Gratz on linking a website that only show MOP as being the top seller... Who care about what is being number one sale on Amazon or how many copy they have sold. The Fact that WoW is Diying clearing come from the fact that this game doesn't have a solid community anymore and nor iwill it become as solid as it was before. Only time will tell if those Panda will bring back WoW as a community or if it will just help to keep digging the Grave of selfiness in this game.

Something for sure, I stopped to play this game when burning crusade came out and seeing where it is going right now, just make me feel happy about the fact  that I didn't waste money on this game.

Well, common sense begs to differ with you? WoW is the most popular product on the most popular online website/possibly the most popular retailer. It will sell boatloads of copies which proves that the game is not dying. You hating on the game proves nothing.

WoW was dead to me when they introduced sweeping class changes before Cataclysm.

It is considered dead compared to it´s popularity before .. basically, WoW can´t compete anylonger with the new MMOs.

  • NadiaNadia Member UncommonPosts: 11,798

MOP will sell well - no question about that

another amazon link is this one, showing best selling PC gaming software/hardware

its clear that collectors editions are a hot item,

why else would GW2 collectors be selling better than WOW MOP standard edition?

So, being the most popular online game doesn't mean it's a good game. Perhaps, I never said the game was dying, I said the community was dying... That's where all the problem take place, since the MAIN reason why I play MMORPG is because I am looking for Massive Multiplayer Online. Wow has become something that I dislike since there is no community anymore. When I see my brother playing, I don't get what is the fun. Before, we knew each others on the server you were playing on and you knew who was a jerk and who wasn't... Now, you are just doing random LFG and random LFR and the list go on... where you have almost no intereaction. Seriously, if I wanted to play this kind of game, I would play RPG since they offer better experience.

And, I am not hating this game... I just dislike the decision blizzard took these last few years and how they influenced every MMORPG that released these last few years that brought game where Massive Multiplayer Online had no more place and where community was inexistant.

Get real people. WoW is a good game just a bit out dated but it's not going anywhere.

  • cronius77cronius77 Member UncommonPosts: 1,652

not sure what your trying to get at in this thread, I have no intention of playing wow but i was sent a scroll of resurrection from a friend for a free 80 a few days ago and I took it just in case i ever play for a free level 80 toon. The server for US servers was still just as heavy as they were last year . Stormwind was full when i logged in just like when i left long ago. Out of every game out there with declining populations id say wow is probably not losing all that many people. Will I play it again , not anytime soon but im sure there are a lot of people that might get bored of their current mmorpg and just go check out the new content with the expansion later on down the road.

  • LachyFTWLachyFTW Member UncommonPosts: 181

All the peeps saying that WoW is dead were once WoW players that got bored of the game. The game is dead to them because they don't enjoy it anymore but 10 million people still do. I can understand why they have to reassure themselves in these forums, they don't want their new toys to fail like many other have.

    WoW is a zombie.

It my be moving, but deep inside we all know it's dead.

  • deniterdeniter Member RarePosts: 1,439

Actually, i miss Wow. The real Wow, that is.

World of Warcraft died to me nearly two years ago, and that's not because i'm somehow bored with Wow. I would gladly pay for a gameplay we got in 2009 and before. But for now...

    R.I.P Wow

Even if only half or a quarter of the previously stated 10 million players are still around and buy this expansion, that would still put it at the top of any best seller list. Most games are lucky to sell over a few million.

Doesn't mean that the juggernaut isn't losing steam though.

Dying? It has a long way to go before it could be considered dead, although the fact that its lost more subs than most MMOs ever have is mind boggling. Hell its even lost more subs than many single player games sell. I have never played the game though and my opinion about it taking a long time to die is based on the huge amount of players, I do not know what issues the game may have that are suddenly causing everyone to doubt how much longer the game will survive for. Players of the game know a lot more about that than I do.

Even then Blizzard might very well be prepared to accept various degrees of "survival" for WoW. It is pretty inevitable that WoW cannot carry on being a super profitable game forever, Blizzard might be willing to make massive cuts to the team and infrastructure behind the game over time though. If they do and can find an equilibrium point and still make a profit on some level it could go on the way some other MMOs have.

Blizzard are obviously going to be working on a new project to replace it too, maybe something completely new or "World of Warcraft II".

    Currently playing:

EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)

    Gravity Rush,
    Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.

    (Waiting for) Metro: Last Light,
    Company of Heroes II.

I'm not sure what community you were involved in but the group tools didn't change my social experience one bit. It just gave me more chances to run dungeons when I wanted to run them.

But anyway, the community 'dies' between expansions. When the next expansion releases, there will be queues to get into the game and the end game cities will be packed to the gills yet again.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Yes, it is beating out such juggernaughts as Just Dance 3 for the Wii for $9.99, and Kingdom Hearts 3D for the handheld 3ds!!!

Pre Order sales are meaningless.  Considering cataclysm only sold 4.3 million copies, ill be surprised if this breaches 2.5mil.

Only 4.5 mil? that looks like a total fail. Right? i mean PC only titles usually sell 5 to 10 millions copies almost on daily basis.

£30 for an expansion? Too expensive.

I jumped back into WoW a couple of weeks ago just cuz'. Been having fun again. If/when I stop having fun I'll quit playing it again & return to Diablo.

Servers I play on have plenty of players and bots. <shrug> If you don't like it, don't play the game. No one is going to make you :)

WoW is dead... died a long time ago.

It's the Zombies that play it now. /joke

But in all seriousness WoW is for a different crowd then it was originally designed for. Blizzard went for the cash and it's depressing considering where WoW could be (MMORPG wise) Alot more people probably play Farmville then play WoW.... so does that make Farmville a better game?

WoW is the "Justin Beiber" of MMO's It's design is for the kiddies now. Thats where the money is.

I will even be one to admit wow got a bit boring, and the fact my job keeps me a bit more busy than I would like. But Wow is not going nowhere for quite a while. Yes it has changed, for some it is better, for others it worse, Frankly you will never please everyone all of the time. But will I go back? meh, maybe, maybe not. BUt I have not seen any other MMO's that are fun to play with. But I am also bit old school, I loved DAOC, UO, then progressed to EQ2, and SWG (before SOE shot themselves in the foot grrrr!!! both good games poorly managed).

But Blizzard is doing pretty good considering this is their first MMO, and that WOW has been fun(most of the time). You can't deny that or try to hide your head in the sand is not going to make it go away. But let's see where they go with MOP, if it reinvigorates it, or makes it worse. Time will tell. Frankly no other MMO's have had me like OOoo (since Eq2, and SWG)for a while other than GW2 beta when I played the engineer with turrets :P that was pretty fun. I hope there is a new MMO that adds a good mix of Old school MMO features with some new innovative ones.

Maybe I am just burnt out on my MMO's and everything is the same now, I know its best for me to take a break and come back with a new perspective. I am itching to try TSW, or Tera. I am definitely always looking toward the horizon for something interesting and fun. :)

Considering at the time the game supposedly had 12 million active subscribers.  Yeah, i'd consider that a fail.  Only 1/3 of your claimed playerbase even cares enough to buy your shiny new expansion you only release every 2 years?

Edit: And by the by, the "sold x number of copies = quality" argument has been debunked many times.  How many pairs of scrunchies do you think they sold in the 80's? Or how many pet rocks?

Humans are stupid and buy into fads all the damn time, you can't use number of items sold as an indicator of quality, unless you like getting fleeced...
