I hate the race to end game mentality. All these people do is bitch they have nothing to do anyways. I m usually in the last batch of players to hit end game, and guess what, usually theres more content released when I hit there, so I rarely get bored. As long as the game is good enough for me wanting to even get there.
They said that someone playing continously could gain a level every 1.5 hours or so (IIRC), so 80 would be exactly 5 days played, but considering that there will be people that will find optimal XP grinding spots and the first 20 levels take less (the time plateau is supposed to happen at around level 20), I'd bet 3 to 4 days before someone hits 80.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone manages it in under three days. As far as I can remember, there were already a few legit lvl80 characters during beta weekends from playing WvW.
I'd be extremely surprised to not see someone hit level 80 before the head start is over. That's nearly a certainty.
Pushing forward from that a bit, I think it's very likely we'll see someone hit 80 late on day 2 (august 26th). There are several extremely fast ways to get exp if one really wants to.
Fortunately, unlike what people are saying elsewhere in this thread, you are NOT missing out on anything by getting exp quickly. All leveling does is open additional content. You don't miss out on old stuff. If I quickly take off early and get up to level 50 on day one through a more traditional leveling path, there's nothing to stop me on day two from going back to all the lower level areas I "missed" because i'll be downleveled for that stuff anyway...resulting in roughly the same game experience as if I had gone there at the actual intended level.
Even if I quickly get to level 80 to get access to everything, I can still do this. I can go back and start exploring the map, I can do all the DEs along the way when I see something going on, I'll even be able to gear up/get karma etc for the neat level 80 stuff while doing all that. Pretty cool really.
You miss out on NOTHING by leveling quickly. It's an intentional design decision, giving you more content as you level, rather than simply changing which block of content you need to play in.
Those selected few who race to max level are the ones who love to flex their epeen and bombard the forums with hey look at me I'm first lvl 80 on my shard...hey look at me I'm the first lvl 80 in GW2.
When the epeen muscle getting slack they start whining on the forums and ingame chat how boring the endgame is or there isn't any endgame bla bla bla.
I'm working on a leveling-driven hamster wheel, to keep the servers powered during blackouts. Gonna hook these guys up and get some useful power from them.
Hope the bearings don't burn out.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
No doubt these wil be the same players complaining about the lack of "endgame" when they decided to skip everything frmo the get-go.
In wow and most of other mmorpgs, there was a reason to race to level cap, you get rewarded for statistical reasons.
In GW2, if you're racing to level cap, you're doing it wrong. And this is probably one of the biggest reasons why people are excited for GW2.
How can you skip content when the whole pretense of downscaling is going back to old content without it being completely trivial? Or is downscaling useless?
This pattern pops up in so many freemium games, forum posters QQ about 'the rush to endgame' and the game publisher spins marketing copy about how the whole game is end game and the leveling curve is flat.
The next thing you know XP boosts become one of the most popular cash shop items, and the game publisher is cranking out marketing copy about how much there is left to do after getting to max level.
this guy never play the game but is always giving opinion about GW2. if you go to TSW topic and if you play betas and give opinion there, that for him is useless since we taste almost nothing about game.

I was being sarcastic and making fun of how he ignored downscaling
