MMORPG with many classes

I have been playing Never Winter Nights and i absolutely love their class system, theres so many and you can have more than one :). kind of like guild wars 'cept GW only has 4 classes. i'm looking for a good MMORPG, i dont care about genre, i'm not picky. But i want a game with lots and lots of classes, i think it makes the game less predictable. if anyone has any suggestions or just a good game they want to mention, please post it. oh, and please dont flame if i sound like a total noob, i'm just looking for a game untill Age of Conan and Roma Victor come out. thanks

DAoC.. umm.. Ragnarok Online.. Lineage 2.. EverQuest had plenty.. So does FFXI but if you want 'tons' try out DAoC, every class is different but a little same from each other but good enough to be stated as different.

cool, i'll look into DAoC, oh. does it require a very good computer? i only have a pentium 4, 1.4gHz and 256 mb RAM. its crap....

SoR has no class at all, but tons of skills and you can developp each and everyone of them...if you put the effort in them.

If you liked NWN, you might also want to try the free MMORPG, Rubies of Eventide.

Your computer could probly run DAOC. Maybe not the latest graphical updates in Catacombs, but calssic client - for sure.

The classic cliant won't connect to the servers anymore, they changed that awhile back.

Dark Age of Camelot would probably fit you well. Tons of races and classes. You would be hard pressed experiencing all 3 realms before burnout. Each realm is almost a game onto itself.

World of Warcraft has a pretty good "standard" selection.

okay, i was looking at DAoC and i was seriously considering it but then i learned it doesnt connect to servers anymore :- what is SoR? sound pretty good but all i've ever heard is SoR, never a real name.

SoR has like four classes. I'm sorry, it's a good game but you'd be lying out your bum if you want to say 'many classes'

I think you're missunderstanding. The original client doesn't connect to the servers true, but that client also isn't being distributed anymore either. If you download the 14-Day trial you will be able to try it out just fine and see if you like it. :) DAoC has 44 classes spread across the 3 realms for the record. :)

Lemme know if you have any further questions. :)

Impaler, desert forager, wayfarer, avatar of destruction, healer, light armorer, jeweler etc..

Ryzom got tons of classes that branches into further specializations.

Shadowbane has 23 classes and 12 races
  • ZhanghiaZhanghia Member UncommonPosts: 1,312
So? I guess DAoC has even more if you want to label 'crafting' as a 'class'.
  • anthraxanthrax Member Posts: 72

okay, i looked at Ryzom, looks... amazing. but i checked out the specs and it REQUIRES 512 mb RAM, i only have 256 on this shit box :- Shadowbane i tried and liked but it wasnt my type, at least not something i'd want to p2p. i've heard mixed thigns about AC, i know its old but i think it looks real good. SWG, i'm not a big star wars fan. DAoC, looks like tons of fun but i dont think my ghetto box can handle the catacombs. WoW i have already played and gotten bored of... i really am seriously considering getting a better computer solely (spelling/context?) for Saga of Ryzom, it looks astonishing. so if anyone has any more suggestions keep them coming, its lots of fun just looking at the games lol.

btw, this is my first successful thread (over 3 posts) EVER :) i feel so accomplished LOL

    (sorry to the OP)

Well, a class is a major change.  SoR has no class, but it has TONS of skills, and the gameplay vary significantly with every different skill you use, differents ways of playing.

I play DAoC, it has a decent amount of class, but it can't feel as big as a skill based game, I mean, wielding a 2 handed sword or a 2 handed axe is a different skill that goes up all the way to 250, yes they share some commons grounds...but they are differents...and we don't even start to consider the many differences.

I don't play SoR and don't plan playing it again, but to someone looking for many class only, SoR beat the others MMOs I tried.  CoH could beat DAoC as well, since it has an artificial 30-40 class or so per AT.

DaoC has great edges of it own, like the best RvR system (that saddly shaft PvE players and non-raiders, so doubled shafted in a case like me).  But class wise, it is not even in the same league for someone looking for diversity.

Back to the OP....can your computer run CoH?  Althought officially there is only 7 AT, the primary and secondary actually make your class and even after that, there is some customisation that can make you a little differents from others of the same set.

well, i have a 512 mb RAM computer.... but WoW crashed it O_O so i'm stuck here untill i can get a better comp up and running. i played CoH, WoW, GW, AO, Shadowbane, Runescape, Knight Online, the list goes on and on, currently i'm playing Anarchy Online and Guild Wars. CoH and WoW lag horribly on this computer, GW lags in cities.

Horizons has a good number of classes(I forget how many but around 15 I think) and races. It's pretty much the only MMORPG at the moment where you can play as Dragon and fly(from hatchling, adult, to ancient over time as you level).

  • ZhanghiaZhanghia Member UncommonPosts: 1,312
When a game's only catch is being a dragon, you know there's something wrong.
  • saturn1234saturn1234 Member UncommonPosts: 111

Dude the Saga of Ryzom is really bad....sorry. Anarchy Online is a better game, and thats saying a lot.
I thought Saga look amazing too from screenshots, but the gameplay and control scheme really ticked me off. Nothing unique here either. The spell effects are really sweet though.

If you want to experiment with alot of cool classes, like in NWN, definately go with Dark Ages of Camelot. By for the most fun for this. It doesnt take forever to level up to getting fun skills and stuff. I played the free trial a few times and had tons of fun, then went back to World of Warcraft.

You might also want to give City of Heroes/Villians a try. There are a bunch of possible classes. Making a character in that game is super fun. Good community also in my experience.

But in all honesty, the quality of mmorpgs compared to WoW is just not comparable. It saddens me so much because every day I come here and see if there is something new that can quench my mmorpg thirst, but WoW is the only one that does it for me. Everything else just seems cheaper......whether it be graphics, gameplay, story, or character developement.

And to the person who recommended EVE, dont ever do that, the poor guy might actually go and try that "game". It is not a game, nor is it fun at all. Its probably the biggest joke of an mmorpg I have ever wasted my time on.

Rubies of Eventide is too empty and buggy to even bother with.

  • saturn1234saturn1234 Member UncommonPosts: 111

Horizons is CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. The cities seem empty and the game has not structure to it. You basically kill monsters til they give no more exp, and then ask in general chat where to find the next batch of monsters to kill until they give no more exp.
One of the worst mmorpgs I have ever played.

  • TorakTorak Member Posts: 4,905

What do you mean it "doesn't connect to servers anymore?????" It is a MMORPG. Just go to www.darkareofcamelot.com

No idea where you could have "learned" DAoC is not on servers anymore but I think its pretty safe to say you are wrong.

I would advise against Ryzom. I really dont think its what you are looking for. Its a "skill system" game. It just has a few broad class and you make what you want from that by using different skills.

Why not just go for World of Warcraft or Guild Wars? Both offer a good selection of what you are asking for and they are solid games that are great for new players.
