I know exactly where you are coming from. I can relate. When you find a game you love, its much easier to ignore or accept some of the problems. I did that with swg for years. Best mmo ever. Broken as shit but i didnt care. But the other spectrum also exists and im definitely in the opposite one as you guys regarding gw2. The good aspects dont negate the bad for me at least. Just how it goes when we talk about games we like or dislike and why.
There is a laundry list of issues i have with this game that all boil down to heated discussions here haha.
really people all the skins I have searched for are on the TP.. you want one just BUY IT.. no buying keys no buying anything just gold and buy it off the TP.. can we put an end to this crazyness? right now just did a search 38 Greatsaw Greatsword Skins.. all the dealthy shoulder armors are up there.. all of them just do a search you want it buy it.. yes some are expensive but they are supposed to be rare.
just checked every single skin is on the TP..
Do you think it matters to Anet/NCSoft one bit if you get your skins by buying keys with gems or you get your skins by buying them with in game money from someone else who got them by buying keys with gems?

this is very true what my issue is trying to understand what the problem is at all.. in most monthly sub games out now you not only pay monthly but they also sell special mounts and such you cna ONLY get with real money.. with GW2 nothing requires real money and I'm not paying a monthy fee.. with these two things ANET needs to find ways to make money but they still want to allow people who don't want to spend a dime have a chance to get and enjoy everything people who spend money get to enjoy. Really feels like people are splitting hairs here reaching for things to complain about.. if ANET was such a money lusting horrible company they would just put tons of items int the CS and make them bind on pickup and give you no way to get these items without spending money.. they also could not offer refunds to people who paid for the game.. again people seem to be splitting hairs not because it has any effect on their enjoyment of the game but just to do so.

To think we are seeing such a discussion about weapon skins. Makes me almost proud to see people fighting against skins being monetized on, but this isn't the game to do that since it isn't charging a monthly fee on top of a subscription and it does not limit content, buying the game effectively makes you able to acquire anything in-game since there are the gem-gold and vice-versa official exchange rates.

which is fine everyone has their own "things" that annoy them.. my question would be playing this game how in anyway would the shops current setup effect your gameplay and how you enjoy the game? just because two games have similarities in their CS doesn't mean they operate or effect the game as a whole nearly the same at all

I commend you on trying to have a civil discussion xD. but rationalizing with personal opnion is like slamming your face into the wall over and over again. If you look at the conversation he is not trying to rationalize or even try to make a point in how a P2W is the same thing as GW2 cash shop system and just rather say he hates the P2W or cash for gold system therefore the game is not for his liking.
The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true.

I...really don't think this is the case.
I ranted in many, many posts about how I didn't like the gem->gold exchange. And I still don't like it, I've just stopped caring so much about it lol. IMO, being able to trade real money (gems) DIRECTLY for game money (gold) in an official store is far worse than a "box of goodies" that you can buy in the cash shop that has cosmetic stuff in it.
So I just don't understand why people are complaining about this...the whole "random box of goodies" has been around for decades. Everyone should know the deal at this point. You can buy $500 worth of decks of baseball cards and still not get the one you want. Same thing applies to these chests...if you choose to gamble, you have to accept that you may lose all your money and get nothing in return. That's why it's called GAMBLING!
If you go back to the casino after losing all your money at the blackjack table...they are not going to have any pity on you.
I dont pay for games that have rng cash shops, cash for gold, tradeable cash shop items. I have played f2p games like that for a couple weeks. Those games are not what i look for in an mmorpg. Thats my problem with them and the problem you dont see. Just personal preference.
what is an rng cash shop?
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Buying and trading baseball cards IS the game. Gambling at a casino IS the game. Putting it into an mmorpg is not the game. Unless you consider it part of the gameplay experience. In which case you and i have very different views on what qualifies as mmorpg content.

The items within the BLC are produced via RNG, the keys to open them are most easily accessed via the cash shop. The cash shop supports RNG. That better ?

Yes...they are. But like the entire rest of the cash shop is not RNG. The ONLY things worthwhile that you can get in the BLCs are...
Endless Mystery Tonic (turn into furniture with infinite re-use)
The Halloween skins (4?)
So yeah, one tonic and a few holiday skins. BIG DEAL.
THAT is what ALL this griping is about. EVERYTHING ELSE on the CS is not RNG. Oh, and as mentioned several times before, you don't even need to participate in RNG to get the skins...you can just buy them on the TP.

