There I've said it .. I dont mind a challenge but as a mostly solo play its just becoming frustrating .. dont know my arse from my Elbow call me a wimp ot whatever but bring back normal leveling for me .
I've gone back to Lotro , as I have a life sub and really enjoying it :-) Not sure if to get GW2 tho ..
EDIT
Just too add , since making this Thread with alot of positve feedback here , the free weekend coming along just at the right time I am taking advantage of it and experimenting with a few different builds.
I have actually found one better build so far and strangely enough it has made things a little easier / fun to play already.
And thankyou to mostly everyone for such great and positive comments ! :-)

Well, Ive too am done, but not due to any form of challenge, but for a general lack of any "hook" to the game. I played from the alienware beta giveaway incident to 2 weeks post launch, and while I love the setting, the concepts, etc I just found the game had no overwhelming "omg I'm home from work, time to log in and play" factor to me at all.
Im getting frustrated too w/ the difficulty. Not complexity of missions/quests or even combat mechanics. Its that Im finding mob difficulty and density/agro range is just to harsh for a soloer. I either have to take enough healing skills/gear that killing anything takes me 15+mins or take enough dps skills/gear that I can kill 1 or 2 of the pack surrounding me but die to the third or i get lucky and kill all 3 w/ 100hp left only to have the same mobs near insta respawn on top of me again because the mobs were so packed close together or agro range was so huge that i died instantly
And this is just in Savage Coast and I have all ql4 talismans and ql6 weapons.

Mob density in savage coast is fine, I never had any trouble there, the only place where there were groups were the zombies that were pretty easy to kill, a few groups which had 1 hard to kill guy and 3 easy's. Just take down the powerful one first.
What specific area of savage coast is it? perhaps people can offer some help?

Anyhow... GL with LotRo. I kinda dropped it when it became more and more a solo MMORPG...
LOL, I know what you mean, sometimes I'm actually screaming at the computer with rage as I die yet again. (the cat goes running and hides)
And this is a good thing. No, seriously, I've gotten so complacent with these facerolling MMO's that I can play with only partial attention and still succeed. It feels good to be challenged again, and I actually get a sense of accomplishment when I pull off yet another quest marked Hard or Very Hard, even if it requires cooperating with other players to make it happen.
In fact, I realize I'm going to have to work on improving my socialization and friend making skills if I want to smooth my way in this title, at times the content really is too much for a solo player, though sometimes you just need to take some time and rerun the current tier to get your gear up to snuff.
Case in point, there was this one timed quest, where I had to kill 13 zombies in like 10 minutes. I failed it like 3 times in a row, I just couldn't keep myself healthy enough during the fights, with regen time I kept falling short by 1 or 2 kills.
So I went out and did more quests in the zone and got all of my gear up to QL 6 (was previously a blend of 4, 5 and a couple of 6's) and then went back and retried the quest and ocmpleted it the first time with almost 2 minutes to spare. (proving when solo, gear really can help)

to anyone who is thinking of quitting because it's too hard... you cant just have a straight dps build and expect to mash your way through the game, you have to go either tank / dps or heals / dps hybrid for solo leveling / questing... it makes it a lot easier, hell i almost shot myself in the face when i started doing egypt and the difficulty curve that shot up with how hard mobs hit apposed to how hard you hit them... but then i went hybrid or grouped up with other players and it was pretty cake
no, you take up a few healing skills, generally 2, combo builder heal and a 5 point finisher, i suggest fists caurterize and sergical steel with respective passives and then whatever you want for your MH weapon, fists also has some great dps abilities so you can make a very effective hybrid build that wont cause you the heartache of taking 15min to kill a mob
Edit - also you only need to change 1 talisman to provide adequate healing for solo play.. generally it's recommended you change your luck talisman with a crit rating heal talisman
I also quit playing. I like difficulty and want every mmo to become more dificult because everything is pretty much easy mode but TSW is doing it wrong.
It is fun to have difficulty by solving things, difficult encourters not by having mobs agro you from the other side of the map just so every fight you have to kill more then you intent to making it a stress to do things.
A higher difficulty does not mean that fights also have to last longer, its just boring.
Anima burst (or anima shot) + Anticoagulant + Dark Potancy + iron Maiden = Profit
All i really do to solo, from Kingsmouth to transylvania spam anima burst and 3 round burst, 90+% of the time i finish with clost to full life. Wear dps gear with maybe 1 blue heal piece and you're golden.
from what i notice..if you are dps you go with tons of Attack power..hit.crit.pen thats the order i was told..but i guess the order can change depending on your build n stuff.. i like that its hard and figure things out but im not saying you guys that find it hard a wimps or anything..also alittle gear tip i read
i will cut and paste since it is not me that made this tip.

The gear plan
In the end, how you chose to gear will have a lot to do with what are doing at the moment. For questing you might prefer a more well-rounded approach with a good mix health, defense and offensive stats and if youre doing an instance with tight dps checks you might prefer only getting the minimum health and then having as much dps as possible. Tsw lets you save gear sets and quite a few people have reported that as you progress through the game you start having multiple gear sets for different encounters.
Theres a general approach by gear slot that I found that seems to work well that can save you some of the headaches of having to choose individually how to go about gear. Note that Im talking mainly about the primary stats of the gear piece. If you find a piece of gear with a ton of health and some offensive stats for your dps spec, then all the better!
Weapon slots:
Weapons are less versatile and some abilities are based on the stats of the weapon you are carrying. Weapons stats should reflect the primary role you have chosen whether tanking, dps or heals.
Headgear slot:
As the one slot with the biggest stats that is not tied to weapons you should consider it as your heres my priority slot. What I mean is that you should choose your head slot based on what you consider is the most important for your character right now. You can either further specialize your character and give him a real edge in an area or use that slot to truly open up some other options like survivability or damage mitigation.
Major item slots:
The round-up slots. These slots should be used to round out your character. So if you plan on being a high-end dps, this is where youll have your +health items for example. As a general rule of thumb, use two of these slots for health items and the last one to get some other stats like defence, resistance, etc If you used your headgear slot already to round out your character, you may want to consider using one of your slot here to add some punch to your primary role.
Minor items slots:
Fine tuning. Minor items should be used primarily to support your main role by fine tuning some stats or to get a particular stat needed for an encounter. Think you need a bit more hit? This is the place to get it. Really need magic resistance for boss? Again, Minor items is where its at.

