What's in CB&OB in korean MMOs for all those mislead.

SUN is announcing first korean CB testers on sept 23rd.  Official korean site www.sunonline.co.kr

Ragnarok 2 Online is nowhere near CB phase, and there have been no announcements as of yet.  Only thing certain is that official releases for the japanese and korean versions are to be on same dates.  Also Gravity corps is now under the Gungho corps which is a japanese Online Games distributor.  This is also a reason why, lot of koreans may not play RO2 due to the fact that they are disgusted from previous CEO of Gravity selling off Gravity corps to Gunho corps.  The develpors have said that RO2 is a "korean" game at the TGS2005, but korean people are not buying it, and it doesn't look too promising in korea.  Specifically what made koreans more mad is the fact that Gungho was a small company, but with the success of RO in japan from aquiring license with Gravity, has grown bigger than Gravity.  It's quite ironic because of the fact that Gunho's sales indicate 90% of all their sales income came from RO alone.  Having said that, the company who gave licensing rights was the one bought -_-;; (Gravity was about 100x bigger than Gungho...but RO was such a hit in japan, that even one human sized plush doll cost around $1-2k)

Granado Espada is in 2nd Battle Tournament test...It closed 1st CB weeks ago, and hasn't been in CB since.  It's also the game that is getting most attention at this point, as many players seem to have become disappointed with SUN.

SUN is kind of down at this point in korea.  People are talking more about DECO online, and it's combo system.  Free Open Beta test for DECO Online starts 28th.  People have written reviews that combat in this MMORPG is on par, better than any other MMORPG around.  http://deco.uzoo.net

Uncharted Waters Online, from KOEI, the company who's first titles in North America I think were Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Kessen, for PS1&2...(I forget which came first...-_-;;) Had a record breaking 1million users at once during the first week.  However the game has calmed down a bit, as the interface is quite different from traditional MMORPGs...

The two Dark-Horse games in the MMO market in korea at this point are Dekaron Online and Rohan Online.  www.rohan.co.kr    www.dekaron.co.kr

Rohan online has been at top5 popular game searches on the no1 korean search site ever since its Open Beta.  It is also the Most talked about and played at this point for an open beta.  Rohan Online has surpassed WoW in PC rooms' most played games at 6th place.  No other MMO in korea has ever been this successful in Open Beta phase. Not even WoW or Lineage2 with all its raves came near what Rohan Online has set.  Professional reviewers say that it's a result of raved games such as Yourting Online not being as good as what people were expecting.

Rohan also has a create a town update coming later on, so we'll have to see if this game can overcome Granado Espada and SUN.

If you want to know Rohan Online, try playing it...I played it and personally it's a grindfest...But for some damn reasons it made me play -_-;;...Guild system is also quite unique...Either way I quit because I blew 10million trying to create rare and unique items.  The Gms even told me the item creation for Rares and Uniques are random, but I think it's total bullshit when I blew 14 pairs of rares to create a unique weapon.  Not one damn unique popped up, and I was disgusted and quit.  My guild wanted to donate money and items to make me stay...but anyone who's ever over-enchanted in L2 knows how disgusting the game feels after blowing weapons consecutively.  Not to mention 14 pairs!!!  In the end I told the GMs what happened and also told them to go suck on their mother's hairy pussies -_-;;

Anyways...here are the games...and the most anticipated games are basically Granado Espada and SUN.

I bet you all those people who are talking shit about Gravity are going to play RO2 once OB, and the servers are probably going to be packed as usual, but let them talk shit cause it's now owned by a japanese company.  I also don't feel too good about Gravity getting owned by Gungho, but who can blame?  You look at the korean society, it's full of snobs who own corporations, and those CEO and Owners of companies are all OLD FARTS who only have interest for their wealth and not even a single bit of pride for their countries.  You look at the korean government, and it's still run by those snobbish politicians who steal money from National Budgets, work for superiors who are liars, so they can get a little profit...-_-;; arrgh All those koreans in Elitist community are such liars and snobs...

Oh yea...my dad is also a freaking OLD FART, annoying, meddlesome and quite the petty man.  He thinks he's all that because he came out of Seoul National University.  He acts all modest and shit out in the world, but he's so fawking petty I can't stand his ass.  A man with only snobbish pride.  If I'm going to an Ivy League to become a snob like my Dad, I might as well go to a Community College.  He's even trying to arrange a marriage with his friend's daughter, who's father happends to be the owner of one section of the Hyundai corporation.  GOD I hate snobs, I hate people with durt-bag pride, like my family, including grandmother, 2nd aunt, and my father.  No wonder I never got to see my mother or my mother's side of the family because they probably ran off somewhere to never see my family ever again... If I had the chance, I'd run off too, it's ust the damn OLD FART has so~ many fawking relations I can't go anywhere.  Not to mentions a year ago when I left the house, I had to come back home, because the OLD FART threatened to kill my friends, if they were ever lieing about my whereabouts.  And I know this OLD FART is far capable of doing such a think because he thinks I'm some kind of momento left to him from his ex-wife ( my mother ) . ==3

Anyways I'm sorry about that, that has nothing to do with the topic, I just got...alittle carried away.  There are always snobs and rip-offs everywhere you go...just more of them in korea.

