Get all the info you can about the game and figure out whether you like it or not. Tera and TSW is both great game, it all depend on your taste. Is figuring out whether you like to eat that apple or orange that hard?

This is just one of those glaring examples of why I am struggling to find games that I like to play. People will just watch another player struggle and die or if you try to help someone that is obviously struggling they often turn on you like a rabid badger.

They will happily slip past you while a mob is killing you, because then they won't have to "waste time" fighting that mob before they can click on the mission objective and be on their way. Or because while you're keeping the mob busy, they can harvest the resource node that you were trying to reach.

MMO's are full of "special snowflakes", lol

LOL I had a quest I had to die for to progress it I had to be in ghost form. Well I kept grabing hordes of zombies and people would save me lol. I had to run in the woods to die. So not every one is like that.

You just type /reset in the chat and you die :)

That's the fastest way to travel as well. Type /reset and then choose a spawn point closest to your desired location.

Don't judge the game by it's MMORPG.com "community". Go to the official forums where there are only subscribers posting and you'll suddenly see much more positive overview.

In any case, any game has jerks who spam the General chat. Two solutions - close the general chat or ignore the jerks. Problem solved.

You can't join Cerberus even if you wanted. That particular dimension is full. Not that it matters at all which particular dimension you are in, in this game.

Hitting a mob is a double edged sword in certain situations. Generally if you hit somebody else's mob, it dies faster, but the person who tagged gets less experience and you get nothing. The exception to this are the quest mobs, who give no experience in general, but do update the quests as long as somebody participated in a fight with them, regardless of who tagged.

Dying incurs durability cost on items. A single death (or a couple deaths) on stepping gear certainly don't break a budget, but the cost can add up if somebody is overly careless about it. Besides, I've found various easter eggs, lore items and side quests by going back and forth between quests, things I would have missed by using the suicide feature.

I would also advice everyone to close the two main channels, "General" and "Hints" channels. The first because random people like to spam their nonsense and having a global server doesn't help with the constant stream of drivel. The second because people ask for the most trivial stuff in there, things that would require practically no effort to find for themselves, spoiling any potential surprises for others.

Seems the same to me as every mmo community. Not sure what all the fuss is about. If anything people seem a tad more open to grouping compared to a lot of other mmos. Shocking yet true from my experience.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I made some of my best online friends in WoW. Yes and look at what monstrous threads on that "community" has been inspired on these very boards. You cannot judge a whole community by picking out the bad apples. Yes there will always be horrid people just like in real life. Learn to deal with it as this community aspect of games are not going to change as real people are progressing towards that same sentiment you see in games. People are getting more nasty in real life and games are reflecting that. You need to find  friends from interacting with players and not painting everyone with a tar brush. Don't be lazy.

  • CaldrinCaldrin Member UncommonPosts: 4,505

I have not read the entire thread but here we go..

Ignore the community on MMORPG people only come here to have a good banter and fight over pointless things...

As for the offical forums they seem fine to me.. sure if you go on there posting how much you think the game sucks then of course they are gonna rip you a new one..

In game i think the community is probally one of the best i have come accross..

  • andypandyrandypandyr Member UncommonPosts: 89

One of the most ridiculous Op's I have ever seen , are you serious  ?

  • DaezAsterDaezAster Member UncommonPosts: 788

Never a good idea to pass judgement on a "community"  in my oppinion. People are passionate and deffensive about games they like and dislike thats all. Understanding is peace....

Might not be the same dude, but there surely have been similar posts on the forums of all games. Pretty much all MMO communities are the same, at least on the forums - there are mindless fanbois everywhere. It's especially bad around launch, which is why the TSW and GW2 fanbois are the most prominent at this particular moment. :)

On Grim the people are really nice, though a bit quiet compared to other servers.  Cerberus seems.. bad.  I was hanging around there questing the other day after Meeting up for Darkness Wars and I saw some pretty rude/mean people.

Overall I like the community better than recent ones I've been in such as Rift (with all the "omg swtor is ganna make this game f2p") and then SWTOR ("omg GW2 is going to make this game f2p").

I spent some time on the forums here and the official ones and there are some bad posters.  I've posted some bad comments myself a few times... but try to keep in mind that people who post on MMO forums are around 10% of the actual people who play the game.  Most of my friends in TSW don't even have their forum accounts setup.

I get a strong feeling of community in the game on Grim at least.  I never see people run by and let me die nor do I let others die as I'm running by.  That's the mentality of a single person and it's hard to change and not an overall view of the community.  Some people also don't even turn on other's health bars or pay attention to other people... but again, that's individual based.

