MMORPG's need a good Sci - Fi game! Enough with the fantasy. I have a feeling we will see an EQ4 before we see a GOOD mainstream Sci - Fi game.

    Mark Miller's TRAVELLER anyone?

Fantasy + Sci-fi but not in one game. I like to play a fantasy game if I'm in my Fantasy mood. And the same with Sci-fi. But not the stupid Starwars/Startrek sci-fi. Proper Sci-fi.

I'd love to see a good steampunk MMO created... wouldn't that be good fun?

Oh wait... how about a nice sci-fi western? Aliens in Stetsons! I've heard talk about one of these, actually, but nothing seems to have really come of it.

Well my favorite is definately fantasy, I grew up with D&D. But I would have to agree with other people that there are just too damn many fantasy mmorpgs out there. I would say its most people favorites(based on official poll by mmorpg.com) but it doesn't mean we wouldnt like to see something else out there. All the ideas above me sound pretty cool. I think the next big mmo will be one that combines all of the good things from recent mmo's and puts it into a completely off the wall setting. Don't ask me what that setting would be because i have no imagination.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

I think a marvelous game could be done based on Joss Wheadon's Firely universe.

Make it kind of similar to Eve without  the clean antiseptic atmosphere.

Basically a fun version of Galaxies

I like ones where the dev team doesnt get bogged down by a genre and do whatever the hell they want.  Like guns with swords; sounds like a good mix.  Or interplanetary ships with a society still in the castle age.  Also sounds cool.

Agreed on the Sci - Fi. These companies can crank out an endless parade of fantasy games but can't come up with a single original Sci - Fi idea. All we get is this half cooked licensed stuff like Star Wars Galaxies and the Matrix. Anarchy online is really just about the only thing out there and its a little bit dated. Weee so Sci - fi gets 1 decent MMORPG.

Regular PC games are packed with great Sci - Fi games, why are MMORPG companies so reluctant to do the same? Because it it doesn't fit the EQ clone template, thats why. How many different ways do you guys wanna play your Elves and Dwarves?

Mostly fantasy. Part of that is I have a better feel for how to get into different characters. Whereas the social interactions in the future are all abstractions.

I'd like to see some different Sci-Fi games too... The problem is a lot of the really interesting sci-fi doesn't lend itself to games. Slower than light travel, for instance, how would that work? You need a "warp drive" or something to get to different planets otherwise it takes centuaries.

I am strictly Fantasy. I started with Everquest 1 which i loved then moved to eqoa which i also loved and played several other games but they just did'nt do it for me. I would like to try Saga of Ryzom and World of warcraft. Fantasy is just so much more interesting to me then Sci-Fi, Historic or any other genre!

Magic-heavy Fantasy with mythological tie-ins.  I don't want to spend a huge amount of time learning that Fooburs are large reptilian creatures who love trees and grow pet Popos.  I'd rather be able to quickly determine key characteristics of the world from a known starting point.  Storyline can then be character-centric on top of that.

    Fantasy.

The lore in the games such as Everquest, World of Warcraft ect. is amazing and very interesting. But i have realized the newer games seem to be getting realy desperate when it come to their lore. I was reading the GW booklet that came with the game....it sounded like a story made up by some kid. Everquest on the other hand was very interesting.

I just realy like the choices of classes that they provide. It just gives you so many different styles of playing. I have only played a few games from other genre's and I am not at all impressed. Fantasy games are just realy fun.

I'd really like to see a mix of fantasy and horror in a mmorpg. Im kinda tired of the regular fantasy themes. I do also like sci-fi a lot but not really into the star wars/trek themes.

  • respublicarespublica Member Posts: 58

    fantasy & romance (RF Online)
    sci-fi (star trek online)

I, for one, wasn't aware that there were anyother genres of MMORPG. There's tolkien fantasy, and then there's...... some other kind of fantasy that really resembles tolkien.... but isn't..... en..... stuff.....
