You're taking these out of context...the FFXI conversation seems to indicate that the players are together for a means of experience, and that the WoW player's have a goal of defeating the 'general'. You neglected the fact that there are things dealing with fighting beyond exp-grind in FFXI, such as fighting Notorious Monsters within areas that are teeming with monsters; this is similar to the WoW example.

I'll agree with you in that camping and grinding is very boring and trite, but do not try to oversimplify things or only show part of the message; we can at least be fair when we argue.
Well i played both an di must say FFXI is way much better than WoW for various reasons which ill post below.
1. FFXI game graphics are way better than WoW's.
2. FFXI theme, battle and field music is way much better than WoW's.
3. FFXI's interface is much more organized since everything goes as Menus and Submenus, while in WoW's is organized like a shorcut menubar or something so u have to learn what each sympol means to open the right menu or slot.
4. FFXI is longer and more demanding, therefore u enjoy it more.
5. In WoW u get killed by more advanced players and that really sucks.
6. FFXI has 3 expansions.
Moreless this is why i chose FFXI also a group of friends and I bought the game all at once.
But I do say one thing if ur friends play WoW go to WoW, if they play FFXI go to FFXI. U will enjoy it more if u play it with ur friends

FFXI was the worst MMO I have ever played, and thats saying alot since im on MMO #18. WoW is definitely the better game, but it gets boring after you hit 60, wait till some expansions come out then go for it.

both games have totally different styles of graphics. wow's graphics are amazing, more style and better feel.
music is opinion.
wow's interface is very easy to use. to find out what a spell does, hover your mouse over it for a tooltip.
longer and demanding. longer and demanding because you have to group to do anything, the game is a complete grind from level 1, of course its going to be longer and demanding if you can't do anything.
in wow you do NOT get killed by more advanced players unless you play on a PVP server. they make PVE servers where you can decide to flag for PVP if you want to fight other players.
final fantasy has been out for 3 years or so. it was out in japan for a year before it came to the US. when it came to the us it also came with its 1st expansion pack. wow isn't even a year old yet. expansion will be out shortly.
i have no problems with people giving a review of other games, but at least get your info straight about the other game.
I agree, FFXI has the worst and I mean the WORST, and by WORST, I mean friggin retarded user interface. You have to click 18 million menu and submenu after submenu buttons. TERRIBLE UI. Even lamer game.

I have played this game for a long time. Played through till the end game events as well. When i was getting this game i thought it was going to be a great experience, like ff tactics but online and kick ass with ur friends. This game is just not like that though. This game has potential but square didnt think this game through and i believe they ended up half assing it. I mean like... the starting of this game was fun and memorable to me. But then its party and get exp, this game is basically spend shit loads of hours and get a party and get crap exp, takes way too much time and such little reward. The job class system i thought was great, just like their previous games but they ended up even messing up the jobs. I'll name a few and their problems. Such as ninja, in this game they have them as what we call tanks which take the damage and keep the others safe. But they left out the damage for them, even Paladins. So much for holyness XD. Hell even Red Mage is different, they introduce the "refresh" system and make red mage take on this duty. They lost their power of melee even strong magic. Summoner is another problem, not being able to deal damage even at 75 which people say they are great. I had summoner and its not great its a disapointment! So much time spent in that job too... Basically this party system square has put into this game is horrible! You have to have certain jobs to make the decent party to get the such crap exp. Everything moves so slowly, its a waste of time. Of course you should have like ur tank style person in your party to take all the blows and a healer of some sort. But this game is insane! You need ur healer/tank/refresher/2 melees/and ur nuker i mean common this is another reason why it takes so long to get anywhere in this game. When i logged in the game i would think all right lets see... what can i do, the answer is nothing. You should be able to have fun and exp with whoever, not spend countless hours waiting for a certain job. The PvP system in this game is garbage as well, hell it almost seems like a quest in some ways. All you do is exp and if you are lucky you get into a linkshell in the end game and you camp 1 monster that will pop once a week fighting over it with 10 other linkshells. The supply and demand in this game is out of control. Hell the economy is insane, and getting your hand on money in this game is hard to find. I saw a few people say that everyone looks alike and yes thats true. You need to be able to solo in a game for it to work, and there is no way that is possible in this game. Dont give me crap about how rdm can solo... thats garbage. They kill something way tougher than them but takes so long and just wastes more time in exping. Beastmaster "the only solo job" what is this? This shouldnt be what makes this job different from the other... it should be a job that can kick ass with their pets. I mean common square you are the guys who makes the games be creative. I like to say that there are none or few abilities in this game that are "real abilities". All melee jobs are the same nothing seperates them from each other expect defense wise, shadows and the few real abilities. The melees use their certain weapon and all do about the same dmg. Like drk with scythe/great sword war with the axes and so on. Common give this game some real shit like make dark knight go all crazy and have abilites sucking life not no bs magic spell called drain. Wheres the real shit. The system in this game is just bad, hell even the lag is horrible. Some 1 perviously stated that the time zones are far and yes i know that, i called a gm before and asked if the lag would ever be fixed and possibly servers be placed over here in the future, he said "there is no lag difference". Which brings me to another disapointing factor in this game... the service! Horrible!!!! Square obviously doesnt care about complaints, as long as they are rolllin in the cash they wont do shit. I have finally had it with this game and quit. There is much much more problems but obviously i cant name them all. I would not recomend this game and if anyone wants an online game such as this one i would say try WoW or even Guild Wars. You can't really compare FFXI to FFVIII simply because one is console and one is an MMORPG.
I would have to say that if you can handle grinding play either, because from what people say they both seem to have a horrible grind in them.
If you enjoy a good community, I haven't even played FFXI, but I"m betting that it's better than WoW's community. And yeah people will say "just dont talk to the little kids, put them on your ignore list" but there's only so many times that you can hear "my orc warrior pwnzors your shaman" and the like before you get tired of hearing it and close the chat window alltogether.
I personally played the 10day buddypass demo for WoW because I wanted to play a good single player game, and I got just that. It was fun to play by myself when I had nothing better to do.

