Hello fellas.

I'm building a new Rig for gaming. It's not high end but it will have to do.

My only doubt is choosing the cpu. Please tell me which is better and why if possible.

The FX run circles around the Phenom II, that thing is ancient. Are you limited to these models or budget wise are you open to suggestion?

    Currently playing - FF14ARR
Previous games - SWG, World of Warcraft, ShadowBane, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall, Planetside Asheron's Call, Everquest, Everquest 2, Too many.

do you really need the power of a fx-6100 vs that of a fx-4100?

I myself would rather get a Intel G860 (look into getting a i5 2500k when when more money available) or a SB i3 since the SB i3's outperform the FX-4100 if it was due to a current budget issue.

    Looking forward to uhh.....
playing: Civ 5, Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD

If you find a Intel processor for 120$ max in newegg that is better than any of these pls do tell.

These are according to my budget.

Going amd because is cheaper than intel.

With the first gen the 4 core was best bang for buck and actually better for games than the 6 core with its higher click speed.

So with those 3 the fx4.

One thing you MUST do with fx chips is update your bios overwise they perform terribly. With an updated bios the fx4 performs simmilar to a i5 2400 on most games, but and big but, some games will be bloody awful with it. Another thing with fx4 is it clocks well. I've overclocked mine to 4ghz and fitted a £30 aftermarket air cooler with no heat problems.

However I wouldn't get a bulldozer chip. If you are already committed to a am3+ motherboard I would get one of the new piledriver chips, in which case the 6 core is the pick of the bunch.

You could justify any of them, really.  If those are your only three options, I'd probably go with the Phenom II, as it has four completely independent cores, and better IPC than Bulldozer cores.

But if you're going AMD, I'd lean toward an FX-6300 (as Mondo linked) if you can fit it in your budget.  Vishera (FX-*3*0) fixed a lot of things that were broken in Zambezi (FX-*1*0).  You could make up some of the difference with a combo deal for a discount on the motherboard:

Even if you have to cut back on something elsewhere, it may well be worth doing so to fit the FX-6300.

Alhought the 6300 is an fx chip it is built with the newer piledriver arcature (lousy speller).

Silly Q to OP - are you buying(building) a new system or upgrading an existing one? If you're upgrading an existing one, go for the Phenom II I'd say. If you're building a new one, get a mainboard that supports the FX CPU's (and upgradeble if possible) and try to get your hands on the 6300 (to save money on future CPU upgrades)

    Just thought.

If you can still get it, the phenom 2 x6

    The last great AMD cpu.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I'm building a new PC.

I only have 210$ to buy a motherboard and a Cpu. I'm using newegg just has a guide to good choices.

I basicly only have acces to Gigabyte, Asus and AsRock motherboards and those are the best i think.

If someone can tell me whats the best i can get with 210$... AMD or Intel ... I just need the cpu and the motherboard. For gaming...

    All advice is welcome.

Check my link above:  processor and motherboard for $205 including shipping, and before a $15 rebate.  And that's with an FX-6300, which is markedly better than any of the processors you linked in the initial post.  MSI is at least as good as AsRock, and it's debateable whether they're as good as Asus or Gigabyte.  Regardless, those are the four brands I'd consider for most purposes.

It's good to link your entire proposed build before making a purchase, rather than considering parts in isolation.  Often, it's possible to make tweaks here and there to get something just as good for $50 cheaper.

Quiz is giving good advice. I prefer gigabyte, but mis are decent enough make too. The 6300 is very good value for money, and the odd game apart that's badly coded for AMD, will perform as good as a much more expensive high end I5.

Don't get the old 6 core you linked though, its a poor gaming chip that is out performed by its cheaper 4 core brother.
