For me personally, I believe it is.

First of all, I don't play *that* much, so it won't be like I'll have completed it all in one month.

Secondly, I just think TSW got something special about it - it'll be a game, that I'll keep coming back to, to see what they've added since last time. I'll probably have a lot of breaks. I usually can't play a game for many months in a row. But usually, when I'm done with a game, I'm done for good. I think it'll be different with TSW, since it just doesn't feel like all the other fantasy mmorpgs out there, I'm certain it's a game I'll be coming back to, hopefully for many years. Really looking forward to see the story unfold and the world expand - There's just so many exciting places that can get added to the game :)

To me, if any MMORPG was ever worth a lifetime subscription, this would be the one. Funcom is always good about keeping up with their games and adding new content for years and years to come, and this game is fun, beautiful, original, with an awesome setting, awesome character advancement system, and plenty of room for the story and gameplay to involve and expand.

I still didn't get a lifetime, because I've never stuck with a game long enough to make it worth the money- that said, I've never played an MMO I liked as much as this one, either.

After doing the T2 investigation quest I decided at that point there is no way the life time isn't worth it. Oh! And they only get better.

To top it off I am a PvPer and haven't even thought about the PvP yet since EA. I believe that TSW is what MMOs should be and what I said we needed for 10yrs, nothing released has been a MMO in my book since WOW (I hate that game but it is better than the other stuff since.)

    Well said.

U figure an Xbox or PS3 RPG is 50 dollars. And those cannot even touch the content poured into phase 1 of the secret world. So 200 bucks is worth it, if you have that kind of money I guess.

Me personally, I would rather spread 200 bucks out though - some into GW2, some into EvE etc.

I believe it is, at least to me. If I play over a year (and I will), the more I play, the cheaper it will be on the long run.

Pne caveat, though. Lifetime subscriptions are not cheap up front, so that has to be taken into account. But if you can afford it, like the game, and your personal history has games you have played for long periods of time, go for it!

    No.

You have to pay upfront, it take perhaps 1½ year before the investment payed off. As for a casual player that perhaps ply from every day one week up to 1 day each month. Don't know. I'm not restfull enoughto feel it to be ok to pay $199 upfront... those kind of money is better reserved for future expenses or something else.

I'd never get this money back, a subscription I can cancel at any time. And there is value in the actual founds to be found in the wallet aswell.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

No game is worth a lifetime subscription until you have played the game for a full free month. During the first week games are new and shiny but after a few weeks you see the game for what it really is.

  • minttunatorminttunator Member UncommonPosts: 131

I think it's too early to tell.

The good thing is, we don't have to buy lifetime at this very moment, since the game includes 30 days anyway - I'll make my decision about possibly getting a lifetime sub at the end of those 30 days.

There is no way to know if a game will appeal to you for over a year of playtime.

It's been said over and over, but it needs to be said again and again to protect consumers from this scam model - the only games offering lifetime subs before release are games that aren't confident they can retain subscribers on their own steam.

There is absolutely no reason to offer lifetime subs other than to bind people into contracts they can't back out of after they determine the game has no longevity.

Only life sub I ever had was for Lotro , and boy I'm glad I did , been playing it since Beta and still play once or twice a week ,

As for this game I'm not sure , think I'll wait until after my 30 days is up and decide then. :-)

I definitely like the TLS method, however this payment structure fits my gaming style hobby. I don't like CC charges every month. However before I drop that kind of money on any game, I make sure the game is for me through whatever game trial they got. I played TSW CB for about 2 months and quit and signed up for the TLS.

I got my moneys worth out of STO as well as LoTRO so far, TSW will be no different for me.

    X2.

Bought a lifetime for LoTRO becasue I had beta'ed it and in retrospect I feel like I got my moneys worth. Been doing the month to month thing with TOR again becasue I was a closed beta tester and while I like hte game I sure don't love it.  I am going to wait and see on TSW before I even buy the box. I sure as heck would not buy a lifetime for any game before the first thirty were up unless I had been a closed beta tester, although I am equally sure the game companies love people who do

    I miss DAoC

Yes! Life is definitely worth it... Don't jump!

After being in closed beta for over a month and playing EA the thing that i consider a lifetime would not likely be for me (i've never bought a lifetime sub for any game) is that my gaming time gets shorter and shorter due to other things i do.

That is, however, a conundrum, cause if at some point i keep playing it casually it will be more expensive to pay the monthly fee and play little month by month than the whole deal of lifetime.  on the other hand, if i just end up with no time to play at all (as in any MMO) it would not be a good investment.

