From what I have seen and read about Guild Wars 2, the game to me anyway just seems like the next newest wow-clone/themepark coming out, with nothing really unique to the game at all. Only really unique thing I can see GW2 has is the fact there is no monthly fee. I personally don't expect much out of GW2 just like the other mmo's that have come out and tried to be the next wow/big mmo. The problem is in the fact that mmo's these days are just way to soloable, they have become bascally single player games with a irc chat room, till you hit cap.
What happened to mmorpg's being about the journey and not how fast you can hit cap and then waste your time raiding for gear that in most of these themeparks has no more use anymore. Dark age of camelot did it right, it had questing, solo play, alot of group play, and raiding, after you raided for your gear, you'd don said gear and go to the frontier and help your realm take castles over and such, to add to this they also have realm skill points that provides some real further advancement of your char thru pvp. I am curious as to what went wrong with mmo's. Anyway, yeah I'd not expect much out of gw2 if your smart, because like all the themeparks before it, people will be bored before the first week or 2 of release is up, it always happens, even to casuals.
Personally I am waiting for: http://www.therepopulation.com/index.php The repopulation, if they actually deliver what the site says they are, it will be probally the first decent mmorpg thats come out in the last 6+ years that might have some actual chance at lastability. It reminds me a bit of swg with how the crafting is and the fact you can make a totally non-combat char if you want to. Now... The Secret world, dispite not being a bad game persay, people are quitting in droves already because quite frankly the game just gets too boring too fast, which from what I have read about GW2 is going to be the same thing here as well. But hey, if you quit for a while no biggie you can always come back later and not have to worry about having to pay a sub fee to check out the game after some updates.
Dispite saying all this I'll probally buy GW2 myself, just because I'll never have to worry about a sub fee again, I can come and go as I please when I please, which in my eyes, is a nice touch. I bought tsw for 37.50 on a 25% off sale on a webstore, and I have to say that was a big waste of money, not as big of a waste as diablo 3 was though. IMO if a mmorpg gets boring after 5-10 hours of playing it total, the game has some major issues that need to be addressed.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

OK
We have way too many threads like this one already.
you obviously have not played the game and don't seem to really know anything about it.. its funny because your second paragraph starts with "What happened to mmorpg's being about the journey and not how fast you can hit cap and then waste your time."
Ironically this is exactly what GW2 is all about
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. In the internet, there are never too many threads like this
Seems OP idea of honesty/realism is agreeing with him.
And that makes him different than most of us on here how???
As for the op....as someone who is skeptical of GW2 if for no other reasons the people on here who treat it like it will have no flaws even I'm having a hard time seeing how you make the connection between what ANet is doing and what Blizzard did.
well done sir...
If is a WOW Clone i rly want to know what gw2 copied from wow
?

This thread has potential.
People must be bored
Also is it really necesary to advertise your mmo here? I smell a viral marketing campaign here
the Op had to start their own thread instead of just replying to this?

Op is making an appeal for gamers to check out Repopulation more than anything else

I stopped reading as soon as I saw wow-clone.
How is it different?
You can actively dodge, which can make the difference between a good player and a bad player, rather than rely on RNG.
Classes can work together to get some nice combos between their skills, providing synnergy.
There is no Tank/Healer/DPS trinity, but there are classes which can provide support for team mates if that is how you want to play.
The list really does go on and on, but since this is such a silly thread, it's not worth the effort.
This thread will not go well.
Being honest or realistic is NOT going to be well recieved on the unreeased game with extremey hype behind it.
Give it 2-4 weeks and things will get realistic and honest, and only then for about a week then it turns to venom and bile.
Id say theres about 1 week of honest opinions as overhype slowly turns to hate...theres a sweet spot in there.
Posting this now isnt going to make a whole boatload of people happy however.
K, thanks, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Reading, hearing, watching movies is nothing compared actually playing the game yourself. Give it a try and then form an opinion. It seems you long back to the days of sandbox mmorpg's. Dunno if a new solid one will ever come out.
I "think" GW2 has enough juice to become a community experience. By that i mean that the single player feeling will go away.
Time will tell!
Well if you haven't played it yet and plan on purchasing it I think you'll be pleasantly suprised when you do. Looking forward to seeing how the repopulation turns out myself.
It would however be quite refreshing to be honest and realistic with expectations, just sayin...OP does make a veiled point in his "intent to create a flame war" write up.
Honestly how many times does this sites community need to overhype a game and then become dissapointed with their far reaching expectations fall short before they learn to just take the game at face value...just sayin for any game...face value...youll enjoy the game more and wont feel the need to become a forum stalker constantly trashing the game out of vengance.
I'm going to enjoy the game just to spite people who say I can't.
I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it. <
Let's be honest/realistic here. As interesting as The Repopulation sounds, it didn't even work out so well even with all the power of the Star Wars franchise behind it. It may end up being a great niche game, and it may very well be a long term home for some people...
... but even GW1 ended up a long term home for some people, so... y'know. Apparently that can happen with just about any game.
Some people will like games and stick with it, some people wont' lik those same games, and won't stick with it.
The only two important questions with population and retention are 'Will it make enough money for the company to keep going' and 'will it keep enough population to make it worth playing there if you want to'.
Anything else is just fluff.
Lets be honest, GW2 is the most fun I have had playing an mmo in the last 6-7 years and I have played almost all of them.
The only people who treat it like it has no flaws are people that hate the game. Guild wars 2 is a great game within the scope of what it is trying to accomplished. Not everything is perfect but the negatives are in no ways gamebreaking or significant enough to care. Guild wars 2 is just like every good 60 dollar game in the world, it is not perfect but it is better than MOST MMORPG in the market right now for me at least.
Guild wars 2 doesn't appeal to everyone but that is not the same as it being a bad or inperfect game.
note: it is impossible for humans to create anything perfect.
Same. Anyone who has played GW2 or knows even the tiniest bit about it knows it's nothing like WoW. OP is fail post other than showing he knows nothing of GW2 and is excited for The Repopulation, which is understandable at least. What's the matter OP, can't shout out the love of one game without insulting another? Typical of MMORPG.com posts, for sure.

I have read some about how people are looking forward to Planetside 2, but I would never start a discussion topic about it because I know to little about it. OP, I feel you have done the same thing with this discussion about GW2. Not knocking you, but do a little more looking into what the game is before labeling it. I hope you do buy it and find out how different it is.

Is this a post on GW2 or an advertisment for "The Repopulation"? I like sandboxes and I have to say "The Repopulation" looks horrible. It's another Darkfall/MO waiting to happen.
