[Poll]The art..........the landscapes.

AxiosImmortalAxiosImmortal Member UncommonPosts: 645

This game just makes me appreciate the art and the landscapes I took about 50 screenshots so far and it looks great. I'm kinda overwhelmed by the art to the point I don't want to notice it but It just looks so real and looks great. The art in this game just makes me appreciate the art of the game and makes me like the game even more besides PvP/WvW/PvE/Raids/Dungeons.

They're ok. Actually, they're as expected, which means they're good. They're not incredible. They don't make me stand on one point, and spend minutes just looking around. They're nice, and that's it. Some things are a bit odd. Like, that the sky, in the areas I have been in, is having a thick cloud layer, while there is sunshine with sharp shadows on the ground. It doesn't make much sense.

I think to be really impressive, Graphics either have to make a huge jump forward, which is hard to do these days, or add things you haven't seen before, or just rarely. Like, seeing on the horizont a storm brewing, and you know it will arrive soon. Or see clouds on mountain ranges, that you can climb. Such things.

But the GW2 landscapes are nice to look at nonetheless.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

The graphics are OK, average. Not really any good, not bad either.

    REALITY CHECK

I have my graphics on max settings...they look great to the point I can spend half the day exploring and looking at the landscapes.

Technically they are par for the course I guess. Artistically it's one of my favorites ever. It has a very oil painted look to it with almsot every brush stroke visible. The attention to detail is there too, wagon groves in trails, footprints from players, horseshoe prints, etc...

I know I've said this a dozen times since beta, but I love the art style of this game so much!

With maxed out graphic settings on a good rig the graphics I can best describe the graphics as "adequate."

Looking at tree trunks, for example, reminded me of the tree trunks in Darkshore many years ago. Bare with sharp angles. Character faces, arm and shoulders were a bit "blocky". An example that actually bothered me was the "stretch" idle animation on the human female. Looked like the shoulders were dislocated with some clipping. Some pixel stretch shading in the armpits gave the illusion of armpit hair.

Inside cities the shading was excellent. The character animation and art of the asura were good.

In summary: adequate for environment. Somewhat mediocre for characters.

If you are really impressed by the graphics of this game and that makes your day, you'll benefit by trying many more modern MMOs to get a better idea of what the range can be.

For me GW2 surpaces in this category any other mmo. only TERA comes close but gW2 still wins in varity. There is simply more unique textures and landscapes etc. I took far more than 50 screenshots =p

This is definitely a YMMV type of thing, largely based on taste.

I really like the look and feel of the game.  I like the watercolour theme, I like the detailing, I like the "cartoony"-ness of it (which I think wears much better than photorealism does), but others won't agree.  TSW for example has technically "better graphics", but I find it rather dull and boring as compared with GW2's world, which is more interesting eye candy for my eyes.

Trust me, I've already played other modern mmos and I know what the graphics are(which i never felt connected to the world because of the lolrestrictions I see blocking it) but the thing is I don't even think I mentioned graphics, if I did I don't think I'm talking about graphics in general. I only mentioned 2 specific things and it stood out to me then the other previous mmos that I've played. I haven't felt this connected to the world since SWG, SWG was a good game for its time. Again.....the art and landscape just looks so great in this game.

I think the art and environment of GW2 is solid. Nothing has blown me away yet, but it's a a step up, albeit not a huge one, from other high-fantasy MMOs. I'm pleased. That being said, I find the art and environment in TSW to be better. It's a good thing GW2 is free, otherwise I'd only be playing TSW.

They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair.
Played: UO, DAoC, AC, WoW, EVE, TR, WAR, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, GW2, TSW, ESO, Elite:D

I have to agree that the static art in TSW was fantastic, but the animations were just terrible. I am pretty leniant about animations normally but TSW's turned me off completely.

    I miss DAoC

It's a nice and refreshing style. I liked Rift for similar reasons. So far GW2 surpasses Rift because of the game mechanics and story. Graphically (tech wise not art wise) I think they're both close.

I think the Secrect World was horrible, and not just gameplay but honestly I was not impressed with the 5 years old FPS style graphics.

I have a hard time believing anyone would compare the two actually.

My wife has a better gfx card than I do and the game looks 100% better on higher settings than on lower.  On lower it almost looks like an updated WoW.  On her comp it's almost in TSW's league graphics wise.

You should have a middle of the road option in your poll as I'm definitely not blown away by the graphics environment wise but they aren't bad by any means.

My own personal taste... entirely subjective opinion...it's quite literally the most beautiful MMORPG I've ever played. The art style, the graphics, the tech, the UI, the concept art, the environment design, it all comes together and is just stunning and awe inspiring just about everywhere you look.

Daniel Dociu has now reached the status of one of my all-time favorite fantasy artists, I think he's a genius up there with the likes of Keith Parkinson. GW2 is amazing.

I also think the music is absolutely outstanding. I know that's not technically "art" for the game, but to me it's part of the same package...creating the look and feel of the world.

So yeah, I like it. :D

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

imo...pretty standard medieval fantasy art and setting.  By no means does it look bad but it certainly doesnt stand out as awesome.

There are better selling points on this game imo..stick with those.

I can compare the graphics for the two games easily. TSW is better in this regard. It's not that GW2 doesn't have good graphics/environment, it really does--it's just that TSW looks better, period.

As for TSW animations, not sure what version you played, but I love the animations. I really don't get this complaint.

But I'm not here to create a flame between GW2 and TSW. They are both good, and I plan to play both. Just giving my impressions after playing them.

I HATE Norn. HATE IT! My friend LOVEs it.

I love Human, it's bright, vibrant, than a turn for the worse with the enemy camps :)

Norn is just soo damn cold and.... plain. I don't know how to put it, it's just, blah.

Umm...I think you missunderstood my post.

This thread is about art and landscapes, so when I sead swimming at the lion arch means it is a good example how well made the underwater landscapes are and how in general the world is built with attention to details, artstyle and visual apealing landscapes.
