hello i havent played in a few months but hope to get back to what i liked about eq2 the quest the groups and exploring and well im not a newbie i have a lvl 49 almost 50 wiz i really wanted 50 before i left so when the new stuff came out i could just jump in and crap but 49 is good for me ive read the comments and most of them are postive which im excited about since i did like the game just needed a break from the same thing over and over. new stuff finaly came in and i see the change in the game is really big now which i like since my wizy roots and stuns never worked so i hope they fixed that gonna reactivate my account some time soon and try for 60 and finaly the PVP is added so u dont have to rely on the quest so much for fun. oh and i have also played the other big name mmorpgs and none quit get me into it like eq2 does thats my opinion.
Imo the Combat changes have done a great thing.. I got a 38 ranger and I feel like I got better chance to solo mobs now and do more dam. Although before we rangers got 2 - 3 ranged skills where we could run and shoot.. Now its only the ranged auto attack where we can run and shoot.. but, they have increased the dam of the scout classes, so.. it really does'nt matter, cause if you do the right things and use great tactics you can easily pin down a white con mob before it gets to you. Also group specs has been increased.. So, although its different now.. and we all have to relearn som skills, I think its a good update
Also, I think it depends on how you play your character that determines how the Combat changes feel like

I would really like to hear why the Combat Revamp killed the fun of your assasin. How is it not fun now (after being out a week) and how did it, in your opinion kill the class?
I appreciate your feelings just would like to hear the reasoning behind them.

Why does everyone have to explain themselves to you anarchy? The guy isnt having fun and thats final. It means SOE failed one(of many) of their players. No matter what the issue may be, it doesnt take away from the fact that hes not enjoying the game. Even if he told you why and you made valid counter arguments supported by documented facts, charts and statistics, it still wouldnt change the fact that hes not having fun. Which leaves me to believe you only want him to tell you "why" so that you can berate him with all manners of vile mentation.
There seems to be two extremes when it comes to opinions about the CU. Either you absolutely love it, or you loathe it, there is no middle ground. To me it seems people only give their input to annoy the guy at the other end of the spectrum. Can someone please post both the ups AND downs of the CU?

Simple answer Pirrg, because this forum seems to be the breeding grounds for people that live to bash games they dont want to play (but for some reason does, or say they do).
Its good practice in mature discussions to actually add the "why" not just the whine.
Well, I took the Fanboi Challenge 2005 and instead of just going off the EQ2 forums, actually get DoF, resubscribe and try it for myself. I made some comments previously that were quite anti this CU and whatnot, and in truth I don't think they were too unfounded taken in context, seeing as my main is now a completely new character. For better and for worse really. So;
My main was a level 50 Warlock when I semi-retired, and I was generally bored with the game. Great community (AB server), good fun when a big event happened, but was same old, same old. This was after 7 or so months, played from release.
Came back after a 2-3 month break (not checked exact dates, so if my months don't add up the x number of days EQ2 has been out, get over it). First impressions: The game is a LOT more solid now. Everything just feels more smooth and in place. Griffons fly majestically now, the zones seem to feel more.. I dunno, is hard to explain, but just feels more polished.
And since the CU, which it most certainly was haha, I have found my three main characters, Warlock, Ranger and Templar to be quite significantly different. The Ranger, from the get-go, is now awesome. Totally kicks ass now, compared to when it was my first and abandoned character back at release. They are a true ranged class now and have some killer ranged skills.
The Templar seems simular to pre-CU though have to work harder and use more thought process. Which in my books is a BIG plus. No more slow spamming of heals to the main tank til the mobs are dead. Mages and Rangers etc tend to pull aggro with their big damage etc, so you need to be a lot more active and interested in what is going on. Really enjoying the Templar, though the solo ability is pretty well dead. But then, I play a healer to heal a group really, not solo, so I don't care about the lack of damage.
My main, my Warlock. Oh my freaking god almighty. The first two days I was ready to delete him in disgust. He is so not the character i slaved over for 7 months to get to level 50. Skills I used before (or more significantly, DIDN'T use before) are now completely different. And it was very, very foreign. And after going from 100% to 10% durability from trying to solo in the DoF on my first day, I was pretty well steaming from my ears. But, I gave it some time, seemly against my better judgement. And I'm well glad I did. Warlocks, now a predominately group orientated class, now completely and utterly own haha. I have heard "holy ****ing ****! nice work!" enough times in 3 or 4 days to be satisfied that my Warlock is now a group dominator. And with a tank who has any handle on how to tank and hold aggro, and with a solid, efficient healer, the power is there to be exploited for most damage classes. Any Warlocks who say anything along the lines of you can't do the damage of before, even solo, you need to stop smoking crack. It's pretty well simple to take groups of 3 or 4 single/double down arrow yellow con mobs with our AoEs etc now. If you want to discuss tactics etc, make a thread. Am happy to join in.
I can't really comment on any other classes as I've not played them myself, and prefer to know first-hand before commenting. But from what I can tell, anyone I have grouped with so far who have come to grips with their new class, are loving it. The game is not necessarily a lot harder. It's now a lot more indepth. No more 1,2,3,4'ing. Need to be at least semi conscious when playing now.
Sure, there are plenty of bugs. This is an MMO and it is made by SoE, so that's to be expected. But they'll get through them I pressume.
I have enough gripes about SoE, EQ2, George Bush and that board game Mouse Trap to fill like 25 threads, but that's not the point of this thread. It's about the CU. And so far, for my characters and the enjoyment of those I've grouped with, I give it 9/10. Should be enough content/interest here to tide me over til Hero's Journey is released anyways hehe.
Peace. All stated is purely my opinion. If you disagree, be civil and contribute to the discussion with more than "the CU blows chunks, enuf said"...

