that feature was put in place so that vets (you know, those guys who have been supporting the game since release) can secure their old names.
Funny, it doesn't say that anywhere on the forums. Or in the FAQ. Or on their website. It does however say that names will be reserved on a first come, first served basis.
I guess this Celiah Ailey's $15 / month is worth more than someone else's, according to Aventurine. Or in other words, some pigs are more equal than others.
Just for full disclosure, the guy who's name got taken(celiah) was a notorious thief and all around scumbag. He griefed new people starting the game, stole clan banks, the works. He got what was coming to him and av gave into him after all his crying which is b.s.
The Darkfall community is the reason Darkfall fails hard.
Aventurine have bred a species of hyper-aggressive, illiterate trolls. The PvP gameplay - and the back handed way in which the vets act - has translated over to the silent majority nicely as well.
What Aventurine need to do is ban the veteran players that have abused their positions within the community. They then need to apply some form of integrity check to the forums. They need to put in place a set of rules that establish and unwavering culture within the game, that encourages positive behaviour.
They should learn from the mistakes of CCP, rather than continuing to make the same (and worse) mistakes consistently.
With such an obstructive community on launch, Unholy Wars is not likely to make any form of splash.

Funny I just see it like any other forum including this one, People who speak their minds, sometimes rudely.
Darkfall needs and requires drama as the players are the content. It depends on rivalries, scamming, backstabbing and people gettting pissed off. So does EvE and its part of why EvE is so successful.

At a community level, Darkfall is to Eve as an aggressive corporate takeover is to football holliganism ;o
Eve is sophisticated. There is a sense of integrity in the Eve community that is absent in totality in Darkfall. In Eve, even the most shunned of players - those that have committed the worst crimes - are respected for their ingenuity. Eve has its fair share of backstabbing, scamming, rivalries and politics... but those elements of the game are wrapped up in far more compelling way.
Darkfall is just a game for people who want to forget how to spell, people that want to beat each other with clubs. It's not even brutality. It's just rank and file stupidity a lot of the time.

This is what "listening to community" and "tightly work with community" means and is so often praised on these and other, official game boards.
Sadly, but not surprisingly, people do not realize what they wish for.
Originally posted by Raxeon OP the reserve a name was for vets to be able to reserve there old name since oyu know they shut down the old game. it was only right for av to do this, you know that a troll took it in the first place
He lost his name cause Aventurine had a secure name option. That option ment nothing since Aventurine change names back to the whiner after they been secured. Very carebear.
Same thing as the rule to not change the outcome of a siege when server went down. Acting against their own rules dont give the playerbase a feeling of a leveled playing field. Giving benefits to some is very unprofessional.
Good job to AV for getting the vet his name back, taking it away from the pointless little troll who took it in the first place.

No it is taking the easy way out. They acted the same way when they realized their own siegerules was making one of the bigger Zergs ragequit. So they just ignored their own set of rules and created new ones to please the Zerg.
Though the circumstances are a bit different, I remember when my friend lost his name during server merges in SWTOR, most likely because he ruled at PvP and someone wanted to mess with him. Well it worked. He quit the game (though honestly, he'd all but hit the cancel subscription button by this time). I think I'd be more worried if, like EA, Aventurine didn't even acknowledge the veteran's pleas and let some douchebag keep the name.
I think the part about the "conquered" town is a little bit more fishy, but people don't seem to be concentrating on that.
Being hardcore and being a dick has been intertwined since before I started online gaming ... so 14+ years. It's like their life blows so much they have to take it out on people.

If you have no sympathy for thieves then why defend one? Celiah is a thief and trash.
You need bad guys alongside the good. Celiah was very passionate about darkfall.
You literally just said you had no sympathy for thieves, Celiah is a known scammer and thief. He isn't passionate, he is just trash who posts a lot on the forums.
No idea why you would defend him especially after saying you have no sympathy for thieves. He got what he deserved and his whining is pathetic.

So all the more reason to give the original owner his name back, how else will those who were his victims get an opportunity to exact their revenge on him. MMORPGs are just much more fun to me if there at heroes and villains. Too much in either direction just wreck them IMO.

Your name in DF means alot.
Alot of the old trolls begun trolling the crap out of eachother by taking peoples names to start a shitstorm.
It's very well known that it's the case, AV helping was the right move. Since it was very easily verified who's name belonged to who as the original accounts needed to be linked and AV still have all of the old char DF1 data, including names, skills, inventory/bank ect.
Although i can understand that people have a special relation to their nickname after using it for years, i dont think you can steal a name since nobody really owns a name. AV should have reserved the names from DF1 to the UW-accounts linked to it, problem would have been easily solved. Since they didnt every name is FFA.
I would have sympathy if the name was stolen from some other media such as books, film or other video games,or if it was taken from a famous real person. But the name in question was unique to the individual who made it famous in this game.Aventurine should have no problem identifying who the original owner of the name was in darkfall 1.0 and acted appropriately IMO.
The only reasons I can see for even attmepting to steal the name are to steal the fame associated with it or deny it to the person who mad eit so or for a joke knowing it would be reversed eventually. In all cases I see no fault in restoring it to the originator.Though it should of been handled privately and taking it public is indeed a tad whiney but not as whiney as the OP of this thread.
I love how speaking out against bad behaviour is now labeled so easily as whining. It's also funny how those who label it as whining are usually the culprits or their sympathizing thugs.
I don't understand why this is so confusing to certain people...
It seems pretty simple to me: if I secure a name ingame with pre-order pack, not by hacking or any other similar methods, I should be able to get the name no matter what... NO MATTER WHAT!! I shouldn't have to explain myself to those who call me a theif and I certainly shouldn't just shut the hell up and walk away.
It's not about who should have the name, it's about who can and who just simply can not.
Imagine yourself "secured" a table that has a really nice view at a restaurant. I can see that it's pretty close to the waste container, but you see... we have another costumer that's umm... let's just say he's a 'veterian' around here for years and he just LOVE that seat we promised to reserve for you and this lovely young lady... There's no need to... well, I'll come back whenever you're ready to get over yourself. (Simle)"

Sounds like Xipher also had his name stolen.