Not sure, so for now i have my 30 days to decide, to start with.

The game is rather good, in my opinion, and lifetime or not basically depend on your taste for games and your considerations based on your actual gaming trends regarding subs and all.

I'm on the fence about a Lifetime sub to be honest.  I have been and still am pretty critical about the combat and cash shop but have been trying to look past those things and focus on the good sides to TSW which there is a lot of.

Having said that so far it seems a very lonely game.  No one really groups up for anything or even has intellegent converstations in general or area chat.  I'm sure if I found a good group of people I would probably have a lot more fun but other than picking cabals at random spamming for new members and hoping to get lucky I just don't see the social bonding that I felt in the last game I spent more than 3 months subed to (EQ2) and definently not 12+ months to make the lifetime sub worth it.

I just can't see playing this game solo for over a year and no one seems to care all that much about playing in groups other than  power runs though dungeons which is grouping but not really social interaction.

No vote from me because I don't feel any game is worth a lifetime sub. Hasn't anything to do with how good a game is it's just I would never pay a lifetime sub to a game. I can sub to whatever game I want at anytime and that's good enough for me. Never have played any game longer than maybe a year at most at one time.....I like to jump around a lot usually 2-3 months at a time..and yes I will go back to a game after launch. All MMO's are gonna be a lot better after at least a good year later....

You also have to put into perspective this style of storyline/game/engine can pull off anything content patch wise.

    Space/Fantasy/Military/Dark/Light/Vampire/Zombie you name it!

So lifetime actually makes more sense in this game than the other fantasy mmos, where you know the storyline/content will ALWAYS be fantasy based etc. in those games

    Something to think about...

As with every other MMO this will be looking at a F2P model move in at most a year. Personally I see no reason to give them a ton of money for a game I will get free soon enough.

Actually the f2p is not true, they are freemium.  You still have to pay if you want to keep playing the full game, with expansiions and no content restriction.s

    From FC previous MMO's:

AO, 11 years old, still 15$ a month sub.  Free to play option, no access to expansion areas or content, which means no perks (talents), no real "decent" weapons or armor compared to paying players, nor the nano formulas (spells) introduced with them.

no Shadowlands access, no access to alien raids (nor weapons, armor or perks or nanos -spells-)  You want to playe the actual game... you subscribe.

Cash shop for cosmetic and convenience items.  Subscription gives you a monthly stipend of points, you can buy things form the cash shop without actually buying points.

Veteran points added to subscriptors give access to a bunch of utilities and social elements that are otherwise unnatainable.

AoC: 4 years, still 15$ a month sub.  Free to play option, no access to expansions, most raids and dungeons, no alternate advancement nor "factional" rewards.  If you want to play the full game you subscribe or pay micro transactiosn for limited access to certain elements, be them temporary or permanent.  Much more expensive unless you just want to take a peek.

Cash shop, subscriptors have discount in it. Subscribers receive points usable in the cash shop with their subscriptionfees too.

Lifetime sunscriptions will receive all the benefits of subsciption model, even if the game goes "F2P" which actually is not as free as some people think, and still gives the full advantages only to subscribers.  In AO, for instance, if that option was available at launch you'd have some people playing for 11 years, now, with all the advantages of full subscription, as there is people that has played (and payed) for all that time.

The 4 years of Aoc would also have been a complete "win" for lifetimers if the option had existed, cause there's people that has played, and payed, those 4 years.

AO, after 11 years, keep on adding elements, and content, both in free updates and paid xpansions/booster packs, Conan has had what... 2 expansions, and fre added updates too.

The keys for a lifetime sub are: do you like the game? do you think you'll keep playing it for more than a year?  and that's it.

The consideration of it going freemium in 3 years or tomorrow have no real impact in this equation.

Personally I spent 7 months in closed beta and I purchased a lfietime sub.  I don't regret it one bit.  It was an easy decision.  Even if I do decide to stop playing I can always come back whenever I want for the entire existence of the game.

Lifetime subs aren't for everyone.  You should think long and hard about it and decide if it's right for you and your playstyle.

I'm not the only one who's purchased it and there is a ~1100 post thread on the official forums from people who have (or haven't) that could get you even more feedback if you're looking for it.

The game is story driven, just like SWTOR. After you're done with the story content, what is left? Consider that before you're going to purchase a lifetime subscription. I'm sure that Funcom is going to add more story content but it won't be every week and probably won't be every month.

I would try the game for the first month before considering purchasing a lifetime sub, as was already suggested by another poster.
