Wait, what do yuo want from this tares? Do you really want Funcom to fail? Do you even realzie what you're talking about?
This is peoples jobs and lives here dude. If TSW fails and FC shuts down, lots of people will lose money, like 38 studios. WTF do you even gain from that?
TSW aside, I don't get this notion some people have that people that work in the games industry are entitled to employment no matter the circumstance.
If a game does fail and folks do lose their jobs because of that then that's just that. I certainly don't think we need to put up with bad product out of a sense of duty to keep those responsible for it in a job.
Maybe, even, those people will leave the games industry and actually find jobs in a more stable and less demanding, but not so enjoyable, field and clear the way for new talent and fresh thinking in what is a small and very incestous development community.
I am a Funcom stockholder. I was (was) a gamer for may years prior to pursuing other activities.
The stock has plunged since before release due to general global risk aversion but, most importantly, due to speculative buildup. As usual, a lot of people have gotten the idea that they would be evil rich come July 3. As usual, said party and market professionals try to exploit the situation. A lot of people had the idea that Funcom would publicise pre sales number on launch date and when this didn't happen fear, as usual, became the mind killer.
Fear is the mind killer.
Panic and fear has reigned, rumours fly, information is non existing and chaos is king. They day the CEO left, the stock was up.
Fortunes have been lost. The very same fortunes are now somebody elses fortunes. Fortunes will return. Such is the way of the my new and favourite MMO, The Stock Market. And yes, what is happening with the share price now is just a lot of noobs pissing pants and better suited players are grinding.
I'm very happy that most of you seem to enjoy TSW. My money holds great value to me but a great player experience cannot be measured in money. I would gladly pay may full stake (ok, maybe not the full but..) in Funcom just to relive the experience of Monkey Island, Quest for Glory, Civilization (1,2,4),Diablo,Ultimas, Freelancer, Hard Hat Mac, Wizard of Oz, Pinball Dreams, EQ, CS, Quake,Jones in the Fast Lane, MUDs, Eye of the beh...
You know where I am. Happy gaming! Happy shaping!
I figured it was because employees were dumping stock, like the last CEO and the other employees who excersised options. Such a drop in one day with no new information is odd. Nice post though.

Broken expectations.
Employee's stocks are of no consequence, the amount is very small. Major insiders, including previous CEO need to flag sales, nothing has happened there. They are also quaranteened.
Believe it or not, xfire stats seem to be driving the fear.
It's an exciting game. The loots are better, the social aspect more challenging, the quests are way beyond. And when you die, you die. No immediate rez. Just spec. Like CS .
That would be hilarious, as Xfire is having issues with TSW (well, i bet is the other way around) and for a lot of people they are not acknowledging each other.
I guess i shouldn't b surprised that something as xfire could have an impact, but i still am. perhaps i'm too old to know people that actually use it?
Well, in any case, it might be a good opening for oportunistic buyers. Maybe.
Neither fan nor the opposite. There is people and jobs involved here - Hysterical conjecture is counterproductive and Funcom is basically doing quite well at the moment.
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!! (repeat ad infinitum)
Not to all info nor immediately, it ussually takes some time for a public company to produce economic presentations for their stockholders. dealing with them one by one would be a massive undertaking, as anyone can basically buy stock and become a sharejolder.

Thanks for the info. What can i say, don't know much about stocks .
But yeah, even Peter pointed out that FC didn't puclise pre-sales, so everybody freaks out. I do know shareholders are suppose to have access to the info, but i didn't know when. If you could have it right then, that'd easily explain the drop.
Launch is also a good moment for sell, or just before. it's safer.
Usually game hype drives stock price up, if, for instance you bought last year and sold a few days ago... you would have made good money.
Then, people pick (short term investment) some stocks when the launch starts to build up, to ride the wave, and sell before the wave crashes. if the game does extraordinarily well and stock stays up.. well, you could have won more, but you already won. And took little risk.
It states how much went into development 300,000,000 kroner, which is 50,000,000 USD so less than many recent MMOs.
I noticed X fire had TSW around where star trek online launched, and have seen whoever valuates stocks for video games use x fire a couple of times before.
Article mentions that the CEO changed positions.
Maybe TSW is a later bloomer and will start doing better later on. This may have a grave effect on the game though.
We get it, you have made your point. You dont like TSW. Thats fine and dandy.
Question remains; Why are you still here? Why dwell on a game if you don't like it? Dwell on a game you do like.

Gargola, you are entirely correct; Mechanically. Outside the bubble, TSW is probably the most unhyped AA/AAA ever. Outside the gamer sphere, there is no TSW. Yet, at least. It's a wildcard seen from anywhere but those in the know.
Information is generally not provided on a day to day basis. It must be sought out.
TSW's launch is pretty decent. Its not a game I am going to sub to but its a decent game. For people who really like to read quest text/take time for a story to be told and take the game at a certain pace its a really good game.
However there are lots of gamers who simply have no idea that its released yet or even what is. I know someone who played AOC who had no idea Funcom was even making another game much less had released it.
$50M is not an obscene amount of money for an MMO. And the launch is fairly good. And has decent reviews (caveat: release reviews of MMOs are worthless) Not sure about sales numbers, though.
Either way I don't see too much reason for Funcom to take a bath on TSW but who knows what might happen.
If I had money to invests in stocks I would totally take advantage of the obvious trends here.
Invest after people bail post-launch > wait for hype on new product to raise prices back > sell just before any real gameplay footage is shown > repeat.

Stock dropped mostly upon the ceo stepping down, it'll bounce back.
TSW dosen't climb on Xfire either, it does take time for a game to get to #10, but the fact that it's not climbing at all, but just staying around #20 isn't a good sign...
I would not worry just yet, it's still early. AOC was #4 after 2-3 weeks.

TSW is climbing - its from xfire top 30 to top 20 now and b4 the forums went down they had an announcement that some of the Dimensions be near player limit and recommended players to go into less crowded Dimensions.

FunCom market cap is roughly 4x higher than early 2011. Not that bad at all.
