After umpteen posts the clear winner is GW2, although I am probably just misinforminated and need to do some research before reading the thread properly.
Its not the game so much as it is the player. There are crappy people in ALL MMOs. In my experience I hate playing with people under 18 and who don't have a job IRL. That's my most hated demographic.
People say WOW has worst community a lot because there are a lot of douchers, there's just a lot of people in generally so there are more douchers there than in any other game.

If you are talking about the worst people on the mmorpg forums I would have to say the haters of SWTOR, I have never seen more vitriol and hate toward a game since the NGE came about on SWG, they are the biggest complainers and the most uninformed people I have ever seen
Originally posted by gordiflu GW2. Not that I hate the game, it's just that after a while monitoring forums and such I have decided I am not interested. One of the reasons beeing the over the top fanboic fanboism of the very fanboic GW2 fanbois.
Please don't let that dissuade you from trying the game. You might like it. In-game it's very easy to turn off Map chat and if you're lucky you can end up in a guild with friendly (not nutty fanatic) players.
Every F2P game I have the misfortune or misjudgement to try.
I have yet to ever hear of any F2P game with a non-shitty community in fact.
Not too sure why that is.
Mainly because the people have nothing invested and dont care if they are blacklisted or banned cause they will just go to another game and do the same thing.
It seems there is quite a few that just install games so they can ruin another person's day.I really dislike the attitude of people these days. What ever happenned to people waking up and spending their day making others happy? I dont understand the compulsion to just be as big of a jerk as you can be everyday. But this is the world we live in .
The more popular a game the more hate it will get. hipsters hate wow and gw2 because they are successful. hipsters like seeing things fail. they are never happy. hating or not playing a game based on a forum community is childish and you should have your voting rights revoked..grow up children.

Internet Anonymity. Other than being banned/ignored, there's no other real repurcussion for being a jackass on the net, be it in-game or just the net in general.

I am guessing GW2 fan.
you avoided playing a game based on the fanbase on an unofficial forum, that's the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. if anything you should hate the devs because they made the game that you have never played yet hate so much. i'd say you'd be easy to manipulate.

