I still think L2 is the best. Like said before, how WoW has it own stayle, as does L2. L2 has there anime style. Which is pretty good. And the up coming Chronical 4 will add ever better textures! ::::01::

=_=  As a 3d modeler you insult me by saying EQ2 are the best done graphics.  EQ2 graphics tax the system and really heavily on high poly counts then proper texturing.  Peoples skins are the same shade across thier entire body if they have no fur, when in reality people have atleast 5 destinguishing skin tones across thier body.  I would definetly say Lineage 2 has far better graphics then EQ2 despite using an engine that is less then 2 years old.  Its because the modelers actually took time to do the textures well.  Other games on par with this are Risk your Life, and Gate to Heaven.

I am talking purely on graphics not gameplay.  One game coming out that is on par or even better then Dungeons and Dragons online is Grenada Espada.  Also Ragnarok Online 2 is looking good.  So is Hero's journey.  This is purely on an aesthetic mood.  Some things being done in those 3 games have effects that dont actually seem possible with the unreal 2.x engine.

I'm still thinking WoW is the best. But to be honest...I can't think of why it wouldnt be. You can level your entire way to 60, whilst constantly being on a quest. (A lot of games I've tested can't even do a simple thing like that!!)I.e., your not just grinding for the sake of it, but your going to get a big XP bonus at the end. In terms of PvP, well its just about the same as other games and has open PvP.
So yeah, I'm gonna wait for the next gen of MMOGs. I've already played all the popular MMOs and out of all of them WoW held my interest for the longest till I had to leave for personal reasons. Although WoW was my first game, so nothing really compares to your first game. But I guess its sorta like, once you've played one you've played em all! Thats how similar a lot these games are at the moment.

Are you joking? Blizzard invented quest grinding, which is just as boring as normal grinding. They baby you the entire way through the quest, then pile EXP on at the end just to make you happy. More intellegent players can see right through this, but for others it's basically like giving a treat to a dog to keep it on a loose leash. The first MMO I played was RO, and I wont ever go back to playing that game.

FFXI has some of the best graphics out there. They aren't Disney and cartooney like WoW, and they aren't too shiney like RFO. They make good use of their poly count, and create a more serious theme for the game. It's the kind of graphics you can get caught up in. The sunsets, sunrises, and weather effects are amazing. While I played WoW, I felt like I was playing some sort of Nickelodeon cartoon. It had it's own style I suppose, but it was cartoonish and watered down.

L2 looks pretty good, EQ2 looked pretty good but my graphics card doesn't have cel shaders so I'm unable to really try it out. RF online had some nice character models but the enviromental design needed a lot of work.

Hmm i played most mmorpg's since EQ1 until WoW more recently, and haven't found better graphics than Ryzom's.

I find watching the lights, weather, seasons change in Ryzom mindblowing.

The best part is even with dozens of npc's and players on screen, there is zero lag.

Graphics are a matter of taste though, like everything else.

In terms of pure graphics engine power...I think EQ2 blows any competition.  But in terms of what is more pleasing to the eye it's either L2 or WoW, depending on the taste of the player.

And I am only talking about games that are actually commercially available in the market as of yet.

The problem with EQ2 is, it eats up too much ram due to the polygon count, but there are practically no texture details in characters compared to L2.  I'm not saying the characters in L2 look better than EQ2, but the armor & weapon textures and shading in L2 are still one of the top offered in the market, eventhough the Unreal 2X engine is quite old.

The result is, yes EQ2 graphics look dull, and some what like clay-mation, even though the game engine can produce something so much better.  In this sense it comes to show you how much L2 developpers sacrificed alot of time into modeling and texturing.

I personally prefer L2 graphics still over alot of other games, but I don't play the game due to the grind.
My friend on the other hand, who has played both L2 and WoW, says he prefers WoW's graphics.  He admits the game is cartoonish with bright colors, but prefers WoW's graphics in terms of variety in character modeling, lush and bright environments (fruity).

In the end it all depends on the players' taste, but alot of people will admit L2 graphics are more "pleasing to the eye" in terms of texturing and rendering, compared to something like EQ2 where the developpers took no time in making more out of a game engine that is very powerful.

GRIND sucks? You wanna be max level in a month?
Since when did society award easy-goers and lazy-fools?

This is an opinion thread right?

EQ2 has better graphics then L2 (asthetically speaking image).  L2 is good for sure, but I can't get into the anime style.  Personally, I think Age of Conan looks really good so far.  Can't wait to see the game itself.

Qualifyier: I have played both EQ2 and L2.
