still matter and you are still needed.

I don't think you would miss a lot of strangers who do agree with your opinion, either. That is the nature of being a stranger.
This thread is specifically for people who DON'T like GW2. I'm hoping to gain some understanding in a few areas. Primarily, what is it you don't like about the game? Explanations in most other threads don't go far beyond "the questing system is the same" or some similarly vague responses. Obviously I'm a fan of the game (as you could probably tell by my signiture). Many of the complaints don't make sense to me right now. Here are some examples.
"The combat isn't that innovative". -- So you would prefer to have stagnant combat?
"The quests aren't innovative" -- So you would prefer a normal quest system rather than dinamic events?
"The quests have the same objectives as in other MMO's (Gathering, killing, etc)" -- These are the only objectives you can possibly have in a video game. Some form of killing, gathering, solving, or protecting. All objectives in every game revolve around doing one of those four things. What other objectives were you looking for?
"Everything is zerging" -- This is only true if you consider a zerg to be any large collection of players. To me, a zerg is any group of players that just spams attacks and steamrolls everything. "The trinity isn't actually dead" -- This is one of the more stunning complaints. Not once throughout my experience did I ever sit in town or have to wait for a group, much less a specific class. In fact I roamed the countryside with a full group of thieves and we did great.
"The game is Pay 2 Win" -- How? Every item in the cash shop is completely anti-P2W. Would some of you prefer to pay a subscription fee rather than have a cash shop with completely optional items? If so, explain why.
More specifically, for any reason you may have I'm looking for what you were expecting it to be like and some reference of a game (out or even in development) that seems to do it better. Go crazy .

- DE's are the next big thing in MMO history. all future MMO's without DE's will be subpar.
Same things were said about rift and war.
True, although both implemented it poorly. in WAR, PQs felt like a last0minute addon to the noraml quest hub/wow experience. Rift wasn't a bad idea, but the invasion part tends to cripple underpopulated zones, and woe betide anyone trying to level in them. The events in GW2 feel like they're a integrated part of the experience, and rather than punishing you for failing them they actually often give rise to new events. Sometimes I WANTED to fail an event in BWE, just to see what would happen.

Disliking obsessive hype is a valid reason to feel less excited about a game. Just read hyping comments such as
"Yet again ArenaNet shows why it is superior to other MMO developers and why GW2 will be the best MMO on market once it goes live, be happy ppl the new age of MMOs is coming, no more EQ/WoW clones !!!!"

1. I really don't like the "we quest in the presence of others, but don't actually group or are held accountable for our actions"
2.The rabid nature of fans really turns me off of this game, What happends if i start playing? the community is going to sound like a bunch of cultists"everything is fine, untill you say something bad then you are exiled"
3. It seems overly casual. and thats fine it just doesnt gel well with me at this point in time.
4.Its not the pinicle of mmorpg gaming. Its just a game. dont compare every game to it.

With all do respect, if your tired of debating then a forum is not the right place for you. This is also not a "defend your opinion" thread. It has been thoroughly derailed to my great dismay. Although I could have guessed it would happen. I did get a couple pages in the beginning that actually answered the original post and even followed its questions. Still I am left wanting in terms of understanding what it is exactly people want or what other games, out or in development, do anything better than GW2.
No, you don't have to defend your opinion. To show up in a thread asking for specific negative critiques of the game to post something about not sharing your critiques is thoroughly off topic, however.

Thank you for your response . Again, I ask that for any system in the game you do not like please try to correct the system (In other words, tell us how you'd prefer it to be) and try to label a game either out or in development that does it better than GW2.
1. You can group if you want but is this not how every MMO works? Please elaborate and provide a system of your own that you would prefer instead of GW2's system and any game out or in development that does it better than GW2.
2. The community is not like it is here. The MMORPG.COM community is about .3% of the total GW2 population. Do not take what you see here to heart. That being said I can't really take that as a critique of the game because you haven't actually seen the GW2 community. Its kind of like visiting the slums of a country and claiming that the whole country consists of murderers and thieves, no?
3. I can understand that, again though please try to be a little more specific (what features in particular don't you like and what game does it better).
4. I'm a little thrown off balance by this statement. We don't really know what it is as its not out yet. To truly progress and recieve better games we must compare each game to all of its predecessors. This is also not really a critique but a general statement?

