I don't play video games for violence. Neither for blood. I play them because I find them fun and exiting. Much of this is achieved with violence and cool action sequences. But if a game can entertain me without violence it ok for me too.

i agree w/ both of u but it would make games almost pointless if they had no violence

It will never happen. Trust me. Not only there will be riots, the gamers would attack the movie industry and so on.

Well, I myself would be pretty dissapointed if that did happen.(it won't)

A vast majority of all video games now have something to do with violence, and if they took away violence from video games..well..it would completely ruin the gaming industry.

my resource is an entirly gaming channel called g4.they were running a special about this topic and it sed in the very near future that violence may be taken out of video games

  • Every few years, certain politicians and religious leaders run out of issues or decide they need some publicity by appearing 'tough' on something morally evil. They see videogames as an easy target, and go wild. It happens like clockwork, and it hasn't produced anything tangible. The only change since I was a child is the rating system, which has not really done much to stem violence in videogames.

I'm still waiting for coherent evidence to emerge from one of these escapades. Violent crime is down significantly, and still dropping, while there are more violent videogames than ever. Those making the claims usually focus on the most visable target without doing much research. I cite as an example the televised Senate hearings of the 90's. I watched at home as the Senators raved and railed against these games, and played fatality scenes from the original Mortal Kombat. Strangely, that game had been out for at least three years, and wasn't really the most popular one at the time. They just jumped on it because whenever someone said violent videogame they heard Mortal Kombat.

All that is ever offered is emotional testimony and opinions. Where are the facts? Don't give me Columbine. An emotionally disturbed person on their way to violence will find whatever excuse they need, be it videogames, pen and paper rpgs, heavy metal, rock music, the beatles, or communism.

oh yea sorry to tell you but bush cant just say i dont want violence in video games and it will happen, it has to go through the senate first, and like everyone else said it wont happen, and if bush said something about violence in video games it would be all over every news channel by now, so that shows its bullshit.

    Because blood=fun right?

I don't see what people's fascination with blood in games is. Sure, it makes the game more realistic but in the end it's pretty useless. Most of the time I never even notice the blood in games. I'm more focused on what i'm doing in the game.

The law considers other things besides gore as violent characteristics in games. Many of these things fall in the category of "immoral actions." These things include torture and depraved violence (killing without sympathy towards your victims). One of the main arguments that supports the ban of violent games to kids is that these games teach kids the methods of criminals.

Banning a game simply because there is blood or alot gore would be rediculous. Gore has hardly anything to do with turning kids into killers. It may give people headaches but the government couldn't care less. If they ban games just because there is blood, then they might as well ban biology classes in schools.

Dang, you really got something against your brother don't you? That poor guy.

  • cryoracryora Member Posts: 367

lol I'm just stating something that has been overlooked in this thread. I got nothing against my bro. He plays Resident Evil 4 and I don't mind.

  • sugarwe_mmfsugarwe_mmf Member Posts: 27
(replying to cryora)u r right and i do agree, but the violence is making kids more used to it(violence)and in this world w/guns and all that shit that cant be goodimage.

I am wathcing the show now on demand and it just stated that if the law is passed there will be no more violence in games.....imageimageimageimageimageimageimage.

Are they banning violence in all games or are they just putting an age limit for violent games?

I think it would suck if the government banned violence in all games preventing anyone from playing or making violent games. It would be limiting the potential quality of games for weakly supported reasons. In articles about violent games I've read, the writers talk about what games can do but were always missing a measurement of any kind to the extent of the effects games have on people.

If they were just putting an age limit, then I guess it's a reasonable move for now. Still, I would like the people against violence in games to be more solid in their arguments.

I just found this page: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6135332.html

It looks like they're just going to step up the enforcing of the age-limit law.

I wonder if this is a move to crush gaming industries in the long run. Alot of gamers today are kids under 18. I don't know how much, but gaming indutries could lose alot of customers if everyone under 18 is wiped off the consumer list.

If this is indeed the government's motive, what will be in stored for kids if the gaming industry does decline? Hover cars? It BETTER be hover cars! lol
