Auto Balancing and YOU!

TalketzantoTalketzanto Member UncommonPosts: 205

Whats everyone's thoughts on the Auto Balance System? Apparently it can yank you off the Blue team and put you on the Red team and vise versa during the game......Would you be happy that youll get more "epic" battles? or upset that you worked hard to cap points for the wrong team?

I'll wait for clarification from someone who follows this game more closely. Cause that sounds too stupid to be real.

No, what OP states is correct.

I'm just gonna go ahead and duck out of this thread now :)

    I personally don't like it.

I've always seen a prompt that asked if anyone on my team was willing to volunteer to swap teams.  Whoever clicks yes may get transferred.  This seems to kick in only if someone on one team leaves the game and the spot remains vacant for several seconds (Ie. couldn't be filled autotmatically by new players.)  Done like this, I like it.

What I definitely did not like was that when I queued to pvp with a few friends, or if friends used the handy "join friend in pvp" button, we'd get to play in the same match, but weren't always placed on the same team.  That was definitely frustrating.  I mean it's definitely fun to bombard your friends with a trebuchet from time to time, but sometimes you just want to work together using some strategy.

I didnt like it at all. This was the one part of GW2 that was completly casual, I could log in for just a few minutes and have some fun before going out or whatever.

I will just ignore this part of the game.

Sorry bud but that is wrong, you are "automatically" switched to the other team, no warning, no nothing.

the game asks you  to volunteer to switch sides.  i've never been "yanked" off of a team.  that being said i don't like it.  sometimes the matches are like 6 v 2 of 7 v 4.  i'd rather wait a few minutes til both teams are full.

My personal experience confirms what he said though.  Whenever I've seen it happen, it's always asked for volunteers first.

During the stress test, I spent the entire 5 hours in the sPvP, and I got yanked off my team many times.

So I dont know what you guys are talking about.

If no one volunteers, someone is chosen at random I believe.

Yeah, it prompts if too many players drop out from one team before it yanks you. If no one chooses to swtich, it will yank. But who would want to drop out of the winning team anyway. I played a lot of these battles last BWE due to having little time overall and it was very annoying. However, on that same note, they made it so that every match kept switching around members of both parties anyway so after 10 straight matches and the same people playing, we got the chance to pretty much play with everyone anyway. If they are going to have this type of e-sport pvp, they need to have a teams option where you enter with your team and your team can't be swtiched for the duration of your run unless someone drops out from your team. At least thats my opinion.

I'm sorry but the only one saying anything about the second coming is you. Fans of a game accept its flaws and strengths.

if they are going to have this, then i dont see any serious team-based ePvP happening. would suck if you go in with your pre-made team and all of a sudden you have to fight the same team you worked so hard to learn to play with. i hope they remove this, it does not provide a 'fun' feel

this doesnt happen in tournament play.

Like what's been said, it asks for a volunteer and then pulls someone (no idea how it chooses) if nobody volunteers. I don't know anybody who likes being pulled to another team (usually the losing team) but it's better than continuing a lopsided match.

Of course this only happens in random pick-up sPvP and not in tournaments or WvW, and this is also likely going to be one of the configuration parameters that players will be able to set when they rent sPvP rooms (servers)... just like any good FSP, where a clan rents a room (server) and then sets it so their clan doesn't ever get auto-balanced... or sets it so that it never auto-balances.

  • Stx11Stx11 Member Posts: 415

The Auto-Balancing only occurs in "Hot-Join" PvP (GW2's equivilent of "Pick Up Games") - a mode designed solely for instant-action play. The mode is intentionally designed to minimize the impact and drawbacks of premades on casual PvP.

It doesn't occur in Tournaments and they have said that people will be able to rent/earn/obtain their own game "Servers" (ala TF2) with customizable rules, parameters, rotations, etc.

ANet has already confirmed they are working on ways for friends to group up and play together as well.

There might also be other sPvP modes we have not yet seen. We will know more after BWE3 and Launch.

I was yanked to the other side a few times too. It has been brought up in the Official Forums, but I would suggest starting/posting in a thread about it again when the official forums open on Friday :) As far as we know, this could just be something for the lowest level PVP or solely implemented for the beta to see whether people liked it. They'll value your opinion of it on the Offical forums whether you disagree with their design or agree. (I personally would rather them have a short queue to fill up the battle, or at least make it 6 v 6.) (This is one of the things I will be keeping an eye on/asking about in the beta forum, because it can be better)

Edit: Seems this doesnt happen in wvwvw? - if for structured pvp, and if its on a volunteer basis, then I dont care. If it force janks someone off his own world team, I seriously doubt it will go over well.

if its implemented for wvwvw, well I dont even know what to say to that, its wrong on so many levels, and makes world/team loyalty redundant, which is very odd for wvwvw pvp. - Im asuming its not a mechanic implemented in this area?

  • gessekai332gessekai332 Member UncommonPosts: 861

i'm not particularly concerned about their queued instant-match pvp. GW1 was very heavy on instanced pvp and for the most part they worked it out very well.

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)

I dont like it. - I thought world vs. world, meant just that. Now it seems it just means; any mechanic that can perpetuate and unending battle with not real point to dedicating effort to your team. - If I make a ton of effort but have been yanked to another team, isnt my contribution going towards another home world than my own? - I dont understand this. I have to experience how this works to really get my head around it. It is the first sign I've seen that GW2 and arenanet dropped the ball on any aspect in the game - for me atleast.

    As far as I knew, there would be world calibration every reset, so that the strongest servers were in the same pool, and faced off with eachother. This ofcourse would need a little time to really get tuned, untill some performance history was logged, but this idea of having no real loyalty, and no means of staying with the people you've gotten to know on your own server, if your server is starting to get members janked out to the enemy teams. Its just weird. Something must be lost in translation;

How could a bunch of people sitting in a room, discuss this and agree it was a great idea. Its just bizare.

I think you are misunderstanding. This never happens in WvW. This only happens in structured PvP which is like battlegrounds in other games.