Nice info :)  I'm going to be taking a look at Sun.  I guess you are a native Korean speaker?

Could you post anything you know about ZerA www.zera.com ?  English info is a bit lacking.

Ya I agree.  IGN didnt even cover Webzen and Gravity in thier TGS report, despite being the largest mmo companies there.  Instead they decided Turbine and SOE who had a very small influence needed some press.

RO2 doesnt look like it is shaping up in the states either, most people playing iRO say they are going to stick to it.

Gravity wasn't that great to begin with. In the open beta wher eyou had to pay for it to keep your characters, I did so and got an assassin up to about level 47 or so and took a break from the game. They guaranteed I'd keep my characters but oh no, they had to add an extra week that I was uninformed of. No email, no nothing. And if I was there, I'd have to pay for it as well so when I came back to RO, my account/characters were gone. Burn in heck Gravity.

I know about all those games and I'm pretty interested in them too. I don't give bad opinions till I try it. Then I will see what I get out of it.

    Oh yea...I forgot about Zera...

    As far as I can tell from the netizen community in korea...Alot of people are saying Zera is boring -_-;;

Other people in community boards are mad that OB hasn't even started or...closed beta tests have too long of a gap.

Others...complain of course,,,about Nexon and it's well known trait-mark of ripping-off other games.

You guys may not be aware but Nexon is known for ripping-off games from other companies.

Say...Nintendo for instance complained not long ago, that Kart-Rider was a rip-off of their trade-mark game Mario-Kart.  But this is alittle complicated, since Mario-Kart never had as deeply oriented drifting interface.  So they couldn't sue Nexonimage

On the other hand, one of Zera development sketches clearly indicated, that Nexon copied one of town images from Granado Espada.  One random person found this and posted what he had found.  In couple of days Nexon was being trash talked everywhere in korea.  But things calmed down after Zera developers met with GE developers and personally apologized.

Still people always have a bad image of Nexon for not being creative and always ripping-off other games.

But as for Zera, people complain because it's still not in Open Beta, or because it's been months and only 2nd closed beta has finish.

As far as what I've seen from screenshots, the interface is a rip-off of another korean MMO called ArchLord.  The graphics seem to be similar to L2 with some kind of bloom effect.  Or it could be ArchLord graphics with bloom effect.  ArchLord didn't have bloom effect.  And it looked darn crappy.  But if you have really good PCs, the graphics are insane in that game.

Seems to me in the coummnity boards, people are asking for OB~

    Mugengaia,

Can you tell use more about "SUN" Soul of The Ultima Nation!

I did read an article on the webpage from webzengames that 304.000 users did sign up for the first CB in South Korea.

    That's very huge!

Can you give a view what beta testers said about SUN. www.sunonline.co.kr

It looks like graphics and gameplay are awesome from the videoclips I did see!

    Thanks

  • mugengaiamugengaia Member Posts: 347

Actually I've already mentioned this on the other thread...but anyways.

SUN had many registrations for 1st CB, which only 999 users or 9999users.. I forget -_-;; were chosen.

The players opinions are pretty mixed.  But either way, seems to be on the mediocre side.

The reason being.  SUN is a create a room type MMO, kinda of like GW ala Diablo.  More of the diablo style.

1-10 people max in a room to start a field...

This game play is not only ruining the game for people, but will never really draw attention of that many players.

Reason being, create a room MMOs have less depth, and aren't as emersive as open fields.  They plan to release PvP rooms, and eventually have castel raids and etc.  But I don't see how this will work out, and many people aren't happy with it.

People on the official forums are pretty darn happy about the graphics...but you'll at least need a 6600 to have a feel of the lush environment and gorgeous chars.  They say, finally a game that evertakes Lineage2 graphics.

Anyways...either the Offical forums, or Fansites, the answer to SUN is pretty simple.  People aren't happy about the "create a room" field system.

On the official forums you see responses from players protecting the game by saying...those who weren't chosen for the 1CB are just complaining bla bla bla...but it's evident people are curious about its success already from only trying the 1 CB.

The fact that it's a "create a room" field system has just been a real image ruiner for SUN.

st CB started 27th September until 3th October with 999 users and the second CB sarts 11th October with 10.000 users.

How many games from South Korea do you know did have 304.000 users signed up for its first CB?

I know none.......so how can you tell use, it will never really draw that much attention from players?

How can you judge over SUN if you even didn't play the game?

