I love gw2 but the lack of a lfg tool is really becoming a problem for me. Today I wanted to do the AC dungeon on story mode. So, as everyone else, I asked in map chat for a group. I got no takers, so I repeated my request perhaps 5 times in 15 minutes or so. Then I tried to repeat my message one more time and found out I am now blocked from chat. It says "your message was suppressed due to excessive messaging" . I was in no way spamming. They have removed my ability to get a group in a game in which they failed to provide a group finder tool. The really funny thing is a gold seller has been spamming map chat for 12 hours straight now and they can't stop him. Everyone was complaining about it in map chat. But they can certainly stop me from asking for a group. There is no way to speak to a GM either. It's like the lights are on but nobody is home. All I can do is submit a ticket and hope in a week or two they might answer it. This is getting ridiculous.
*Update*
*As I posted later in this thread the true issue is with the random chat bans without reason. I have no problem with the lack of a group finder or the limited group finder in game, as long as chat or other means to find a group are available to me.*

are you not in a guild? with not needing any certain class to run a dungeon it's pretty damn easy to find 4 other players from just my small guild of friends.. and if that fails i can represent another guild i'm a part of which is much much larger.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. I have to first wonder, where do you search for group memebers. Because I always search in Lion's Arch first and once I've got at least 3 people together, I'll head to the zone the dungeon's in and search there. Usually takes 5-15mins tops. Also about gold sellers, yeah they are surprisingly becomiong a problem. I had to block 4 of them the moment I logged in. Did you block & report them, instead of just complaining?
Anyway for now I don't think the game needs an LFG tool, however about 2-3 months down the line and the number of concurrent users has declined. Then yes, it would be a good time to implement one. However I'd rather they go for something simlar to Rusty Heart's partying tool (the one I remember in beta), where you can look through a lobby of parties and join one that is about to do the bit of content you want to do.
What it needs is open groups / warbands feature from warhammer for both WvW and outdoor pve.
You mean mouse acceleration.

