and thats my second problem with subscription games. Cash shop? id be happy to buy that nice flame horse for $25 if there was no subscription. Enjoy your horse... edit: and your sub
The horse isn't for you.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Whenever I see someone on these cash shop $25 mounts I just roll my eyes. Congratulations guy, you just became a loser in a world pupulated by nerds, geeks and basement dwellers! :-D
What's the point of having a spiffy mount to show off to your friends if you didn't EARN IT IN GAME?
Kinda hypocritical isn't it? MMORPGs ooze nerdism and yet here we are discussing animated horses.
I think what they meant was in a land full of nerds, geeks etc. they are at the bottom of the bottom being a loser....
$25 bucks thats what wow sold that poney for and what most mounts cost in eq2 and lotro, once you do that cash/coin conversion.
yea just saw that,, man can't beleive people pay that much for mounts.. i thought $10 for one in Rift was little much but guess it's a damn good bargain compared to the rest.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

I play TERA, and while I might pay 5 bucks for something like this, no way am I going 25, esp since there's nothing superior about its stats.

25 for a mount, in a pay to play game. Yeah, WoW did it, but WoW is bloody huge and their return on the item would be much greater than Terra's. Just because a bigger game did it, doesn't mean it's a great idea to follow.
I just can't see buying the game for 40 bucks, then paying 15 a month to keep playing it. And now, the company wants to make... even more money on their paying customers? Yes, the item isn't required for anything but don't ya think items like this should be... cheaper than the monthly fee?
It's 15 bucks a month... a mount comes along and costs ten dollars more than a MONTH of game time? That just seems silly.
personally i would be embarrassed to purchase one with people knowing people would be thinking i was a right chump for buying one,but eh who am i to say anything.
personally i would be embarrassed to purchase one with people knowing people would be thinking i was a right chump for buying one,but eh who am i to say anything.
Amen. I can't believe someone would buy this and not think the same thing.
First the vast majority of humans on the planet would think it's stupid to pay a monthly fee to play a video game to begin with , but most of you think that's ok because you feel it's worth it , but bash on someone spending something else because you think it's not. Might want to back up a bit on that.
Second , how many of you have taken your wife/husband and two kids to a movie lately and not gone cheapo - in other words you let them get their own drinks , popcorn etc and enjoy the night ?
100 bucks - period - you can't do it for less than 25 a person for that 2.5 hours if everyone gets just a drink and one candy or popcorn -
Point ? Money is relative and situational , to a professional with a good income spending 25 dollars on something like this if its what they enjoy is as easy as dropping a hundred at the theater for the family - (not mentioning the 100 just spent at dinner -etc )
Might just want to realize that to some its worth it - to others its not -and nothing wrong with buying it or not but bashing on folks for spending X amount on something they enjoy if they have the income is fairly ridiculous.
There is nothing nightmareish of that mare at all. I have seen scarier things come from MLP. Why fire hooves. Its so creative.... bleh... would have prefered i donno somthing more intimidating.
The mount is available at lvl 1, which might persuade some people to buy it for that reason alone, not to mention the hooves are on fire and scorch the earth as you ride into the sunset grinding away endless hours leveling.
Why did a horse with its feet on fire become such an industry standard for MMORPGs?
Is it really that unified of a thing considered by nerds to be "awesome"?
Well, it goes back a ways. Henri Fuseli painted a work titled "The Nightmare" and it had both an incubus and a ghostly horse. Nightmare's direct etymology translates to incubus, and it was believed that an incubus would come at night and make you sufforcate in your sleep.
What does that have to do with a horse? Well, Mr. Fuseli thought it would be clever to make a play on words by including a mare (female horse) in his nightmare. Haha, very funny right? Exactly.
But, it stuck! And over time the imagery of the horse evolved and became more associated with the nightmare than the incubus which fell by the wayside. With the introduction of D&D and the monster manual, it was officially added to fantasy canon as a neutral evil creature of black and flame.
The majority of fantasy creatures were either taken directly or adapted from various mythologies around the world. I'd say this is one of the reasons the fantasy genre maintains it's stronghold over the market. People have a connection to it. It's not real, but it used to be real in the minds of people in our world's past. Kinda interesting.
So anyway, that's why you see fiery horses in fantasy games. Not because they're particularly awesome, but they are a staple of the genre.
And now for something completely different. To those who say pay $25 for a virtual item is stupid; how is it any more stupid than any other form of temporary entertainment? It aall comes down to what you individually place value in.
I would say that a large number of people are willing (and eager) to lay down $40-$80 to watch a bunch of fat men on steroids try to hit a ball for 4 hours while consuming overpriced tasteless domestic beer and hot dogs. At least a virtual mount lasts a lot longer.
Obviously I don't see any value in going to a baseball game, but the people who do don't have a problem shelling out the money for it. I'm not sure why games are any different, both are just forms of entertainment.

I understand that some may place some value in it (.00000001% of the playerbase)...I think most of us just don't understand it. The overwhelming majority of sane human beings don't give two sh*ts about a cosmetic horse. Are there other horses/mounts in the game? Maybe if this was the only mount available would the buyer not be deemed completely insane.
Quite frankly, I'll buy it and not give a damn what you people think about it.
Support the game or shut up about it. Simple. ;D

I do not play Tera...I have no interest in Tera....but games need more players like this. Play what you like, enjoy what you play and ignore those who try to tell you what you're "supposed" to play because theirs is "better".
personally i would be embarrassed to purchase one with people knowing people would be thinking i was a right chump for buying one,but eh who am i to say anything.
Amen. I can't believe someone would buy this and not think the same thing.
I can't believe someone would put so much weight on what some faceless person on the internet thinks. Thank god I don't live my life by what someone else thinks. Be an individual. Grow some balls.

oh dear
Looks like a nice mount but it seems like a cash grab to me which is a real shame.

What a fracking rip off.

Doesn't this game have a subscription fee? Pay for Elin Censorship and a cash shop.

I would rather pay for housing feature than some lame horse skin.
All I can say about this is thank goodness it isnt faster than the lion.
If it were say speed 350 then I would not be happy about it.

Milking every last drop from those oblivious to the fact TERA is a sinking ship. Dirty cash grab is dirty.
