I hate to say it but I have to mostly agree with Doomsayer.  If you think you need to move on, you need to move on, but be sure.  If you are, then don't waste time, do it!  Be concise and to the point and leave no room for error - your message must be PERFECTLY clear.

Btw - don't even think of going back, once you close that door it is 99.9999999...% likely you will never be together again, and friends is a bad idea - trust me on this.  If you do later in life (5-20+ yrs down the road) decided you made the biggest mistake ever, well, give her a call but don't expect anything.

Do what you gotta do, man.  If you make her mad at you while doing it, all the better, it'll make her stronger and you more free.  But don't be a a$$ about it, just be honest and to the point.  And if you don't even love her - hey - it's not that badimage

    Ya feel me man?

This is redundant, but its redundant on its strength. Face to face is the best way to end a relationship, as it leaves you with a lot of dignity and her with a lot of self respect. If you choose to say it any other fashion the girl may look back and wonder what the found interesting in you in the first place.

End the relationship calmly, in a fashion that the both of you can understand. Look at her, and be straightforward with her. Not so blunt as to be an ass, but tell her what you're feeling, tell her your a little confused and need some time away.

It's depending on how your relationship went, and how your friendship is together, but pick and choose what fits the character mold between the two of and use them. As there are a lot of great thoughts here.

P.S. - Sorry to hear about your dad Murt...