I would say GW2, but the GW2 fanatics are amusing, and it peases me to see their silly overexagerations of the game.
While not technically a mmo...the sort of people that are drawn to DayZ make me sick...they describe the pvp in that game like some sort of spirtual experience...that community makes me think basement dwelling 16 year old obese man...they're essentially the scumbags that rick had to deal with in the bar-scene in the walking dead.
I think we can all agree that Guild Wars 2 has had one of the most ignorant volatile fanbases of all time.
Though I understand where the OP is coming from, in terms of balance and complexity it wasn't overly outstanding, but DAoC had an air of conquest about it. It was something very unique, much like Star Wars Galaxies' freedom in Star Wars universe, or WoW's journey in the Warcraft universe. They were truly Auspicious, and yet when we look back on them we only feel nostalgia, knowing that we will never have what we once had back then.
I think players had a hard time accepting the game for what it is, rather than what they dreamt it up to be. While Guild Wars 2 is nothing to scoff at, it is simply a really well-built casual friendly themepark mmo, in both PvE and PvP aspects.
Nothing annoys me more than hopping over to some in-development MMO's forum and seeing a bunch of terrible posts from SWG vets begging the devs to ripoff SWG.
I played the game from launch until a few months after JtL. I got deployed and then came back the day after the NGE.
I hate to break it to y'all SWG vets but 90% of PreCU was flat out broken. Entire professions, the buffing system, armor, all PvE content outside of the corvette and DWB, et cetera.
A perfect example of how broken SWG was is the commando profession. We're talking grenades which have a larger explosionr adius than they can be thrown so commandos would incap themselves from their own grenades and launchers whose accuracy was so incredibly poor that, ideally, you wanted to aim at a target near your intended target to catch them in the splash which was guaranteed. Apparently dodging an EXPLOSION when you're in the middle of it is no problem.
Then there were the broken ass doc buffs which were so much more powerful than entertainer buffs that Mind became the only real target in PvP which automatically gimped the hell out of any profession which couldn't directly attack mind.
And then there was just shit balance decisions like giving Rifleman higher accuracy AND speed modifier than carbines. WTF?
Oh, and back to those buffs. They were so stupidly OP that players could equip armor with insane resists that trivialized all ground content in the entire game outside of the DWB and the vette. Because karate chopping fifteen enraged rancors to death is so damn Star Warsy, amirite?
Literally everything about SWG was broken or unbalanced. I know that the forums at the time were a cesspool of dev bashing by these same SWG vets about how, more or less, everything outside of home decorating and JtL was completely broken os hilariously unbalanced.
WHY DO SO FEW SWG VETS REMEMBER THIS!?!?! The game was "meh" as hell and the actual ground gameplay was simply atrocious. Pretty much the only saving grace of the game were JtL and player cities.
I tried playing it years back (before WoW came out). Hated it for it's inferior graphics and lack of direction.
The fans always talk about how great it's PvP was, I always found it incredibly boring. Most likely, though, because I'm heavily into true skill based PVP games (CS1.6, SC and others back then).
How 'bout you guys?
Anyone else see the problem with this?
You're dissing an entire fanbase for liking something you don't. That's not a problem with the fans, it's a problem with you.
To answer the question, though, I'd say it almost has to be WoW, with maybe FFXI's as a close (but significantly smaller) 2nd, just due to all the LS drama, and griefing after the game came out on console.
Call me crazy, but I'd say what makes a game's community (or it's fans) bad is not that they have different tastes than you. It's when they start dictating what you should do and what you should say. When they start trying to control your time. That's when a game gets bad. Or, like in WoW's case, when you have more trolls than you can count on a daily basis.
I've seen people complain about the communities & fans of many MMOs. Reasons vary, but i've found that even if a community has a-holes, trolls, or people who think their game is perfect, they don't really matter until they start forcing their views on you en-masse. For example, in GW2 there are many people I don't agree with. However, instead of dictating to me about why i'm wrong, it's generally lead to some interesting discussion. Both on how the game could improve, features we'd like to see, and what each person feels is their favorite quality or mechanic. And that is how I think a community should be. I haven't had a similar experience since LotRO.
"If you like xyz instead of gw2 thats fine. I hope you enjoy yourself. Personally, i have evolved past that archaic style and could never revisit that trash. But you go ahead and have fun with that mmkay?"
And that is why GW2 fans are the way they are. You say you dont like them, but you belittle them and call them names based purely on you not liking the game.
actually, there have been quite a few GW2 fanboi's that have said something similar to this "If you like xyz instead of gw2 thats fine. I hope you enjoy yourself. Personally, i have evolved past that archaic style and could never revisit that trash. But you go ahead and have fun with that mmkay?"
Or they'll talk to you like you lost your loved one a year ago by saying..."you have to move on...things are different now...."
Hands down the award for worst fans goes to GW2.
^^ Very true. And they all seem to talk in absolutes:
"Oh, I can never ever go back to playing those clones with their quest hubs. I know exactly the type of game GW2 is and I'll be playing it for years and years."
HAHA...yeah, that's the one that makes me laugh the hardest

LOL. How clueless does someone have to be to convince themselves there are no quest hubs in GW2? Oh, I'm sorry. Quest areas.

I would have to say Guild Bores 2 and SWTOR.
Don't hate the game, hate the player.

"MMO you hate the most because of the fans"
I don't hate games. Also I wouldn't say that I "hate" anyone but more like ignore those I find insufferable.
GW2 takes the cake for me as having the most insufferable core of fans. Surprising, right?
Best part is their zealotry has calmed down considerably in comparison to before the launch and during the Beta Weekend Events.
I still have many of the worst offenders on block. That is until they've moved to the next big thing.
Please don't let that dissuade you from trying the game. You might like it. In-game it's very easy to turn off Map chat and if you're lucky you can end up in a guild with friendly (not nutty fanatic) players.
Stop being so literal about the question...
He isn't suggesting real 'hate' for a game or individuals, it is just a way of asking which games communities ruined the experience the most for you.
That's all.
I know I know, but to me it is a very strong word. So if possible (so far so good), I try to use other words/expressions instead of it.
Edit: when talking about people etc.
Mainly because the people have nothing invested and dont care if they are blacklisted or banned cause they will just go to another game and do the same thing.

although league of legens isnt an mmo, its still listed here so i'll still take it into consideration.
LoL pretty much has the absolute worst online community i have ever seen, and i've been a net junkie since the early 90s.
I like MOBA, and i think LoL itself is actually a good game, but the community made me uninstall and never want to touch it again.
Mortal Online...
Don't know how people can be a fan of a broken unfinished buggy game.
But they act like Mortal Online was the best game of the century.

Yes, GW2 fan

No explanation needed, look at half the posts in this thread....