as your saying it that final fantasy is boring to level because camping is kinda speeking like a newbie yourselfs final fantasy can nevver be boring to level sinds you got 400 levels worth in ff11 you should know that all players have to put effort into leveling even wen fighting 1 mob at a time i currently got 6 classes at level 75 drk,bard,war,whm,blm,rdm i love them all and had huge fun and hardschip leveling them all to that level i also played wow and all i had to do to get to 60 was wack some critters got to 60 withing a month without much trouble other then getting all artifact gear witch is boring doing al those instances over and over again and hoping your lot is higher then the others of your class if the gear actualy drops sinds you cant buy the best gear you could get stuck doing some instances over 50 time,s with the same outcome kill endboss no drop kill endboss lose lot kill endboss drop finaly yours this got on my nerve after my second char reached 60
the point some people seem to be overlooking is that, unlike ffxi, the game only really begins when you reach the highest level in WOW, it is after all, a pvp game, Horde Vs Alliance, once you reach highest level you can in ffxi, it sounds like you start learning another job type, and grind grind grind, well, if grinding is your 'bag' then ffxi is obviously the game for you. graphically too, WOW is superior to FFxi, its really down to gameplay, both games rely on grouping. the difference, the biggest one imo, is that wow is suitable for the casual gamer and the hardcore gamer, ffxi really isnt a casual gamer friendly game, you are heavily dependent on finding people to linkshell with so that you can become part of a group, and right from the very beginning you have to work hard, to get anywhere. so, while i think anyone who has managed to get to really high levels in ffxi has really worked for it, the truth is, a game should be more about fun. of course the downside to this is that wow is such a popular game that you have to queue just to get on the servers, something i absolutely hate. and the major reason why i dumped wow. trying to log on to your favourite toon and getting the message 'you are #524 in the queue' and spending over 30 mins watching those numbers tick down, uh uh.. i'd rather play SWG than do that... and theres no way i'd play SWG NGE, now theres a game to avoid!

the high points were the size of the world, the $4.50 USd subscrition fee, and the internationality of the playerbase.
It's a fantasy theme, so you know whats going on well enough. I especially liked the oportunity to play with asians. I get a lot of European language practise in other games, but practising my japanese is not often an option. Big thumbs up here.
Game was easy enough, getting a regular team was slow as usual. It always takes me a month or two with each new game to find a good element of the community that suits my demeanor.
I didn't find the leveling any slower than anyother game, i've played. Very comparable in fact.
Although very content rich, when I got FFXI, it was already showing it's age. It looks very dated.
Awesome game in it's day. Now that I have tried WoW, however, there is no going back.
The fantasy game of today is clearly WoW. If you like fantasy mmo's. This is the current market leader. Current generation Software.
With a community of 4 million to choose from, you really should be able to surround yourself with like minded players. I find the bigger te community, the better. More people to choose from.
in small communites I end up playing with total tossers simply because I need to make the numbers up and they are all that is available.
I played FFXI for about a year and I've played WoW for about a year now as well. It's really hard to say, the community in both games are great though sometimes part of the WoW community tends to be a bit less mature (from my experience).
I have to admit, FFXI has kind of a weird feeling control at first. It took me a while to get used to back then, but the way WoW's movement and combat works feels just natural to me. I personally think the combat system in WoW is far more engaging than that of FFXI.
That being said, they both are pretty good games with lots of places to explore and the usual grinding. The best thing I remember of FFXI was the awesome music Their both fun games, but not quite the same. But if you like to PvP more, then I would suggest WoW over FFXI.
Just my 2.734 cents worth, personally I'm waiting for RF online now, and maybe Age of Conan in the future or the new mythic daoc game... Warhammer was it called?