Their are only 999 users from the 304.000 users who did sign up, which did have the opportunity to play!

Did you spoke with a CB tester?

Look ad how diverse opinion gamers have from this forum.

Not everyone has the same opinion as you!

I think that Webzen know how to make a game, MU even does stand in the top 15 market share leader in South Korea internet caf

I never said the game suxs...LOL

All I can guarantee create a room field play will never attract more poeple than open field.

And my reasoning for people opposing create a room gameplay is from the official forums + review and fansites.

If you can read korean I'm sure you'll understand that there are more people not happy with the game than actually content with it.

Go to Playforum/SUN, Gameshot/SUN, Gamemeca/SUN, or even the official forums at SUN home page...there are "more" (notice this word) people dissappointed about the game.

And don't make it seem like I disgust the game or anything.  I was telling you what the people's thoughts are from written posts at different Fansites+the official forums.

One thing is for sure...I'll probably never really stick to a create a room MMO...because it doesn't fit my taste...Kind of like GW.  The game is good, but its temporary-ness with "create a room" field system will never attract as many players as WoW.

I'l don't give about if you never really stick to a create a room MMO.

As a Korean native you would have mentioned Lineage (2) instead of WOW, WOW market share declined fast after its launch on 18 Jan. in South Korea.

I'm pretty sure that SUN will have a larger market share in internet caf

  • mugengaiamugengaia Member Posts: 347

The only reason WoW has less members than L2 in korea is because the monthly fee is somthing most people don't stick too.

There are more PC bangs in korea that have L2 than WoW.

You go to even Playforum/L2 and people will be saying the same thing.  The only reason there's more people playing L2 in korea is the fact that there aren't that many WoW Pc bangs compared to L2 PC bangs.  THIS IS A FACT.

People would rather play WoW in korea if they can.

You could probably see PC bangs with L2 about 99% of them...even in smaller citites like Daejun.

But WoW and other games are less in number to L2 PC bangs.  Which equals to less people playing due to the fact that in korea, PC bangs have contracts with game companies, and have unlimited or time extended play.

This means most people don't pay monthly fees, because All they need to do is go to a PC bang a only Pay 1dollar to play WoW, L2, RF blabla...

And yes there are PC bangs that have WoW,L2, and many others...but they cost more than average PC bang cost.

CB phase for Ragarok will happen in Q1 2006 for South Korea/Japan and you have to wait atleast another 5 months for US CB.

For the global players, it doesn't matter much that Gungho bought a 52% stake in Gravity.

Granado Espada has its potential to be a hit in South Korea, however many core people which developed Granado Espada left IMC games.

A record-breaking 304.000 users signed up for SUN first CB and its currently the most anticipated game in China!

Anyways...there's really no point in arguing about a game that's not even out...and at its first CB.

If you like it that much it may succeed it may not.

    That's for time to decide.

Otherthan that...I doubt it will be anywhere near WoW or L2, due to the fact it's a "creat a room" field system.

Especially people in korea don't like 'create a room" field system...

And one last thing...I went to korea this summer.  And I know WoW is by far more popular, and could have bigger number of subscribers than L2 if it only was as available as L2 is.

You can't really argue about this with me, you said it yourself, you live in europe.  I go to korea every summer.

And playing to return after college...now that I have a wife in korea anyways.

I live near a PC bang that has contracts with about every MMO, even including RFonline&Ragnarok.  There were at any given time far more people playing WoW than anything else other than Starcraft or SpecialForce.

If you're so aware of korea, and have the guts to say you know korea better than me, then I'm pretty damn sure you can't argue with me on the fact that IT IS VERY HARD TO SEE PC BANGS WITH EVEN RFONLINE&RAGNAROK ONLINE CONTRACTS, due to the fact that they aren't as popular anymore and people don't play them as much, so the PC bangs are actually losing money by having contracts with gravity and X2Online (CCR).

GRIND sucks? You wanna be max level in a month?

Read the reports from Korean KIPA (Korean IT Industry Promotion Agency)  and why WOW failed to hold its market share......or do you know it better then they do?

Average concurrent users dropped from 160.000 early this year to 45.000 currently in South Korea!

I'm also going to stop arguing, I only find SUN the best game to be released from South Korea due to the previews and videos I did see!

I got my information from Korean Information agency's and research companies in that field and not from some local PC bang talk.

I know that RFonline and Ragnarok isn't hard to see in PC bangs, because Ragnarok stands at place 26 and RFonline even not in the top 30 from PC bangs.

Specialforce stands at place 1, Starcraft at place 2 and Kartrider (Nexon) at place 3, but market share from Kartrider declined fast lately, because of the negative ripp-off news from Nexon.

Many PC Bangs boycotting Warrock from Nexon and replace it with Battlefield2, because its a battlefield2 ripp-off.
