B2P appears to have become a built-in excuse for a lack of meaningful content at endgame, horrible customer service, broken systems, and a general lack of player longevity.
Of course there are games worth a sub.
TSW is worth a sub.
EvE is worth a sub.
There are many others.
I rather just "Buy it, play it, and forget it". No wondering if I forget to unsubscribe because I haven't play it in a while. No fuss no muss just like the games of old. Get back to it when I want to and don't have give out ANY credit card info.
Yes, the $15 a month is paying for new content, and access to the full game. A sub is basically a guarantee of new content every few months.
An in game cash shop can only make money if people are buying, and GW2 has a terrible cash shop. I was planning to spend a ton of cash on it, but then I found out it's a bunch of one use crap and the armor skins (Which I bought all of in GW1 and loved) require you to buy other items from the cash shop to even wear. None of it is worth real money, and I can't imagine anyone with a fully functioning brain would buy anything from it with real money.
This is not true at all. There is no guarantee of this. In fact, WoW and Swtor have updates very sparsely now.
WoW just had a major update, though it's been a while because of the pre-xpac drought that it always has, and EA / BioWare runs TOR, so bad buisness is to be expected.
Problem is WoW is nearly the only one, and it certainly doesnt cost them anywhere near the billions of dollars theyre making each year to come up with those content patches.
Aside from a few games like WoW and EVE, a sub is a guarantee of nothing. The majority of games only release new content in the form of expansions, and there is a low number of games that offer even that much. Much of the market out there hasnt even had a decent patch that did anything besides fix a few bugs in a long time. Just look at WAR. The only content addition has been LoTD which was added IIRC nearly 3 years ago (not very long after launch). Since then theyve actually removed content from the game, or either admitted they stopped working on X feature but "We promise new (insert feature) improvements and drastic changes are coming" only to never be seen. Unfortunately thats kind of the norm with most devs.

Yes, I can agree with that ( on a personal level ) as I haven't really found any game besides EVE and Fallen Earth ( that is out currently, or released in the last few years). That's been worth that sub to me. I like games with player ownership, player interaction, player run economy (all crafted wares, harvests, etc). Games like this will always be worth a sub to me, if done well, as the game becomes something more than a content factory or treadmill. There's real downtime from combat, meaningful player interaction (Not just within PVP groups/ Guilds). Interaction on a community level, where people are chatting with those in eye shot of each other and world chat is quiet due to it ( for the most part).
I've never felt a problem paying for games like that.

What bothers me is whenever I get bored of GW2 for whatever reason, there's absolutely nothing on the market that interests me nor is there anything on the horizon that interests me.
I'm curious about EQ next but we aren't going to see that any time soon...and since there's no real information about it, it could just be more crap.
no game deserves monthly fee, except there is a whole team updating the game everyday with new content not just fixes and users who manipulate the world bosses or events in the worlds...
so far i havent see any game like that, it sounds crazy..!
I remember a time when MMO subs were $10 per month. Funny thing is, the server infrastructure costs have dropped, the price of the terabyte has never been so low, yet the subs have increased.
To answer the OP quests, I wouldn't pay another sub right now even if GW2 had a sub itself. The game keeps me busy all my free time, and also, once you tried the GW2 combat and dynamic world, it's very hard to play a "icon over head go kill 10 rats" WoW clone model at the same time.

Those who voted No never belonged in the MMORPG space to begin with, so perhaps we'll soon see their exodus, leaving the genre to the rest of us.
Currently paying for 3 subs in MMO's that offer features that GW2 is sorely lacking in.
Don't agree at all.
I have been playing MMO's since 2004 now, and while there were games that if they still existed or something like them existed I would pay a sub fee for, currently as we stand now there is nothing that I find worthy of paying a subscription for.
As far as fantasy MMO's go GW2 is as good as it gets for me currently I don't see anything else on the market that is better value for money.
I would pay a sub in the future if the right game came along but it doesn't look likely not in the next year anyway.
Haters gonna hate, but fact is that GW2 has more content than any other MMO have had at launch. Not to mention sPVP and WvWvW which is endless content. I would pay double subs for a game of this quality. All sub games out there ATM is just bland and boring, same old crap without requireing any skill.
The future doesn't look bright either when you look at upcoming games. This is the closest thing to DAOC 2 i'll ever get.
I like GW2 as much as the next man but that line in yellow is BS.
Eve Online is the only game I know of worth subbing. Guild Wars 2 is free. Planetside 2 is going to be free. This year is going to be the best year to be a PC MMO gamer!
Yes,if the game is more fun for me than gw2 then sure it is worth a sub.Guild wars is fun enough but it didn't make me want to log into it as much as possible, maybe because pvp is less fun than I expected ,too much running around and not enough fighting (probably being on a rp server don't helps with that ).
When i saw Anets evidence i realized just how right they were. Subs only exist to fill the pockets of the execs they do not in any way improve gameplay or content of any game. They do however force the players to be in a game longer then any other game out there to do anything meaningful increasing the grind to crazy insane levels gotta keep that money flowing you know. It also provides a nasty atmosphere for the devs because they usually only listen to the players wants when the game begins to lose subs en masse.

Exactly. :-) Nothing new, same was with GW. I do not eat crap even if free. Prefer to pay to have decent dinner.
GW2 isn't free.
Also, it's naive to assume that not having a sub has no impact on the game's popularity. Not needing to enter your credit card information is going to be very popular with people who don't have their own credit cards.

I have a Rift sub which I will keep, then I'll probably resub to WoW for a couple of months for Pandas.
Of course, that doesn't count the non-MMO games I'll buy (AC3, Torchlight, etc.) Any sub game is a good value compared to a non-MMO.

To me another valid question is : Even without a sub, is GW2 worth the box price ?
And my answer still is : NO, not even close.
I can't help but agree.

Odd, I resubbed to WoW and bought the expansion AFTER playing GW2. <shrugs>