I mean common square you are the guys who makes the games be creative. I like to say that there are none or few abilities in this game that are "real abilities". All melee jobs are the same nothing seperates them from each other expect defense wise, shadows and the few real abilities. The melees use their certain weapon and all do about the same dmg. Like drk with scythe/great sword war with the axes and so on. Common give this game some real shit like make dark knight go all crazy and have abilites sucking life not no bs magic spell called drain. Wheres the real shit. The system in this game is just bad, hell even the lag is horrible. Some 1 perviously stated that the time zones are far and yes i know that, i called a gm before and asked if the lag would ever be fixed and possibly servers be placed over here in the future, he said "there is no lag difference". Which brings me to another disapointing factor in this game... the service! Horrible!!!! Square obviously doesnt care about complaints, as long as they are rolllin in the cash they wont do shit. I have finally had it with this game and quit. There is much much more problems but obviously i cant name them all. I would not recomend this game and if anyone wants an online game such as this one i would say try WoW or even Guild Wars. Some 1 stated that the pros in this game out weighs the cons... well thats false. Like i said this game has potential, but just does not deliver. Graphics are awesome but guild wars beat this game in that category XD the story is not so great, it's too choppy and spaced too far out, lol most the time through this game you dont know whats going on u just look for a party and exp XD. The gameplay isnt so great as stated before like the crappy systems! Funfactor well thats obvious. Music well i guess its great. And the service... well this is just crap, dont expect square to help you if something happens, you are on ur own XD kind of like at the aracades with those signs "Play at your own risk!" lol XD

Why most people still play this game is probally due to the title and how it holds the godly name of final fantasy. This game is really hurting and square wont make a move. But by fixing this game they would have to junk their game and start over so it wont happen XD
You can't really compare FFXI to FFVIII simply because one is console and one is an MMORPG.
I would have to say that if you can handle grinding play either, because from what people say they both seem to have a horrible grind in them.
If you enjoy a good community, I haven't even played FFXI, but I"m betting that it's better than WoW's community. And yeah people will say "just dont talk to the little kids, put them on your ignore list" but there's only so many times that you can hear "my orc warrior pwnzors your shaman" and the like before you get tired of hearing it and close the chat window alltogether.
I personally played the 10day buddypass demo for WoW because I wanted to play a good single player game, and I got just that. It was fun to play by myself when I had nothing better to do.

as your saying it that final fantasy is boring to level because camping is kinda speeking like a newbie yourselfs final fantasy can nevver be boring to level sinds you got 400 levels worth in ff11 you should know that all players have to put effort into leveling even wen fighting 1 mob at a time i currently got 6 classes at level 75 drk,bard,war,whm,blm,rdm i love them all and had huge fun and hardschip leveling them all to that level i also played wow and all i had to do to get to 60 was wack some critters got to 60 withing a month without much trouble other then getting all artifact gear witch is boring doing al those instances over and over again and hoping your lot is higher then the others of your class if the gear actualy drops sinds you cant buy the best gear you could get stuck doing some instances over 50 time,s with the same outcome kill endboss no drop kill endboss lose lot kill endboss drop finaly yours this got on my nerve after my second char reached 60

really like final fantasy xI.
the high points were the size of the world, the $4.50 USd subscrition fee, and the internationality of the playerbase.
It's a fantasy theme, so you know whats going on well enough. I especially liked the oportunity to play with asians. I get a lot of European language practise in other games, but practising my japanese is not often an option. Big thumbs up here.
Game was easy enough, getting a regular team was slow as usual. It always takes me a month or two with each new game to find a good element of the community that suits my demeanor.
I didn't find the leveling any slower than anyother game, i've played. Very comparable in fact.
Although very content rich, when I got FFXI, it was already showing it's age. It looks very dated.
Awesome game in it's day. Now that I have tried WoW, however, there is no going back.
The fantasy game of today is clearly WoW. If you like fantasy mmo's. This is the current market leader. Current generation Software.
With a community of 4 million to choose from, you really should be able to surround yourself with like minded players. I find the bigger te community, the better. More people to choose from.
in small communites I end up playing with total tossers simply because I need to make the numbers up and they are all that is available.
I played FFXI for about a year and I've played WoW for about a year now as well. It's really hard to say, the community in both games are great though sometimes part of the WoW community tends to be a bit less mature (from my experience).
I have to admit, FFXI has kind of a weird feeling control at first. It took me a while to get used to back then, but the way WoW's movement and combat works feels just natural to me. I personally think the combat system in WoW is far more engaging than that of FFXI.
That being said, they both are pretty good games with lots of places to explore and the usual grinding. The best thing I remember of FFXI was the awesome music
Their both fun games, but not quite the same. But if you like to PvP more, then I would suggest WoW over FFXI.
Just my 2.734 cents worth, personally I'm waiting for RF online now, and maybe Age of Conan in the future or the new mythic daoc game... Warhammer was it called?
