I miss hunting for elite skills.
I miss making builds,.
I miss having heroes,
I miss mixing up heroes to maximize effectiveness.
GW2 should have:
Made elites harder to get.
Secondary classes.
The metagame in GW1 was far far FAR superior to GW2 metagame.

GW1 sucked.

While I did like the skill system in GW1 because it was like building a Magic The Gathering deck, I think you have rose coloured glasses on.
Some skills were better than others which rendered bad skills obsolete and what you were left with was a handful of builds, with some classes have one or two viable builds.
Guild Wars 2 offers so much more variety in the weapons, class and race skills and traits. Your playstyle drastically changes from one build to the other.
GW2 is a better game solely because it has jump.
I would rather give up jumping and bring back the dual class 8 slot skill system.

I really liked GW1. And for me, like all my GW1 buddies, it was a our #2 take-a-break MMO. Sure, some played it more heavily and for longer 'heavy' times. But everyone took multiple-month/year breaks from the game because it was limited.
Sure, there were tons of skills, but that made the complexity over-whelming and we all ended up with cookie-cutter farming builds off the PvX wiki. Which is what ends up happening in every skill-bloat game. People migrate to the most effective build-set and innovation is done.
Yes. Exactly.
Ya GW1 is still on my HD, can t say the same for 2.
Don't get me wrong GW2 is prettier, has more content and that great open world feel. I just feel like they dropped the ball when compared to hunting for skills - even normal ones in GW1.
You had to go out and find the NPC skill trainer with the particular skill you wanted or just the skill trainer at the end of the game with all normal skills. You could even pick up skills from quests. Elites were just great to get, you didn't need complete access to the tree in order to make an interesting build.

A.Net said they were not going to have 2 professions as it is hard to balance a game that way. Balance is a key problem in GW1 - too many really goofy OP builds. I don't miss heros at all - it made the game a SSO because you didn't have the social aspect.
A.Net said GW2 was going to be different. I like GW2 and GW1 for different reasons.
Same... still working on my Trophy room.
You see, I'm not talking about those aspects. I am only talking about the skill system, nothing else.

My theme song.
and ohers are talking about how Gw1 is better all around. Cant have one without the other.
While they said it would be diffferent I also remember this quote "We've taken everything you loved from GW1 and put it into a persistent world"
I don't believe that. The only things they took from GW1 was the lore.
Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?
Ya thats flat out BS. If it was like that, got rid of the stupid spam fest DEs I would still be playing. It s not even close at all. I know alot think it s better, I just can t stomach the game of GW2, I guess I thought it would be GW1 in a persistant world, which was said, and it was so far from it, I was severely disappointed.
Hunting elites is awesome, unless there is only a couple of useful elites for your class and they are all way into the game and so you play most of the game with a crappy build.
Having tons of skills is cool, until you realize a large majority of them are just inferior or too situational.
Secondary professions is awesome until you realize Necromancer was the best all around PvE caster, doing the job of most other caster classes better, Elementalists are the best monks, monks are the best nukers and Mesmers are the best all around PvP caster.
Or maybe that Assassin and Warrior were better scythe users than the Dervish.
Balance nightmare.
You can still create builds in GW2, but you don't have heroes, although GW1 melee heroes were sissies.
GW2 combat is much more engaging than GW1 combat though.
Currently playing: GW2
Going cardboard starter kit: Ticket to ride, Pandemic, Carcassonne, Dominion, 7 Wonders
Seconded.
It may sound silly, but being restrained along the vertical axis is a pretty big deal. I can't tell you how annoyed I was when I kept having to run all the way down a hill instead of just dropping 4 feet to the bottom in GW1. It made the game feel very confined.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
Whatever it is, I liked it and there are many games listed here at mmorpg that are every bit as instanced.
The skill setup was better in GW1.
To me what we have is some things better in GW1 and some things better in GW2. Now we just have to wait for GW3 to get it all with more intersting drops which neither game had.
Then we can all rejoice.