In a cash shop it means you pay money for a chance to get an item. F2p cash shops do this because they offset the fact there is no sub fee or box price. So putting it into a game youve already paid 60 bucks for or in a game you pay 15 bucks a month for is not a game i will play

Okay consider this...MMORPGs are so large and immense that any one person may consider "the game" to be different things. For example, for a hardcore PvE achiever, "the game" may focus around grinding dungeons to get their legendary. For a hardcore PvPer, "the game" may focus around being part of the best team in GW2. Heck, for some people "the game" is about profiting of the trading post. And for others, the game may involve spending copious amounts of money on scratch-off-like boxes of goodies hoping for a big score...all these are valid.
It really only becomes a problem when you are forced to play something that you don't want to. For example, if you are a hardcore PvPer and you are forced to play the scratch-off game just so you can be competitive...that sucks. Same thing goes for a hardcore achiever that needs to play the scratch-off game to get their achievement...that sucks.
But given the current way the chests and skins are implemented...you NEVER have to buy them unless you want to. For one the items are only cosmetic, and for two you can buy them from the TP.
So please tell me, why is this such an issue? You NEVER, EVER have to buy those chests. Even if you want the skins inside them.
Addendum:
Also let me add that I am basically a hardcore WvW player now. That is more or less what I want to do. And I DO get annoyed that I have to do PvE sometimes because the cash you get from WvW isn't all that high. I perceive that as a greater problem than these silly chests .
I dont pay for games that have rng cash shops, cash for gold, tradeable cash shop items. I have played f2p games like that for a couple weeks. Those games are not what i look for in an mmorpg. Thats my problem with them and the problem you dont see. Just personal preference.

The Black Lion Chests are RNG, how can that be denied?
Yes...they are. But like the entire rest of the cash shop is not RNG. The ONLY things worthwhile that you can get in the BLCs are...
Endless Mystery Tonic (turn into furniture with infinite re-use)
The Halloween skins (4?)
So yeah, one tonic and a few holiday skins. BIG DEAL.
THAT is what ALL this griping is about. EVERYTHING ELSE on the CS is not RNG. Oh, and as mentioned several times before, you don't even need to participate in RNG to get the skins...you can just buy them on the TP.
Yeah first content patch out the gate and its there. And it will be there with every single content patch in the future.

I perceive that as a greater problem than these silly chests .
guess for some it's just the principlie of it even if it has no effect of them ingame and has no real adverse effect of why they dislike it in this particular game to begin with.. there's another term for that but ill refrain from using it...

I dont pay for games that have rng cash shops, cash for gold, tradeable cash shop items. I have played f2p games like that for a couple weeks. Those games are not what i look for in an mmorpg. Thats my problem with them and the problem you dont see. Just personal preference.
which is fine everyone has their own "things" that annoy them.. my question would be playing this game how in anyway would the shops current setup effect your gameplay and how you enjoy the game? just because two games have similarities in their CS doesn't mean they operate or effect the game as a whole nearly the same at all

It affects my enjoyment of an mmorpg because i very much enjoy playing in a 100% player driven economy with no real money transactions for items that can be bought and sold on the in game market. I dont like the fourth wall being broken in mmorpgs. Gw2 breaks it everywhere. Again, just personal opinion. That doesnt break for you, thats great glad it works out for you. It does not for me when im looking for an mmorpg. Other types of games? Sure, break away. But i play mmorpgs because i like games where that wallis sacred.
List one MMO that doesn't break it and I will share your personal opinion

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

There isnt one that breaks zero. There are plenty that break a few. There are some that break too many. Again, personal preference. Im not trying to get you to share my opinion. Im just sharing my own for the sake of discussion.

Rng: random number generator. In a cash shop it means you pay money for a chance to get an item. F2p cash shops do this because they offset the fact there is no sub fee or box price. So putting it into a game youve already paid 60 bucks for or in a game you pay 15 bucks a month for is not a game i will play
exactly.... again people splitting hairs for the sake of what?
