Most of us felt it 8 years ago buddy...
And having heard of the old glory days that i wish i could have taken part in i don't blame anybody for thinking that! There have been many games that i've heard people say signifies the death of the genre. This though? This is something else entirely.
One of the things Family Guy is known for is mocking subjects that are taken seriously. Sometimes they're mocking things that people take too seriously. I think MMORPG definitely fall into this category. I can only hope that they decided to do this partially because of how seriously some people take MMORPGs. It might be nice to see some FG humor aimed at this genre. :-)
Pretty much how I feel. I wonder if the people treating video games/MMOs like untainted virgins realize just how the rest of us imagine them looking behind their computers. It's not a pretty picture.
Come off your high horses, a game is purely a source of entertainment, and FG is humorous, thus entertainment. MMO just means that you're playing it online with tons of people. If this launched as a single player console game with online multiplayer (which is pretty much what it is) no one would be bitching.
You changed your icon! I loved your old Art Deco icon. I think that is the death of the genre.
I compare this release to the myriad Disney movie games and other gimmick games based off of a cartoon or movie. They flop. And they suck. This game will be no different. There's no reason to make this game. It's not even an IP that lends itself well to the genre. But whatever, if people enjoy it, fine. I for one think it's just indicative of how desperate the investors in the genre truly are.
That much I'll grant you...even though I played the hell out of Pocahontas decades-ish ago >_> The animation was just so purdy...Generall the quality of these kinds of games takes a nosedive because of their origins, it's hard to deny. My issue is more people treating MMOs like it's religion, and God forbid (punny) a game should be made that they don't approve of that shares terminology. It's all very ridiculous.
As for my icon, thanks for the compliment, that was actually my artwork and as I'm now graduating and moving toward a career, it's better I separate myself professionally from myself casually (read: in forums where I make no effort to bite my tongue).

A Family Guy MMO. Now you know the mmo industry has hit casual rock-bottom.
Next stop will be a flash-mmo of Angry Birds!
Oh no! A company made a game based off of their franchise that happens to be in your genre!
Some people really need to understand something (not necessarily directed at quoted poster). If you don't like the idea or looks of a game, don't bloody play it. You're not required to come on here and complain just because someone wanted to make a game. Not every game in the world has to be good, or even appeal to you. Sorry.
OT, seems interesting. I love the show, so I'll probably try it out at some point.
Problem in this world, these kind of decision are made by guys in suit who have no clue about the gaming market. They think that because something is succesful on TV it will automaticly be a success as a game. Nothing can be farther from the truth.