Before MMORPG started doing articles on TSW this week, the community on these TSW forums were really lax and friendly.. but constantly getting trolled really riles people and things turn ugly.

  • loulakiloulaki Member UncommonPosts: 944

i am not fan of TSW, i dont even play it, i just read from mail notifications, and really the OP for this thread is so wrong ..!

it sounds like a hater to humanity ..! these are the people mate everywhere and everytime !

There are rude people in every game, every forum, and every walk of life.  If you have trouble dealing with some kids in a game then life is going to be one big grind fest and that's no fun.  Just play it and have fun. Quit worrying about the grown up children.

  • muthaxmuthax Member UncommonPosts: 703

Really OP, if you think TSW is full of "fanbois" you better play somethign else. TSW community is already bad as it is, and by that I mean all the trolls haters and 'wowtards'...

quite simply, if you have something really stupid to say like "combat sux iz liek a wow rouge" or are asking for 3-4 extra hotbars, well they will tear you a big one. the forum has been trolled constantly since early start and people had enough

As long as you don't spaz out, you'll be ok

  • muthaxmuthax Member UncommonPosts: 703

Maybe the same guy with some forum alts, sounds familiar

    some people are really bored

  • MishakaiMishakai Member Posts: 105

Either you haven't played many MMO's or you are just here to troll and pick on TSW.  Pretty much every MMO I have played has had the same behavior exhibited from some portion of the playerbase.  Deal with it, or play single player games.

any reasonable complaint thread(like the need to add incentives to hold points in fusang rather than just caps which has turned it into a massive cap trading fest) rapidly becomes a SWTOR/GW2 bash over there and here i guess it's just part of the unofficial forum code of conduct.

please tell me that this is a fringe division of fans who mainly hang on forums and the game is not populated by guys like this. TERA was not a very good game and the fanboys made it all the more unbearable. TSW looks really fun but people like the kind posting here will ruin any game experience.

Seriously ALL MMO communities have gone ot hell.

Oh for pete's sake; play the game, or don't play it. Try it or don't. What more can be said? TSW's community as a whole is one of the most helpful and friendly I've ever seen in an MMO. In fact, it reminds me of the early days of Everquest, when chat was filled with discussion about the game itself and someone who trolled and acted like an idiot got buried by people telling him to just shut up.

Yes, that's right; a MMO where the WoW kiddies and trolls are in the minority, and are made to feel very, very unwelcome.

How is that a bad thing again?

And as for your point about bashing GW2 or SWTOR; that would be because the people who play the game don't want it to receive massive changes in design philosophy because it's already fun!!!! It wouldn't be improved by any of those insipid WoW-inspired staples like an auction house, or instant travel, or "dumbing down" of what is the best questing in any MMO ever, period.

PvP? It can use some tweaking, but PvP is just an addition to the game and not its core reason for being. TSW is so very painfully clearly a PvE game that to ask Funcom to treat PvP as a crucial component is just ridiculous. PvP in TSW is a diversion; it's not meant to be competitive or completely balanced.

Oh and last thing, grow up. Seriously. People who don't want the same thing you want aren't "fanboys". They have differences of opinion. At least that's what mature people would say.

There is no community. The chat is broken, still. Most people ignore each other out in the world to a point where they would stand there and watch you get killed, instead of helping out. And then you have the elitist d-bags like the ones you described.

Whenever I run into someone in the same area, I invite them.  Sometimes this leads to hours of grouping.  I've also asked for help as people walk by, and they help.  Try being social.

I have to agree. Which is odd really considering the way the game is set up you would think grouping simply wouldn't exist but I have grouped more in this game than quite a few as of late. Kind of nice since it makes the missions go by quicker and easier. Great way to meet other players too.

According to OP rationale, you shouldn't even be on the internet then.  I've been surprisingly very impressed by the game thus far.  It truly is a "thinking man's game."  If you like mystery and puzzle solving then you'll enjoy it.  Questing is a far deviation from any other MMO I've played.  Personally, I've had all positive interactions with players so far.  People have been very helpful and willing to work together.  Seems to have attracted a more mature audience.  At least, by MMO standards anyway lol.

So the OP says more or less, "I don't want to play this game because any negative remark about the game results in personal attacks, naming calling, denial that there is a problem, etc"

Looking over this thread it proves his point really well.

You wouldn't end up playing any mmos if you went by that rationale on these forums or the forums of the game itself. Always happens...
