Q- "Greetings everyone,
I was wondering how many of you would be willing to purchase small expansion packs each month? I am only level 11 and I’m already worried about “finishing” the game too soon, please don’t hate me for writting that, but that’s just how I feel.
I think that arena net could introduce small content updates, like mounts, new events, quests, races etc… through the black lion trading company, you could buy certain single or a bunch of contents for gems. I woukdn’t mind paying 5-10 euros each month, to help the developer and the game and of course my interest to grow.
What are your opinions on this?
See you ingame, cheers"
A- "No need to buy them, Gw2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from Gw2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for.
On top of a large amount of free bonus content, we will be expanding on offerings in the Black Lion Trading Company going forward, as well as be doing large-scale expansion content down the road.
We’ll cover a lot of the details on the kind of support and plans we have in place over the next month or so on the Gw2 blog and with our press partners.
We do appreciate that you’d like to buy lots of new content, but we’d prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, cause that’s what we think a responsible MMO company does!"

Subscription models just got served.
Thems are fitein words
I hope Arenanet shows how badly a certain company has been treating their subscriber's over the years.
Proof will be in the pudding.

Bite Me
agreed..
Even though that very game they "hate" most likely provided them with entertainment for a long span of time,in which they kept indulging.

Anet says Hi to TSW and WoW fans
You pay $15 a month to access, if youre lucky, one or 2 updates a year. $15 =/= free.
Approx 9-10m subs at $15 a month.... Blizzard is making $1,000,000,000+ per year to give you those "free" updates.
i hate the idea of P2win but i am very happy about the news of expanded items in the cash shop. i want to be able to give them money to support them but at the same time get something back as a token of appreciation. something not game breaking but cool, such as dyes, town clothes, or alternate skill animations. which they have shown are very capable of doing.

You get free content updates in TSW. You would pay the sub if they did or din't have the semi monthly updates. They don't cost you more.
[mod edit]
you make it sound has if sub based games are a rip off..they are not.this game is 2 weeks old..lets see in a year if they deliver or not.all these games promise the world and deliver the same as always..the content depends on their income..if its not successful then you wont see has much content has you would like..thats for sure..sorry if i,m pesamistic but i have been burned by sub based games that make an income on a monthly basis and still get no content.they are relying on the CS imo..if that flops..well you know the rest.dont get me wrong ,i love the game but i,m very wary.
If anything the cash shop will be updated to include character remakes, gender changes, more costumes, and probably bigger than 20 slot bags just like the original Guild Wars cash shop is.
I've spent about $40 in the shop now, and will continue to spend ~$15 a month buying random stuff in place of a sub fee. I enjoy the game and I feel I should support them as I enjoy it.
As for expansions, oh man I cannot wait to see Cantha with the visuals of Guild Wars 2. Despite being super short, Cantha was my favorite expansion for the original Guild Wars, so I can imagine what it will be like this time around.

And that is the reason for my distaste (not hate) of a company (not a game) stem's. A company that is making billion's from loyal paying fans and charging them $35 to watch a fan event over the internet is beyond, as far as I'm concerned.
IMHO companies that behave in this manner need a good slap from the market place.

If they deliver on what they say then it will be amazing but a cynical person may say that they are telling the players or more importantly potential players what they want to hear. The measure of this will be what they actually supply on a 'free' basis compared to what they supply in paid for expansions with the worry being that they push out a few keynote freebies to promote interest in a paid for expansion.
If they do deliver on what people are expecting from those few comments then it will be a major shift in the MMO market, well worth keeping an eye on.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
I think your comments are "funny." Not pertaining to specific posts by anyone in this thread, but you're commenting in a GW2 thread with people expressing a bit of happiness about some dev comments by calling them fanboys. What seems to be quite clearly evident is that you yourself are a fanboy of a different game showing your bias, jealousy and what must be an attempt to trash anything positive about a game that is not the one you choose to "back." Every day I wonder why I keep reading these forums, and yet I keep doing it. It's obvious that multiple game forums/communities just lead to utter rubbish.
So what are you paying sub for then if not for content updates?