Of course. Sadly, only about 2% of the total replies have answered the posed questions and provided games that do it better while explaining a system they would prefer in its place.
This is not really the thread to just drop by and say "I love this game" or "I hate this game". This is the thread to provide specific examples and how you'd hoped they would be and what game is doing it. Its not about attacking or defending the game. You needn't attack or defend a video game. Anet can fight its own battles. I just want to hear specific opinions using facts while providing clear examples of a system that would be better and a game that incorporates, or promises to, said system.
some of you are actually keeping it on topic. To those of you, thank you.
We all know Arena Net doesn't listen to it's forums all too much. I mean look how they did small minor updates monthly in the GW1 franchise. :P
That being said...you have to remember. These guys don't like to change stats or gear or content unless it's absolutely- positively-required.
This is off-topic. As well as factually false. There are countless examples of them listening to their forums consistantly. In fact, I would venture to say they are the leading company in this regard.
Your second statement has no weight to it. That could almost be seen as a critique, in a way, but still it is lacking most of what the thread asks for.
Specific examples, how you would think it should work, and a game that does it better. As your critique lacks all three of those outlined it only states a superficial opinion and is not factual at all.

I specifically want gear and or buffs in the cash shop. I don't want freeloaders mixed and mingled in my MMO. They will be like a plague everywhere wanting more and more for free and will bring the sense of community down.
Having things like a cash shop and things needing to be purchased that alone will help to curb the ad nausem back and forth "ban attempts" (aka reporting) of players...because they will have staked more into the game then a one-time "rinse off" fee.

I have no desire to be the hero in a mmo. When I play a srpg I expect it and want it, but in a mmo it is lame. I think it would be awesome to see hero's though. Like a single player or a really dedicated party get to do some heroic content that actually shapes the world. I don't need to play it because a mmo to me is a alternate world that you exist in, and everything in that world doesn't have be focus on me.

Good point. I've fealt the same way many times.

The only reason I bought this game was because I liked the B2P business model, adn wanted to support it. The game itself is just meh, seen the stuff done before in other games.

Thank you . Though you didn't provide a game that does it better I know of some that do what you describe better than GW2, being that in GW2 there is no meaningful gear up in the cash shop and no long term buffs (aside from the experience booster).
I'm going to assume your being completely serious with your post and you really do want to be able to purchase these things in the cash shop (its an unpopular opinion so it can be hard to tell if someone is being satirical or serious).
If so, I understand why you would not like the way GW2 does it.

Just like it's easy to ignore the little flaws and fully appreciate the positives.
As with all things - people tend to see what they want to see.
Dynamis in FFXI - 64 players with coordinated game play.

God that is the truth, I cannot get over the amount of threads demanding we defend not having raids.
Or some other ungodly feature they had in the last WOW clone they played.
Exactly. I really don't care if someone else doesn't "approve" of my opinion. They can just not play the game. I sure won't be missing them.

Same things were said about rift and war.

Thank you so much for this thread, it brings to light the lack of any serious conversation any of the hater threads have. you did forget one tho. that's the all too often posted H word, Hype. People with no other REAL arguments post this constantly on these threads because they really can't find any real fault with the game.

We all know Arena Net doesn't listen to it's forums all too much. I mean look how they did small minor updates monthly in the GW1 franchise. :P
That being said...you have to remember. These guys don't like to change stats or gear or content unless it's absolutely- positively-required.

[mod edit]
Feel free to post but please include a specific example of a system you don't like in GW2, a way in which you thought it would be, and a game either out or in development that does it better. Anything short of that is off-topic.