I played at release, quit for a few months (WoW of course lol), then went back, then quit again, well quit MMO's completely for a month or so, finally going back to SWG.
The problem was that combat had no variation in more ways than one. In SWG, even though in its core, its the same as EQ2, you still have to think about what keys to press, like you'll want to KD/root, get some range, drop some poisons, etc.
As my Monk in EQ2, as people have said, all i did was spam specials, in any order. They all do damage, i rarely ran out of stamina (i forget what its called now), so i just hit the most powerful attacks first, followed by others whislt waiting for reuse timers to end. Was the most pathetic combat ive ever seen, i woulda macro'd it all and gone afk in groups if i knew the EQ2 syntax. The only thing that i used tactfully was a stun, but again, thats a case of using it whenever its available. Also, if you got bored of this shambles, pathetic excuse for combat, you had no pvp for variation.
Im very pleased to hear that combat has been changed. I dont mind the CU in SWG, stops 'uber' people soloing everything and most importantly made skills more viable, rather than using just one. I hear, and i expect, that this CU is no different.
I HATE soloing..why would i want to solo in an MMO?..tell me why? I dont care if im not as high level as 'd00mbr1ng0r',etc, i want to group with others in order to have fantastic battles. Soloing was bearable in other games, but in this it provided poor xp, poor loot and was very time consuming, especially pressing 1-10 sequentally over and over.
Anything that encourages people to group is a good thing, people who hate grouping are just looking after No.1 so they can 'beat' everyone. The only bad point about this is, i find it incredibly difficult on Runnyeye to find a group lvls 30-40, and populations werent that brilliant. I hope things have changed in this aspect, else this CU will all be for nothing for me.
Like the CU. Reactivated for the free 7 day reactivation and it was good enough that I have re-activated my SOE AAP... though I have not logged back into SWG. I'm still boycotting.

Absolutely leaving. SOE pulled another SWG game-mangle.
The game is horribly more irritating and solo content is so painful it is a joke.
No one to group with (pre 50s) and forced grouping, ripping off all my spells and handing me back app 1's in exchange, and mandatory time sinks (now so horribly bad with the greenie-meanie heroic death mobs 5 levels lower) make this game far too much pain to play.
It was a fair game initially. Never better than fair and certainly not as good as EQ1 in any aspect save graphics. That was a bonus only if you had a fairly good gaming rig.
Some people obviously find it fun, but some people still play UO, SWG, Neocron, There, and other games I consider dead and buried.
I play to relax, not be irritated. I get enough irritation dealing with life to pay for pain. Perhaps if I were bored or didn't do anything else except game that might not be an issue.
As an aside, I don't feel I wasted my money on this game like I did SWG. I did find some of it fun and was entertained for a while. The pain far outweighed the entertainment and especially so now.

Give it a rest. If you don't like it, fine. But everyone I've met has liked it. And that's mostly people UNDER level 30 since very few people I know are over 30

Flaming a game is always acceptable...it depend on how you do it. Many persons here just flame...flaming needs a goal.
You need to "offer help" in a way or another, since a game like WoW is beyond any salvation IMO, I dont bother unless I am in an extremely good mood.
EQ2 is a great game, it has MANY flaws, but every game out there has many flaws. Focus on a flaw or a edge and developp on it and on how the game could be improve/is perfect.
EQ2 is designed, focused and targetted at the elder women and it is a freaking great game. If you are a self centered person however...you prolly need something a game where the individual means more than the guild, and this is not EQ2. Personnally I value the individual more then the guild, but the group more then the individual, yet I hope to find a game that balance all this. For me a guild will never be more then many groups of persons, the day it start been a guild in the sense a game like EQ2 has it is the day I dont play the game. Guild levels could be great, even if the guild is secondary or if it is central, it all depend on the twist you put to the feature.
EQ2 talk about solo is like grandma trying to make you feel welcome and try to convince you to come back see her more often. My grandma is a great person, but I visit her once or twice a year, and honestly, I dont want to visit her more. Bad me? Nah, it is just me, I focus on other stuff like most peoples of my age are doing and were doing 40 years ago, 100 years ago or at any time in our history. Our genetic is written this way. My mom is an elderly woman now and I see her many times a week...dont have the energy to see grandma on top of that (and they really dont get along together).
Currently I play Saga of Ryzom and I am having a blast! SoR has 1 weird thing, it is the perfect soloing base system and they make it a grouping game...still, I am having a blast in SoR and I will definitely talk about it soon. SoR is the worst grind I ever experience however, but such a fantastic game...and when you enjoy a game, it is not a grind anymore.