Well all I can say, is make friends to play with, join a guild, be social, then you rarely have to beg for a PUG
I'm guessing you have never seen people with little people and a magnifying glass over their head? have you never clicked the contacts button and gone to the LOOKING FOR GROUP tab? WHICH, shows you people in your area looking for group?
I'm guessing you haven't because, well... This entire topic is about it.
It's already in the game.
^ this, lol.
Move along now, nothing to see here.
I can do none of those things if I cannot use the chat functions, which were unavailable to me for almost 3 hours. I have no idea why I was being suppressed, and that is my real issue. I have no problem finding a group through conventional means. But if they are going to suppress my only way of finding a group without an explanation, then what am I to do?
I must admit that when I posted the OP, I was a bit flustered. First off, I am the last person to flood the chat channels or be offensive. I was a bit shocked and disheartened that I had been suppressed for some disciplinary action that was never explained and no warning given. I guess that is my real complaint. I need no group finder. For 13 years I have found groups through a variety of means and can continue to do so. I think I'm just a bit culture shocked at the strange, robotic policing program in this game. It seems like there must be an automated system of some sort that scans the chat and "boots" people.
As a matter of fact, I am a sandboxer at heart and am a bit ashamed of myself for having authored a posting suggesting a game needs a group finder. WTH is happening to me? FML....
GET
A
GUILD!
Seriously, is it hard for people to comprehend? I mean, that's what a guild is for. It's a collective of players who get together and work together for like-minded objectives, goals and fun, friendly times. Besides that there's a whole "Friend's List" to fill up with people you play with on your ways that can be contacted to do other things as well. Whispers are also good if you see someone in the area that seems like they look like they want to do what you want to do as well.
BE SOCIAL!
Again, there's no need for an anti-social tool like a LFG. Those things only encourage spamming a /join button and running 'as quickly as possible' runs of an instance without any friendly interaction with other players. And I do mean "without any friendly interaction"; because the players that come across those things are trolls, tools, and totally rude people that I'm surprised live in this day and age society instead of some grunting cave somewhere.
A.) You did not read the thread. I have reversed my position on this.
B.) Since your big flashy post seems to want to take the game's title quite literally, I think we should continue that line of thinking and ask ourselves Where are the "Guild Wars" in Guild Wars? I know, I know, just saying is all....
I think that being in a guild, or atleast a large guild should be an optional component of a game. The exception being games such as Darkfall where most game systems and activities are based around guilds. Guild Wars is absolutely not built around guilds, there is a very strong irony in that.
You assume that I am not social. Why? If you read the OP, I was being social and finding a group the old fashioned way happily. The real issue was having chat privileges taken from me without reason. I wish people would read before responding.
No LFG / Dungeon Finder too is an epic failure... And endless proof to back up my claim.
SWTOR - No LFG tool, game failed, people complained, they added LFG tool (too late)
EQ2 - No LFG, game did much better (however it had EQ1 rep to ride on), eventually added LFG tool
WoW - Eventually added LFG tool (pretty early on) and has been going strong ever since. Leveling even 8+ years after release you can jump into dungeons pre-endgame and enjoy older content very quickly. Max level instances are easy to find groups for and players who don't devote their lives to the game can log in, play an hour or two, run an instance or two, and log off...
GW2 - No guild = no instances. Spamming the local area channel /map only reaches players in the small zone you're in. Many of the instances are located in zones much lower level than when you actually would do the instance so doing other things in that zone isn't terribly enjoyable.
Bla bla bla...
Ignore the select few who claim LFG tools are bad. GW2 already has auto grouping which reduces the need to ever talk to another player. This makes finding groups even more difficult. They need a tool...
It's been several days since I hit 80 and I still haven't found a group to run the top level instance. I log in, spam / read chat for a while while doing something on my other computer and eventually log out bored.
Can't check right now since I'm at work but GW2s LFG tool is in the game.
- Click on contacts
- first option is friends as far as I remember
- second option is the LFG- under it as a third option you have the "followers" which are people that added you as friend while you didn't
If there is another one in between then the LFG Tool would be the third option and followers the fourth.
As about the argument of being social that goes on and on in several threads I can only say that it's not the games fault, it's the players fault.
The game gives tons of possibilities to group no matter if there is the auto grouping in DEs and Hearts involved or not.
However, people that like to group and chat will do it no matter what a game type is or what a game offers.
People that want to rather play solo even in MMOs and only chat or group up when forced to do so (like in the dungeons, structured pvp and partially WvsWvsW), won't go and group up in hearts or DEs.
The game gives you the freedom of choice, if you are social enough you will team up and chat with people even if it would be a puzzle game.
If you are rather a "loner" you will avoid contact till really nessecary.
I've been playing since early game access and I haven't done any dungeons yet.
I'll just wait till ANet adds actual LFD with insta-porting to the instance on getting a full group. This is industry standard these days and it's a bit sad GW2 doesn't have such an essential feature.

That is good advice but I think OP have a point. I probably wouldnt use it much but a tool would not hurt anyone not using it but help the ones who like it. And it is relatively easy to add to the game.
As long as it isnt cross server it is good (Xserver tends to make the community worse since knowing the people on your server is what makes a good community).
The LFG tool is there, just no one uses it and its pretty well concealed, they need an improved LFG tool, not dungeon finder but I understand some people are too thick and seeing LFG "OMG NO DUNGEON FINDER!".
We just need a better way to find people that want to do the same thing as you do, as it is now you need to just teleport to a few cities and shout. Then go to the area which most of the times isnt the correct level of the instance so if people are not already stationed there LFG then you wont find correct level people around anyway.
When I can't find a group I just start one and I'm in the dungeon within 10 minutes.
Take the initiative.

Why dont you use the Looking for Group tool in game?

If you personally don't need this tool - don't use it. And let others decide what's good for them, OK?

It does not work that way. LFG change game. Whenever you personally use it or not.
-----------------
Anyway - GW2 propably will have cross-server LFG with teleporation. GW2 is very casual mainstream themepark product.
Good one - but still it is.
Devs will go this way with this game. Areas sPVP already have cross-server LFG with teleportation.
Game have practically unlimited teleportation everywhere.
Soon you will be able to jump between server's PvE.
While I don't like automated LFG's with teleportation myself and I prefer mmorpg's without it (to the point LFG's drive me away from games) - GW2 is not type of game that won't have it. I just don't believe.
