DAoC compared to WOW

I am a die hard World of Warcraft player and have never found any game that compares.  But I have an open mind and am downloading the free trial now.  I just wanted to hear some opinions of other people that play WOW and play DAoC and see what there comments are.

TO me, DAOC is a more time consuming game, which isnt good for casual or non-hardcore player. But, it has realy nice PvP system, with actualy tangible rewards. Hard to explain in short words but i will try:

WoW is more casual player, solo oriented with generaly very fun gameplay (might not be that fun at top levels, lack of high end content i hear, but not witnessed myself).

DAOC is more for group oriented people, with less solo and casual player friendliness but with great PvP and great PvP rewards.

Trial is good, but I personaly found out that trial did not show the whole beauty of DAOC (the PvP side that is). I personaly disliked the grinding part of DAOC, not that huge grind as in EQ, but still noticable in comparison to WoW. Last time i played DAOC was half a year ago, and there werent realy many quests you could do, very EQ like.

I hope someone who plays DAOC nowadays will have a more informative answer for you.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

DAOC is very much more a time consuming game.  ONce you get into the mid high levels it just takes for f'n ever to level up.  Travel time sucks and if you fall of your horse due to lag its the worst thnig possible :(

Good game over all though but its a true grind

I played one day of DaOC and 3 days of WoW. WoW>DaOC.

I still have two active accounts with DAoC.  I've played it since launch.  Although WoW can be fun, I lasted only 8 months in WoW.

Nothing (in my opinion) can beat DAoC's pvp system.  The realm versus realm aspect of it is what makes the game.

Like most things, it boils down to personal preference.

    Ok.

Here is the deal - I have played A GREAT DEAL of MMO's.....  and I always go back to DAoC.  Now - depending on your class - solo'ing may be viable in DAoC - and I have heard - you have no problems getting a group on the Classic Servers.

I played WoW - I even was going to try to go back to it again - I was just bored with it after the last level I got.image

Anyway - give it a shot - DAoC is quite a fun game.

DAoC will always be > WoW IMHO.

    Oh where to begin:
DAoC Juansanchez 50 Armsman Igraine - Back from the Grave
DAoC Prol 50 Necro Igraine - Back from the Grave
CoH Devient 28 Mace/Stone Tank *Retired*
    WoW Talgar 27 Warrior *Retired*
    Horizons Goledstadt 35 Dragon *Retired*
And many many others in many many games. But I always go back to my home in DAoC :)

When's the last time you played DAoC? Depending on the class you can hit level 50 (cap) in 3-4 weeks playing about 3 hours a day. Ya, that takes forever.

Teleportation makes horses almost obsolete. Travel time is faster in DAoC than in WoW nowadays.

DAoC blows WoW away in every way except maybe graphics IMO.

I found WOW perfect pace tbh! You see the whole game just before you get bored of it :P

Games like EQ and DAOC just repeat themselves too much and find urself getting bored of grinding

im not sure if trial has catacombs in it or not.

but realisticaly hardcore gamers can get certain classes in daoc to max lvl before they can in WoW

might not be as much fun grinding, but the difference is at max lvl thats when daoc starts and WoW ends.

It's obviously not many if he never played a game like WoW.

Graphics and leveling system in DAOC are alot different than WoW, like another person said DOAC leveling is more of a grind(IMO endgame that is fun forever justifies a 1-2 month grind). Quest leveling in WoW has spoiled these new people ::::01:: I don't think many of them will be able to get into older MMOs.

Really, huh. My first MMO was EQ1 and I played it for about 3 years. I've also played FFXI, SB and DAoC each for well over a year. This was mostly due to the friends I made online over the years.

So if ":", as you so eloquently put it Scaramoosh, means that you make friends and have fun raiding/questing/RvRing with them then yes, I am a huge ":"

But then again, you wouldn't know much about friends, because if you talk to people in game the same way you do here, I can imagine you don't have any.

