Thanks m1k3l Yeah it's a pretty cool one. It can relate to alot of different people but I picked it as a quote about 9/11. Terrorists around the world thought we'd crumble when faced with an attack of catastrophic proportions. But instead it made us a hell of alot tougher.
I originally swore that I would not go and see the Doom movie but my friends dragged me kicking and screaming to go and see it. I wont reveal anything so I'll limit my comments.
If you like action flicks about wise cracking tough guys with big guns and macho one liners then this movie is for you. If you like movies where the antagonists are hiding in the shadows and leap out of the dark and systematically kill off the heroes one at a time until there is the climatic scene at the end then this is for you. As a matter of fact if you saw the movie Aliens 2 then you've already seen this movie.
Now if you're a Big Doom fan like myself you'll be disappointed. The reason I was so disappointed is that it had little if any resemblance to the game. The story was heavily altered and regurgitated out in typical Hollywood fashion. This was simply a typical Hollywood action flick with the "Doom" label as a name. I consider that sacriligeous.
Bottom line...Wait for it to come out on DVD then rent it. Heck that may even be too much money.

So Dark, was my prognosis of this movie right on the money? Butchered story line? Hollywoodized cliches? Was there any point within this movie where you really felt like Hell Broke Loose?

***Dont read my post if you plan to go and see the movie. It may ruin it for you.***
Yeah you nailed it Dis-Ordur. For starters they did away with just about all the original creatures from the game. The zombies were pretty much the only monsters that they were accurate with from the game but how can you screw up zombies? Besides the zombies they had what I think was the Imps but the Imps didnt toss those plasma balls like in the game. They just hid in shadows and jumped out at the camera in typical Hollywood fashion. In the commercial I bet you saw the Pinky demon (bull type demon). Well it was actually a guy in a wheelchair that got mutated and the wheelchair made the second half of his body. So it wasnt even really Pinky after all because he had these corny wheels for a lower half body.
Now what ticked me off is that these supposed "Demons" arent creatures from another plane like in the game. They're just mutated people that fell victim to biological testing gone wrong. The UAC on Mars was testing some type of genetic altering serum and it would turn you into either a zombie or something resembling an Imp. So there was no Gate to another dimension. Heck it didnt have any of the Doom feel at all. There weren't even any Satanic/Hellish scenes.
Another thing that pissed me off is that Sarge is supposed to be the Hero of this movie. They changed it and Sarge ended up being the bad guy bent on destroying Earth. What kind of craziness was that?
One more final disturbing note. Co-screenwriter Wesley Strick admits that at the time he was given the job he had never heard of the game. He said he had to go to his children for info about the game. http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?id=32893 Dude how lame is that?????
It's really sad that Hollywood once again took something that was passionate to so many people and screwed it up. They simply bought the rights to the game's name and slapped it on a generic sci-fi action flick that bears no resemblance to the game. But does Hollywood care that they desecrated this game? Not as long as they make their millions.

Lamer than anything I have seen in a really long time... It's funny, in that article he is taking his kid's advice as to what demons to leave in the movie...
Though my Hat goes off to The Rock. I felt he did a great job playing Sarge. I'm not any super big fan of the Rock but I feel he was one of the few good things going for the movie.
I want to see it. Im just curious to see how the first person camera angle is going to work out. Ill probably go with some friends this weekend. I doubt the ratings will get higher then a 5/10.

Rumor has it that Peter Jackson will be directing the Halo movie.
As for Doom, I saw a few clips on yahoo and liked how they put the camera on the gun to make it seem like a FPS. Not sure if I want to see it though
