As we near our launch, we will be implementing some features to combat gold selling and fraud. Every such feature won’t be highly visible, but in the case of the particular feature detailed in this post, your alpha accounts will be affected. However, many of you may never hit the limitations.
Each account, for the first 30 days after its creation, will have its ability to send coins through the mail and guild bank deposits restricted to the account’s net “profit." Profit, in this case, means anything gained from rewards.
This includes: Quests, dungeons, looting, map completion, events, and renown heart mails. All other sources of gold are excluded, such as: trading post, mail, and guild bank withdraws. For example: Earning 1 silver from events means you can send 1 silver through the mail or to the guild bank. You then cannot send more gold until you earn more through the allowed sources.
Currently, hitting this limitation via mail will give you an error message; messaging for this limitation via the guild bank is not yet implemented—it will just fail without giving you a reason.
This post is mostly a heads up, for in case any of you regularly send massive amounts of coin around.

Good stuff btw, even though I'm sure there won't be many gold sellers in this game, if any.

There is only one way to fight gold sellers/buyers: Perma ban for every gold seller and buyer first time they get caught. No nice mails, No 3day whatever ban. The risk must be high and it must hurt.
Specially for the buyers. Ban the buyers, advertise it. There's no excuse for buying gold from some annoying spammer in GW2, since you can do it totally legally via the official shop. You buy gold from some annoying spamming asshat? Perma ban for your account, go to the shop and buy another one, and learn your lesson that time.

We can buy gems for real money and sell those gems for ingame gold (Currency exchange)
that will keep most money sellers out. and with this new news they wont stand a chance
Hm that list seems more harmfull to legid players then buy/sellers.
Just ban the buyers/sellers sounds good on paper but as every mmo out there has figured out already isnt as easy done as its said.
Gold sellers will just wait out the 30 days for their sell accounts to be able to send money. Unless I'm reading the given info wrong it should not be restricted anymore after 30 days.
It's a slight annoyance in the start up, but they need time to build gold reserves anyway.
I admit for an organized WvW guild that wants to get a leg up on blueprints and siege crafting or for high end guilds with dedicated crafting to supply guidies with consumables then this will hurt. I suppose you have to make consessions somewhere to combat the scourge of the Chinese Gold Farmer.

Not really, this will kill them because before all they had to do was open a new account and start selling right away because inevitably the accounts get banned through tracking metrics. Now each time a gold seller account gets banned they will be required to feed Anet another box fee and then wait 30 days.

I dont mind makingc consessions to get the farmers out, but unfortunately, its only effective for the 1st month, after that it hinders new player but doesnt make an impact to farmers.
Ironic enough at the same time they endorse rmt at the same time. Through the tradeble gems. Though funny enough, this part will make an bigger impact on the proffessional RMT then the listed countermeasures
Subscription MMOs don't do that because they are afraid to lose a subscription.
In GW2, there's no valid reason not to ban people who buy gold from external sources.

Actually there are some legal issues, not to mention its 100% legal to "give" a friend or guild member items or currency.
How exactly are you going to suffer by this?
Wow so many post here are mistaken.
First It looks like a great idea, tho most of the account that sells gold are usually hacked account ,so this wouldn't solve anything for those..
Yea perma-ban for any seller and buyer is a nice initiative, the problem is the same, most of the spamming account are hacked account, rarely gold sellers buys account to spam with.
Saying that there is a in-game currency trade is by far off too. We will need to check the prices. Last time i checked a screenshot, It would cost a lot of real $$ for a few gold in game ( i know the rate will change ) but we will see. In diablo 3 even if you all think it's a fail game, gold sellers are there just because they are way cheaper than AH...
To block bot and gold sellers, i think the only good thing that can fight it is good management and society ( report them )
As for that, we'll have to consider GW2's terms and conditions and their rules of conduct. It is ultimately Anet's game and they decide what is legal and what is not legal with regard to their IP.
I don't see how this will effect organized WVW. If I have earned x amount of gold, I can either buy the siege weapon myself or mail the gold I have earned to someone else in the guild to make the purchase. The same would apply for organized crafting.
How so? It only applies for the first 30 days after account creation. When you roll an alt you'll be able to transfer gold to them from your main assuming you've played 30 days. It doesn't restrict receiving gold. I fail to see how it can effect legit players. You don't even need an AH alt really.
Without direct player trading, how is this supposed to work?
Paypal. Buy a load of resources on some dodgy russian website. Receive them through in game mail (which circumvented gold sell restrictions because they are resources). Trade resource for gold. Voila. Sounds complicated though and would have to be much more competitive than buying gems officially
And you think that will stop players from buying gold ? (not like this game needs any anw)
dude there are tons of ways to buy golds and live like a virtual king....gw2 will not be the exception trust me.
Sounds good to me.
It would be a very rare situation indeed for a legit player to be mailing out more money than they've ever even earned.
Yes it's reasonably clever actually.
What about people that trade on the trading post? You can make more gold than you can "earn" within the game there. People trading on the trading post are not allowed to feed gold to their guild for WvW? Also, does selling gems for gold count as "earning" it? Will this prevent people from buying gems early, selling them for gold and distributing that gold amongst friends and guild members?
first there is no market for gold sellers. you need some kind of a cash shop only item they every one wants or needs for EX. some items that chast 4000 gems ($50 for 4000 gems right now) and ends up selling in game for like say 1000 Gold this is the kind of item the opens it up for gold sellers here is why.
so you spend $50 to get your item or spend mounth's grinding the gold to buy it with in game gold remember this is an item every one wants. then gold sellers come in selling his gold for $40 for 1500 gold so know why pay $50 when you can pay $40.
so until there is some kind of item like that in the cashshop and at this time there is not and i do no think there will ever be one there is no market for gold sellers
