The air is crisp and the wind is blowing slightly from the northeast. There he stands atop a wooden crate, a magnificent figure in chainlink mail; this stalwart soldier sheds a single tear as he bellows out his rallying cry. It's Mark Jacobs and he understands pride.
Easily one of my favorite principals so far.
My name is Plastic-Metal and my name is an oxymoron.
every thing said is right its what made me love DAoC is the pride we took in every thing that was there
upsettingly for me the last pride will put a scupper on my thoughts for a 1 world 1 game 1 population idea shame i thought it would work better but he is right i still love my old surver and the people i played with :-(
I think it will be difficult to recapture server pride as it existed in early DAOC. A part of why players had pride in their server was simply that abandoning your server to reroll somewhere else was a painful grind to level 50. But there won't be a PvE barrier to overcome to reroll in CU. Unless they are going to only allow one server per account with no transfers (bad idea), it will be easier to reroll in CU than in almost any MMO.
DAOC Percival was the best DAOC server, with Midgard being the best REALM on the best server.
Just saying.
And Mark...this is EXACTLY what we need in a game, that we haven't had since DAOC. Realm pride. God, I hope you can set up this game to get it back again for us old folks.

More meaningless drivel from developers that feel the need to create a sense of pride for the players.
The more a developer tries to create a sense of pride the more fake it feels to everyone that doesnt need their hand held with spoon fed content...Guess thats why his closed off realm/faction lands idea never took off even by other developers known for making limited games, that limitation was too restricting even for them.
The box is small, isnt it time to think out of it? You have had 12 YEARS to try to think up a new way to make a game...

Wolvan, my fellow Percival Stealther... please understand I hold you in the highest regard (at least, as high as any filthy Norseman can go... which is a damsite higher than the scum bound Britons) but Hibernia was clearly the Realm by which other Realms are measured. The sun shone warmer on the Cliffs of Moher, the stars twinkled brighter in the Valley of Bri Lieth, the breeze smelled sweeter in cobbled streets of Tir na Nog. That's not opinion, that's just science!

I don't think I will EVER be able to capture the feeling I got when playing my first DAoC character. I rolled a Troll Thane at release on Palomides. Granted, he never made it to 50 until years later because Thanes kinda sucked at release. But that character created a feeling of realm pride for Midgard that I was never able to shake no matter how many times I tried to play a Minstrel (My favorite class design ever), Friar, Vampiir, Valewalker etc.

My dearest Emercy,
Come now. The Frolic never inspired fear like the Horde. The zerg...well we will just continue to ignore them. Really now...which one cause more people to shite their pants? A rolling wall of keens coming over the hill or a rolling wall of TROLLS coming over the hill? Troll > keen. Therefore, Mid > hib.

Definitely the best FP you've put out and the most important. Without the pride there is no community. WIthout community I don't think this game, in whatever iteration it launches in, would succeed. Reading that FP though, I don't think I've smoked or drank anything in a long time that gave me the euphoric nostalia of that FP lol.
Regarding "Mega guilds" and things. What if in RVR, people in the higher tier guilds/super huge ones, gave more rewards for killing them/taking thier lands?
I mean think about it, just like in the middle ages, where you had Knights, it was more worth to take them then other soldiers, so why not make these big guilds act similar of a role, where they give more rewards for being killed or taking their land over then a smaller guild?
This would give people a reason to target bigger guilds and give the smaller guilds more rewards for taking them on.

I don't like it. You shouldn't be prioritizing targets according to the reward they give. You should be prioritizing targets stratigically in hopes of defending your Realm and vanquishing your enemies.
This could likely create a kill-steal-whine-a-rama.

I don't get the preference against "one or several super guilds". Is this a developer or player concern? The way I see it, a leader who is skilled enough to assemble an entire realm under the banner of his guild should be respected & praised. It's like empires of old. I don't thnk I like the idea of developers "encouraging against" such things. To me, that smacks of the process Blizzard used to drain the open world with their BG instances.
Please don't put guild FUNDAMENTALS as unlocks for leveling.
Contrary to what the theory was in WAR, guild pride does not revolve around what "level" the guild is.
You couldn't even design a fucking cloak until you unlocked it.
Of all of the guilds I've been in there are only a few things that made me proud of them.
1) The company we keep. I want individuals that play with the guild when they can, have some redeeming competency, and that don't embarrass the guild. For members to be considerate to other members, these are very basic, and if you have a bunch of guild members that don't fulfil these basic expectations, then it isn't really a guild to be proud of. And when I say have a redeeming competency this includes entertainment, diplomacy, and meta-gaming.
2) Making a difference. Being there often when you need to be. When the beacons are lit, stop fucking farming dragons.
Really thats it for the most part. I think this Guild/Realm/Server "pride" talk is being confused.
Pride is something that can be felt undeservingly. Lots of people showed "realm pride" by pridefully raiding dungeons and rooting for their team when the few were out taking relics. Or when they finally joined in toward the end of a relic raid after all the work was already done. yay! go team!
The same thing can be said of "guild pride". People feeling proud to be a part of a great guild, and doing absolutely nothing to contribute.
Hell I'm proud to be an american but I've never done anything for her other than pay my taxes and vote against people that keep trying to fuck it up.
What I'm getting at is the Guild Leveling concept. GUILDS ARE NOT GREAT. INDIVIDUALS ARE GREAT. A level 100 guild can be a decrepit, useless piece of shit that stays at the top of the leaderboards for years because GREAT PLAYERS used to be in them. But the accomplishments of the greats are TIED TO A GUILD.
I guess what I'm getting at, is if there are 20 players in a 100 player guild that are carrying everyone else, get bitter, leave and start their own guild (one WORTHY of pride), their accomplishments should leave with them. City State is pretty new, but how many years of experience does City State have? Tons right? That doesn't happen with guilds in these new MMOs.
You could get the top 100 players in the realm to come together and form a new guild and they start off as a startup with a bunch of fresh college grads.
Maybe I sound like a lunatic right now but I've seen so much talk of "pride" from people that have nothing to be proud of that I get a little irate when people use the term "realm pride". Then when a couple of the power guilds leave the server or change sides they get all "bawww! realm pride is dead". Its adorable and enraging at the same time.
