...........find that surprising, t yet i dont. Went from $49.95 a month ago to a third of the price. The game must be selling that poorly to sell it that low. I dont think even with F2P coming and $14.95 price, SWTOR will be able to make a comeback. I wish LA would let SOE bring back SWG, just to experience a "real" SW MMO. I hope in 10 years, there will be a true SW mmorpg.
Tbe Repopulation will be what SWTOR shouldve been.

Lol, good one!
Yea, for me, its like Walmart offering me a free copy and I used it for extra cat litter, but even my cat couldnt stand using the cat box due the game being such a p.o.s.

The $14.95 price tag isn't really news. (Although I can see if you hadn't heard it could be shocking.)
When EA announced SWTOR was going FTP (Freemium actually) they also announced the remaining standard edition copies would have their price reduced to the $15.
If you want some more reduced price sticker shock, the previously priced $150 collector's editions are going for around $39.99.
When the game goes to Free to Play in November, the game in it's entirety will be a free download. (What you are allowed to access of the game will be restricted to whether or not you are subscribed, or a possible unannounced use of cartel coins in the cash shop.
So not news. In review:
The Good: From a new subscriber's standpoint, the game is now essentially free. If someone wants to become a SWTOR subscriber, they can pick up the physical copy of the game for $15 and get a free month's subscription. (a net sum of zero).
The sooner a potential subscriber buys the box and subscribes, the sooner they will begin accruing cartel coins to use in the future (unhashed out) cash shop.
Buying a physical copy also skips the inconveniance (and for some people problem) of a 30 gigabyte download.
The Bad: If a potential player was considering SWTOR, and was considering exploring the free to play avenue EA has announced, why would theat person commit to buying a box when the game will be free in November. Furthermore, even if that potential player was considering subscribing, the details of the coming Cash Shop are still undisclosed. A potential subscriber on the fence may wait till more details about the Freemium pay system are disclosed in fear of a pay to win cash shop.
The Ugly: A game's price being reduced from $60 to $15 in 8 months is never a good sign. As I stated before, for EA, it's pretty much the same as giving the game away for free. ($15 price includes a free $15 1 mnth sub). In fact it's worse. The physical copys of SWTOR ate now loss leaders for EA. That $15 price tag includes a substantial cut for the retailer. Between the apparent lack of popularity of the title, unforthcoming details about the coming cash shop, and the fact the game is free in November; the odds of selling many units, even at the $15 price, seems unlikely. Before someone jumps down my throat by pointing out that it's a good deal for peole who want to subscribe to the game, remember, EA is specifically switched their focus to attracting players who are either adverse or very wary of paying a subscription in the first place. For the most part, all those boxes collecting dust on store shelves and in warehouses will either collect more dust or, as room is needed for new inventory, eventually find its way into a landfill. Those boxes no longer represent possible futue revenue streams for EA, but rather more losses for EA.
A BIG consideration too is with the collectors edition. It's not even close to a collectors item if it was mass produced. KMart had it for $30, so did Gamestop ($29.99). I've seen posts on the official forms of companies selling it for $25 with the normal box game for $10.
This is a serious blow to people that played the game. I'll never again pay full price for an EA game - because in less than a year I can pay 20% of the retail.
Either retailers are dumping what stocks they had that didn't sell, or the EA bottom line dropped. For CE owners, it really doesn't matter, this CE will never hold the value of a Warcraft vanilla CE, simple because it was mass produced and sold at bargain basment prices in the end.
This was not the Collectors item I was looking for. It's not even worth collecting .. double frown

SWTOR turned out to be one hell of a trainwreck didn't it...
Kinda glad I wasn't interested in it, mostly due to being a penny pincher. XD.
Well, it would be Kosher to talk about a game you voted for, ie bought.
If you didn't buy it, then you contributed to it's loss, right? (Like a voter that doesn't vote, yet complains about the competitor winning).
The example was for for real examples .. don't get your panties in a bunch, because It's not a game worth getting involved with, so no worries. Real gamers might get offended if you speak of a real MMORPG, which this game is not .
Sandbox is the future .. 2 games coming out ArcheAge and The Repopulation. Check those. SWTOR (ie SWG 2.0) isn't happening.

SWTOR is £9.85 at ShopTo Wait a bit longer it will soon be under £5
RIFT is £13.85

So i guess Rift is a failure too.....
I mean...why would you shop in Walmart in the first place?
To above, yes RIFT is a failure also.
But really this game's going to be FREE to download in a few months. Kudos on WalMart for extorting some idiots shopping at WalMart.
a yo ho ho
Some people like paper clothes?
Rift has been out for more than a year, and the longer the game is out the cheaper the game gets, so is natural for it to be that cheap, but SWTOR cheaper than Rift?
SWTOR is a failure Rift is not
Disclaimer: I have not played Rift, so my statements of failure is not a personal one of either MMO
Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
People have funny way to gauge failure and success on these forums. Not to mention that personal bais is always a strong factor.
Your reply just confirms my notion.
If you can check my sig I am still playing SWTOR, if my perosnal opinion of SWTOR is failure then I would not be playing it.
That is the impression the prices give off to people, if people do not know what each game is about, especially for a MMO - Why put time and money in a MMO when it may get shut down soon or go F2P?
Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
SWG was doing fine until the combat upgrade which is more than can be said of SWTOR. obviously you dont know what your talkiing about .
I guess we got it...
No you do not. failure is not my personal opinion, but overall SWTOR is a failure to the masses
Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
Even the most hardcore trolls would agree that SWTOR isn't shutting down any time sooner. So they are satisfied with F2P conversion..gives them some vindication.
However, F2P is not a rare event hese days. So i doubt people will stop playing MMOS only because they might go F2P in future. If that was true people would be only playing WOW or Rift and all F2P titles would have shut down the servers.
Ah, so you now give out your personal opinion as fact on what others think...
Yeah, I think we got it indeed right.
You really do not get it at all do you?
SWTOR had 1.7 mill subs at launch, SWTOR has about 500K subs now. Assuming that more people bought the game since the 1.7 mill was announceed, that is 500K people find the game not failure, but more than 1.2 mill say failure. The majority / masses say failure.
Do the same with most other MMOs, and the majority will say "success"
Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
I did not say SWTOR is shutting down. It is what people consider when buying ANY MMO. I have bought sveral MMos in the past, only to discover that shortly afterwards they are getting shut down, eg Auto Assault and RF Online, so they ended up being a waste of money and time, as never got all what I wanted out of them.
Games like Obi-Wan was a global failure as well, but there is more likely chance I would buy that game over a failed MMO, as Obi Wan can be played still whereas MMOs can not.
F2P does ruin games. LOTRO is not as good now as when it was P2P, and playing City of Heroes these days I do not recognise it, it is like playing a different game, and you are still led to buy stuff from the store even with a sub.
Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
It's going F2P that's probably why.
Who would even buy it now for any amount of money? Stupid people?
Its that price everywhere. They announced the game is going F2P in november, but until that time the game will be $15. If they hadnt reduced the price literally no one would buy it and just wait till november - now theres a chance that people will pick it up because its so cheap and they dont want to wait a few months to try it out. It would have been stupid for them NOT to reduce the price to this.