Having played both each has it's strong points. If you want meaningful PvP the DAOC is the obvious choice. WOW had the best first impression of any mmorpg I have ever played, it's extremely friendly to the newbie and overall early level experience is just a blast, tons and tons of quests. While the PvE was great early on in WOW I found it to become quite boring at higher levels, and the PvP is severely lacking when compared to DAOC. Also I was very disappointed in WOW's class selection, DAOC blows it away in that area.

Both are fun, just depends what you're looking for, if it's PvP then DAOC is the winner, for PvE I'd say WOW.

Actually, there are many people who prefer not to level their characters beyond 24 and actually kill themselves off to prevent doing so. Battlegrounds in DAoC mean that you can pretty much jump into RvR any time you want. On Gareth there is usually action in every battle ground from level 1-44. On the older servers, many of the battlegrounds are less active, but the 20-24, 35-39, and 40-44 battlegrounds are usually active.

The only bad things about DAoC is the imbalance amongst classes, and the god awful boring pve grind. Killing the same spraggon with a different title over his head gets real boring real quick.

I wanna know the same thing-- How many MMO's you played?

My first started with shadowbane, and those graphics were good enough for me although not great. I know too many people that got a bit spoiled with the wow/guildwars graphics and cant play anything with worse graphics.

Id bet money your not gonna like daoc because it takes longer to get into that game than it does wow. Dont get me wrong-- Im a huge daoc fan. Best pvp of any game in my opinion. PvP is the reason why daoc is so much fun imo. Going to battlegrounds and fighting two other realms for a keep and doing big boy Realm Vs Realm endgame is a blast too.

Actually DAOC is a lot better then how it use to be and there really isn't any more over powered classes they actually just specified for advantages in certin types of battels.  Plus I think your talking about the vampirr and the banshiee which are good classes but can easly be beaten if you know what your doing.

I played WoW and DAoC. I cannot play games with graphics as horrible as DAoC. I stopped after only several minutes. Dont get me wrong, graphics do not have to be perfect....in fact i prefer graphics to be like WoW's or EQOA.

You must've not installed any of the graphical updates or anything. Hell, Darkness Rising blows away the competition on grounds to compete with EQ2 (imho anyway) if graphics are your only focus point. Just give a try in the trial but just remember that the catacombs and toa aren't installed so you can't get a 'full' glimpse at said game.

Saying that DAoC has terrible graphics is like saying that Pamela Anderson has really small boobs.

DAoC blows WoW away in almost every category. If you are in impatient gamer, then why even play mmos? Why not just play FarCry or Quake or something with instant non-stop action?

1.5 million people can be wrong. LoL, to prove that, just look at how many Americans (over 55 million) voted for Bush and the total chaos and insane record-shattering national debt that our country is in thanks to him. ::::39::

It is extremely sad isn't it? But atleast with the idiots buying NSync and Britney Spears albums, they aren't doing things like putting a man back in office that has sent thousands of American soldiers to their violent deaths or severe physical impairments (loss of arms, legs, etc) all over a total BS war that started out as invasion because Sadam refused to let our inspectors check for their non-existant WMDs, which turns out Sadam was honest that they didnt have any all along. But after the war starts... ohhh Bush can't admit he's wrong and pull out, noooo.... Now it's we gotta stay in and continue the killing of poor innocent 3rd world poverty-stricken civilians in Iraq AND more US soldiers all because Iraq was ruled by an "evil" dictator. Hmmm, if we start a massive war over every country that has an evil dictator, then we'll be going to war with a lot of damn counties. Osama Bin Laden still wanders free however. Meanwhile, minimum wage gets veto'd AGAIN by our hero Bush and in the US here, the poor get poorer, the rich get richer, and the working man goes further in debt... yet unbelievable, more then 55 million of us voted for this. Staggering idiocity.

I got to vote last year and I definetely voted Kennedy.. I mean heck.. he'd at least have done something with those hurricanes.. because he did win 3 (or was it 4) purple hearts. :D

But yeah.. I liked WoW but that was along the Bill Roper time he had with Blizzard so I never got to see the real deal in the beta.. *sigh* oh well.. I'm a better person for it now I guess ::::21::
