i think 4 sure it aint number one out of all mmorpgs
it's really bothering me and making me sick to see eve number 1 rank
and i rarely hit this site n e more

I think the problem with eve is, when people quit it they quit because they just get bored. With other MMOG they leave because THIS GAME SUCKS!!! Something happened like the devs nerfing something or they just realize they're never going to be...whatever they thought they'd be when they started ( like the greatest jedi in all the land :P ) The Eve devs have done a pretty good job of never coming out with a WTF nerf patch and driving off all thier players. They have a very loyal fan base who for the most part just quietly leave when they go.
For some odd reason when you leave a game because you get bored you tend not to hate it, and don't go back and change your rating on it. Looking at some of the comments in swg and other once great MMOG. There's alot of "I played this game for a year+ and omg it sucks so much blah blah blah". If they played for a year, at one time they must have really loved the game. Now I'm sure thier rating is a 0 which of course isn't very true.
So I guess the number one spot for eve is a testement to the devs and the fine job they've done with that game. Even if it's less fun then watching paint dry

OK...I happened to follow a link to the EVE forums the other day (probably from this site)...and they are FULL! of complaints about lag...continuous complaints from back in mid 2004 (link after link to complaints about lag...within the EVE forums themselves).
Yet...when you look at the EVE ratings...lag (or lack of it I'd assume) comes in as the 2nd best feature of those rateable (with an average score of 8.7). It's obvious from this that long-term, devoted, EVE players are NOT ranking this correctly, and thereby falsely skewing the ratings.
I mean the other day they had an 80 on 200 fleet battle (that's 280 people in one area) that crashed 50% of the EVE universe and also crashed the login server (meaning anyone who didn't crash out...but logged out couldn't log back on either).
Intentionally false ratings...anyone...anyone...Bueller?
ITa just craziness, World of WArcraft Suppoters need to step up and get our boy in the #1 seat!
Well, normally even the people that find eve boring will give it a moderate rating unlike other mmo's where its all about 1's and 10's. Most people see that altough eve is not for them, it is a vast, deep and extremely complex game with some of the most polished features on the mmo market.
Rarely do i see "omg eve suckzors", i mostly see, "i found eve boring but nevertheless, its a good game".

Pretty sure that happens all games on the list. There was topic here about how the ranking is calculated and its not just average if i remember right, so fanbois giving their game all 10 doesnt effect much as you think.
You feel sick because people have ranked eve number one? Maybe admin of this site should change it to what you want? uh oh...

Why do people take those ratings so seriously? It's not a game rating, it's a rating of how many fans of the game are members of this site.
I do like EvE. It's one of the games i'm currently playing. However i wouldn't mind seeing a log of how many members gave the game a perfect 10 in all categories. These same members that cease to exist once they have rated the game. I'm not saying that this doesn't happen with other games too, it's just that the rating shouldn't be taken so seriously.
If you put a rating list on every one of these mmo websites, it will most likely vary with each site.
There is no best MMORPG, only favorites.

Honestly, why do you care if Eve is number 1? It's a game lots of people like, obviously, if it's rated number 1. So, what was the point of this thread?

No Userbar here, sorry to disappoint.
I don't even play Eve anymore, and I agree it deserves the #1 spot. Its a very good game, very deep, great trading system. And also very open ended. I played it for quite awhile, I'm not uber, but have about 10m skillpoints, and was able to have fun next to guys that have twice that.
Eve is unique and other most other MMOs are not. The ones that DO offer something unique such as SB are implemented so pathetically that you can't even enjoy the best features to the maximum extent. Eve also offers every type of player something (socializer, trader, pvper, politician, crafter, etc). I think this is a big reason that Eve is ranked so highly - people that have played it and not enjoyed it still respect it. People that have played several other MMOs quit with a passionate hate (or at least trite dislike). So I would imagine the standard deviation for Eve ratings is a lot a lower than the competition...

The guy two above me said it right. EVE is unique whereas the other MMO's aren't. It offers some of everything whereas the other MMO's offer usually 1 thing. I played EVE for about a year and quit not because it wasn't the best MMO I've played (it was and is) but because I didn't have the time and I prefer fantasy based games.
EVE online people, make a fantasy game, then you will have the best MMO in both of the 2 major genres.
It's not going to change because you feel sick about it.

Just because members who bother to post in the forums dont like it doesnt represent every member of this site. WoW has a lot more ratings than EVE, so if it was the better game, wouldnt it be ranked higher by its community?
This is my favorite gaming site. But that game ranking feature to me is just a joke.
It's kind of like those little elections we had in jr. high and high school for student council president. It was just a popularity contest. And to me popularity (in anything including music, sports, politics, and yes even friends) has never meant a hill of beans.
Popularity 99.9% of the time doesn't equate to quality. It's mostly just a litmus test to single out the lemmings.
Besides that, I have this hunch that some people have kind of bumped the scale on their favorite game by being a little less than honest. Call me suspicious if you like.
By that logic though, the game with the highest subscriber base would be #1 though wouldnt it? If it were a popularity contest with fans of said game rating it higher, WoW would be #1 (which has almost 5000 votes), instead of EVE (which has almost 3000).
Oops, my bad Orcc. Going back and reading what I wrote and the way I wrote it, yeah you're right. But no, I was talking about all the games on that list. Not just the very top one. Sorry about my bad explanation. That's why I teach Social Studies and not English.
But I think my last point is more relevant of an argument than my first point. The one about the people bumping the scale. What if everyone reading this went to EVE right now and gave it a 1.0. What would happen then?
OP: What should be ranked #1, the game you play?
People need to take a step back into observer mode and see how ridiculous they really look when they freak out over dumb stuff like this.

not all 4 million WoW suubscribers are coming to this site. even if all of them did, not everyone would rate the game.
i have played many mmorpgs and i've been coming to this site for awhile, but i have never rated a game.
and how many people do you think rated some games more than once or rated other games bad to skew the results?