I saw someone with under 2k hp it trans killing mobs realllly fast due to the fact they had tons of AR they could kill ten times faster then i could by the time i killed 2 they did like 4-6
I play games just like you
Don't feel bad. I quit for the same reason. *comfort* ^^
I really think TSW should have difficulty modes, I think LOTRO has them too, so it does work with a MMO.

I use this combination as well. I also find the shotgun pretty good for handling mobs, especially if you set up your passives for some kind of combo like affliction(bloodsport) > penetration proc(dark potency)>weaken(12 guage).
To the OP, I am around the Savage Coast now, add me to your friends list and we can run some content. I normally solo missions(My RLFs are in bed by like 10PM) and hook up with pugs for dungeons...my game name is Coolrockski.

If this is the case (I dont know I dont play) then thats just poor design not difficulty.
Well hope you give it another go at some point.
TSW is more hardcore than casual and it does require a time investment. The cool thing is you get rewarded for that time.
I've been playing TSW for a little while now and I will admit, the difficulty curve shot up quite decently. But the game doesn't allow you to simply stick with a singular build. It's designed around adaptation, it seems to be the whole ideal of the "World". adapting to your surroundings and current situation.
Like a few others have said above, having one or two survival skills or heals will help significantly. Combining skills that share synergy will also greatly increase your ability to survive an onslaught, and deal out significant damage to succeed without too much difficulty. Consumables help such as barriers and health drinks, as well as Tacos for a quick recharge out of combat when you're low.
Maximizing the use of Hinderances and Impairments on your targets is critical as is positioning. I tried playing this much like other MMOs with a lackluster attention span, but that was quickly changed when I hit the Blue Mountains area. All it takes is a litlte persistance and thinking about what skills are useful in what you want to accomplish.
its not as bad as the op says it is but mobs are pretty densely packed in some areas. sounds like he just has a bad build though or is geared wrong for what he wants to do.
the game does have a difficulty curve though that is much higher than any other themepark mmo out there, and that is a good thing at least to me. so sick of facerolling mmos and never being presented a challenge. to me the secret world is dangerous, you feel like a zombie apocalypse is happening because of how dangerous the world is. its not some frolick in the woods to pick daisies.
ive never let a video game beat me however but have fun in lotro op, sorry you didnt get the beauty of this game and didnt understand how it works.
I guess I got lucky with my initial build by going shotgun and fists. I use all the shotgun builders/finisher with 2 heals from fists and the game is easy mode for me. I'm a really casual player, and like in other posts, if I found an area too difficult I went and earned myself better equipment or ap's to make my character better. Also, under the"misc" skills there is a really nice self heal. I you want to run stratight dps or tank with no healing as a solo player, I recommend at least grabbing that one skill form Misc. to heal yourself.
I'm in egypt now and it's still pretty much easy mode with my build, only 1 quest gave me trouble, so I grouped up. It is after all an "MM"O, and I always see people wanting to group.
When is the last time you heard someone say "I quit, it's too hard." about an mmo I keep saying TSW is more similar to EVE than WoW.
Thanks for the challenge TSW!
The "best" part is dungeons are even more challenging, even Polaris...crap can hit the dan easily on the last 2 bosses especially. Your build and strategy are very important, not just having the highest level gear. I have seen players with high level gear wiped easily in Polaris.
When I played SWTOR, once you were OP for a flashpoint(dungeon), you could group with a fewer people and just farm it.
I do love the settings and the look an feel of the game but I just get frustrated getting aggro'd every 10 yards , I know its a great game and Funcom have tried to do something unique. I will probably give it another go soon especially if they adjust the Mob density a little.
Thanks for the comment on Lotro , I sometimes find it hard to believe I still enjoy it after five years ! theres just soo much to do in the game
I use the Warlock deck in the templar faction. I have no problems at all. The only difficulty i have encountered is the to catch a thief mission. Since this deck is mostly melee its excessively difficult to kite the mob around the statues while still hitting him.
The "average" MMO'er will most likely find TSW difficult for 2 reasons.
The main reason would be the fact that the player has complete responsibility for their own build (skills and gear). They cannot just "play the game" and everything falls in place as they level-up. They need to make important decisions, and that means reading and thinking quite a bit. Many people will also not adapt to "deck swapping", because in other MMO's they are used to playing one class on one character, and that character's skill set is usually adequate for all solo content.
The other reason would be that it's often important to spend some time watching how mobs are placed and how they move before launching an attack. You can't kite if that causes you to get aggro from a new mob. Sometimes you have to steer your target into a position where you can safely kill them, etc. Many players will not find this level of challenge "fun".
Of course, many will say the game is not hard, it's just "bad design" or "it's just tedious" or "it just takes too long". Winning a medal at the olympics is not hard either, it just takes years ("too long") of practice ("tedious").
What level is your sprint ability? i noticed this problem with my wife and after doing faction missions and upgrading her sprint she no longer aggro's stuff from great distances. I know it sounds silly but its just something i noticed.
I don't wont to work! it's a game give me meh lootz!@ This guy wont make it through the story in TSW
